Thanks for the recap at the end. If I understand this correctly, his license has not been revoked or suspended. If that's not part of the law, then I hope someone there will get started on this at the State level to make some mandatory revocation (or suspension), like five years for the first offense, ten for the second, twenty for the third. Then apply the same rule to all the other crazy driving stuff, like phony plates and other phony documents. (I live and work overseas, so, sorry I can't take care of this, but if I were back home, then I would. It's doable--though it might take some time!)

This was in Michigan so I can confidently say that his license is revoked. Two DUIs in seven years or three in a lifetime causes a permanent revocation of a driver license in Michigan and since the law requires someone to prove that he will never drink alcohol or use intoxicating drugs ever again (which is impossible) very few get their licenses back after this. There is a sobriety court exception where a participant can get a restricted driver license with an interlock requirement for life (IIRC this very judge has three cases being appealed by the Secretary of State after he attempted to override them and order that they issue an unrestricted license to two people with a permanent revocation and one with a sobriety court interlock license, as far as I know they have not followed the judge's order arguing lack of legal authority and haven't issued the licenses).

@@mharris5047 Thanks for this info. Clearly it's not working, so the law needs to be stricter, on the one hand. On the other, States that don't have even this, need something like it--but stricter.

I always wonder how many times he has driven whilst drunk and didn't get caught.

Unfortunately the recidivism rates for a dui are around 35%

Only a DWI? What insurance company was covering him? Was his license not suspended?

Penalties are not severe enough for DUI, DWI, etc. Drunk driving is one of the most repeated offenses there are! First offense should be 12 months, second offense should be 24 months, third offense should be 36 months, and so on 🤬

    • @Doggeatdoggcourt

Penalties should definitely be stiffer to prevent people from becoming repeat offenders

In a rational, civilized country, this defendant would be recognized as an alcoholic and his driving license would be suspended for life. It is not impossible, as most Americans believe, to live life comfortably without an automobile.

It gets too much when you add all the extra expectations that go along with jail time. Really, people like this guy should be banned from driving for life, and Then given a sweet 25 year prison sentence. I have zero pity for people who choose to get behind the wheel on purpose after a booze session.

Your subtitling is frankly atrocious. I'm not a native speaker, and even I can tell large parts of it are just plain wrong.

Agreed. AI is really tone deaf. It can't discriminate a whole lot of English. People say that this dimwit pseudo intelligence is poised to take over society in a few years. Imagine the things it's going to decide to do based on its incompetent "large" language model that has trouble with about 100 sounds in English (single letters and their combinations). On another channel, I saw "rebuke" for "revoke." Maybe it's just a question of vocabulary, which suggests it's only as smart as a 6th grader. Now, if this is not AI, but the host who is in charge of the subtitles, he should find a friend who can edit for him.
