  • Chitin extracted from brown shrimp peels can be used as renewable N fertilizer and as a microbial stimulant in soilless cultivation of lettuce, strawberry and tomato.

I am a fisherman, I use Langoustine shells in my tomato plants ,, the plants i added the ground shells are bigger , darker thicker leaves , thicker stems ,, all plants had wormcast and bonemeal too , but I will def use the dried shells again next year in all my plants

@@ppac300 I mixed it with my potting mix , the plants were noticeably more vigorous and healthier, I read something about chitin and saw how expensive crab;lobster fertiliser is and thought I could dry my own , worked great , , an I also put seaweed and dried crushed shells in my compost for this season ,

    Arthropods also produce chitin

Science habitually extracts elements from nature so they can sell the pure element to industry for combining with other products for patenting. Anyone who lives near the sea knows that whole seaweed or sea creature can be used for growing crops. I ordered some fertilizer and compost from the Coast of Maine product line recently, and was excited to see that they use various shells from crustaceans, along with other sea products, and not extracts. There is more in the whole shell than can be derived from one or two extracts for plant growth. As in herbs, the whole herb works synergistically for balance in health. When only one aspect of that herb is used, the balance is lost.

This is not a positive for the shrimp, or other sea life used in such ways, is it?

And for preventing climate change. Yes! That’s sarcasm. Sounded good at the start!
