It's crazy to me they're calling the Mississauga line the Hazel McCallion. Naming a public transit line after the mother of all suburban sprawl and car centric culture is wild.
The downside to the Hazel McCallion transit line is that it's basically a tram running at street level so it will be slower and subject to delays. It should have been a fully grade separated light metro system.
I was in college when they first talked about transit city. If they had actually delivered on half their promises, finch, Eglinton and Sheppard would have been up and running already.
If it takes decades to build a transit line I would prefer the continue to formulate transit ideas and implement them so future generations don't suffer the underinvestment we have. Everything under construction now is for future generations, by the time they are built i might not have a reason to leave my house. Until we have world class high speed rail nationwide we out transit corridor under developed. I know our leaders are proud but I want them to study a country like China and understand how they expanded their rail networks and try to replicate some of that success.
With FORD closing the Ontario Science Center maybe the Ontario Line needs to be rethought because now that’s a useless transit stop. ( the science center )
If memory serves that was 'only' a 900 million project, correct me if I'm wrong, while important to waterloo and kitchener not a mega project if you will.
@@OurTorontoThe price has ballooned to like 3-4B, and has since been put on hold. For the time being, it seems the region is focusing on building the Cambridge Dinky.
Exactly, Line 2/4 extensions soon to open are poorly designed and for many will increase travel times. The airport link is particularly bad, possibly extending travel times to downtown by 20 minutes. The western extension ends in the middle of the Greenbelt, a useless terminus with extension to Kanata highly unlikely in our lifetime. Phase 1 of this project, which opened in 2019 has lost around 40% of the previous ridership. A public transit disaster.
@@lovehandr And they used to joke about TTC - ( Take The Car ). I have fond memories of OC Transpo in the '70's and into the '80's. Routes went where people needed to go, and for the most part, they actually made sense. Since I got a license in '84, no reason for me to ride the bus there anymore, and looking (back) at things from time to time (meaning the system map and schedule) over the years, I am so glad I do not have to rely on today's OC Transpo. It has turned into a very bad joke. My personal opinion on OC T taking on rail and expanding their (so-called) service, they should never have taken on some of the clowns who have come and gone, and done the damage they did along the way. They should have started out with a shovel and a trip to the graveyard if they wanted to get anyone who knows anything about building and running rail (and bus ) service for beyond the mid 1980's. Cuz the people we've been paying thus far don't know diddly.
Of course Niagara is left out, but what else is new? Doesn't help that the line to here is falling apart, and CN (or whatever freight company) owns it, so we get SFA again... (Btw, SFA = Sweet F***-All!!)
Power failure and nothing moves. Where will all the electricity be coming from??? What jobs???? Pure gaslighting. The price for electricity will sky rocket. It took almost 2 hour to go from Long Branch to Yonge St on the new streetcar. What a freaking joke.
huge waste projects putting transit where there already was transit before and replacing businesses with travel lines to nowhere... incredible waste in era of ride share options

That's a good point and an irony I didn't see.
@@OurTorontothe line was something she pushed for a lot, that’s why. Will admit though a transit line named after a person is odd
@@TheMainGuyYT no odder than naming a freeway after a person (Queen Elizabeth Way, Macdonald-Cartier Freeway).

Even something like the Hazel line would’ve been nice but the full name is a bit weird yeah

Its GO Transit (same as word "go" ). It is not "G. O. Transit" that your robo-voice makes it sound like "geo" .
I enjoyed this video, I can’t wait to ride these projects when I retire in 45 years, well at least the ones in the gta 😅

China isn't that great of a model. Canada doesn't have access to what is effectively an infinite pool of slave labour.
I mean the ontario line won't travel to the science centre, because the science centre has been closed permanently... so... there's that...
But they have not decided to change the name of the station yet.
They said they are considering changing the name. Also line 5 will stop at the science centre
"Science Centre" will end up being the developer's marketing name for the condo project that will replace it.
@@OurToronto I heard a rename to Don Mills, with Line 4 Don Mills being renamed to Fairview?
@grahamcampbell7424 I have not heard of anything like that.
The Line 1 Extension should probably have been included
Yeah that one hasn't been mentioned for a while. I should look into whether there is any news about it.

Makes it six-eight more subway lines, then we will talk.
Hamilton's LRT hasn't started construction yet.
Hamilton lrt still doesn’t have any construction started along the route, so it won’t be done until 2030+
although interesting what was missing is that the majority are late and significantly over budget....not quite a success story .
At this point that all goes without saying.
The most optimistic estimate right now for BEGINNING construction in earnest on the Hamilton LRT is 2028

I love the American pronunciation of 'route' for a Canadian video. Obviously, this is automatic text to voice narration.

The whole rail project with OC Transpo in Ottawa is a complete mess, and a boondoggle.
