"Soul bodied voice" is exactly right. Vocalist Asami danced ballet, then sang R&B/Soul before joining LOVEBITES, her first Metal experience in life. Now writes most lyrics and some music, including THRASH! Each member has their own unique story and path to this result, all about 30 years of age.
Though I also enjoy the breaks & transitions, unison play etc. LOVEBITES includes individual guitar solos followed by a harmony duet in all but a few songs. Drummer Haruna keeps the precision dbl-kicks going like this for full hour&45min shows with last song as demanding as this one.
All are petite with Haruna at 4'9" and Miyako tallest at 5'2".
I am thoroughly enjoying your reaction.
You are gonna LOVE LOVEBITES, song after song after song...
Your recognition of Miyako, not just holding, but stretching up for a key change leading into Midori's solo is the first time I have heard a reactor mention it. Congratulations!

Great reaction and thanks for continuing to explore new bands and there are a lot of Japanese all female bands that are shaking up the music scene. The one thing that stands out is the absolute mastery of their instruments. If you rate the bands based on a ratio of height to talent, Japanese females bands rule the world. The drummer is 4'9" and she plays like this for 2 hours. The tallest is around 5'2". And, they play in heels! I'd like to see any male band be this good while wearing 4 inch heels for 2 hour :)

One of the best reactions I've seen--you caught a lot of stuff most reactors miss. Subscribing! So, some background, starting with the look (we can do better than Celine Dion, just sayin'): Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids.
They were formed from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief metalhead and soul of the band) recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuke”); they went and found the two guitarists, Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands, and the whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time. Miho and Miyako compose most of their music, in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer, but Midori has also been getting into the act. Asami writes a lot of the lyrics.
They have only been around for just shy of 5 years. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Slayer etc. and they pretty much aced it all. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and it seems clear they’re taking it to another level.
This is one of their most common "starter" songs for reactors, and rightly so--you get a good sense of the band. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash, and almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel. Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. (As another reactor said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band.") Miyako is also a concert-level classical pianist, and some of their songs feature her on the piano.
Of course, you gave proper appreciation to the back line. Miho and Haruna are amazingly precise while producing innovative riffs and a huge sound.
If you want to see what they do with the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” th-cam.com/video/n1BiurShqBM/w-d-xo.html Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. Other songs to check out are "Edge of the World", "We the United", "Rising", and their MVs "When Destinies Align", "Glory to the World" and "Winds of Transylvania". Everything they've posted is mind-blowing.
You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

Great reaction! Lovebites are top tier musicians! And now you have seen why.
Haruna is a powerhouse on the drums! that double bass thunder is relentless! She plays Pearl drums, Sabian cymbals and Vic Firth 5A Nylon tip sticks! She's the best! 😀
Their sound goes from power metal, thrash metal, heavy rock and some ballads too! Their influences are bands like Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween.
The guitarists Miyako (dark hair, Dean guitar) and Midori (blonde hair, ESP guitar) are some of the best i have ever seen, they are crazy good!
Miyako is the main composer for the band she plays piano as well, piano is actually her main instrument starting at age 3, guitar at age 18.
Check out "Swan Song (with the piano Etude intro)", "Edge of the World", Thunder Vengeance, We the United, all Live in 2020 from the same show.
Thank you, really nice reaction! 👍
Band Maid is another amazing band, glad you are discovering them too! (im completely addicted to both these bands, please send help).

Hey, hear the bell ringing. I really love your technical analyze. You'll receive tons of recommendations. Choose any of them, they are all good and they have no fillers. One advise, in the case of Swan Song, you've got to play it together with the preceding track Chopin Revolutionary Etude. Those two pieces are one set, you'll know why when you watch the clip.
About that crazy double kick, you'll see how tough she is at the end of this almost two hour show. The last two songs are Edge of the World and We the United, it's a phenomenal grand finare.
Welcome to the Wolfpack. Your journey will be a fantastic and great Odyssey. Enjoy !

    LOVEBITES - Holy War lyrics:
Look at those black clouds, it’s going to rain blood
People live in fear, covered in mud
Singing oh Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
There is a thousand, a thousand of evils
Hush, do not wake up Satan’s devils
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and all for one forevermore
Kingdom of Heaven, never shall we fall
    Reincarnation, wait for your call
Singing oh, Gloria to change the prophecy
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for sisters
    Morning star and dying moon
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Mighty soul, let there be hope
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
Stand up in the name of the God of heavy metal
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
    Facing the fate, holy war
Singing Hallelujah to save our majesty
    We are the metal warriors
    Fighting the darkness for brothers
    Shining blade and burning heart
Into the Gates of Hell we march
Immortal soul, let there be light
    Into the Eye of Heaven
    Eagles at a holy war
    Fly higher than the sun
We are one for all and for one forevermore
What do we live for? What do we fight for, tonight?
But the world is beautiful, worth fighting for
Only have one thing on our mind
    Facing the fate, holy war

Such a great band, I'd suggest looking up their performance of "Swan Song" from the same DVD for next track to check out.
They toured with Dragonforce back in 2019 in the UK and many shenanigans were had, afterwards maybe look up them jamming the Farm Simulator theme with Dragonforce with Sam Totman on banjo and everyone else ripping up solos over it.
If you want suggestions for any other bands, I've got two related suggestions for bands that I feel need a lot more attention from the overseas audience:
Gacharic Spin - this is a highly eclectic rock band that's noted for their excellent song-writing, multiple singers, technicality, insanely energetic stage shows, and a highly open approach to genres. Their drummer/singer switched out drums for guitar a couple of years ago so they hired a new drummer, but for some tracks they do a dual drum set-up nowadays. As a musician you might find this clip with them doing a dual-drum arrangement of their track TAMASHII interesting: th-cam.com/video/Jt7-GGRa3nc/w-d-xo.html The drummers are Hana Sano (black t-shirt) and Yuri (in white).
DOLL$BOXX - this is a collaboration between noted power metal singer Fuyuki Tenge (normally just called Fuki) and Gacharic Spin where they go a lot more metal focused but still with the unique Gacharic Spin song-writing style. If you think you could work with a slightly longer clip (~13 minutes) I'd highly recommend this clip of them performing 3 up-tempo tracks with a ridiculous level of precision and energy: th-cam.com/video/EOLZ2gLGwL4/w-d-xo.html If you're interested but don't want to do three tracks in one video the timestamps are: Shout Down (0:00), KARAKURI TOWN (4:14), Sekai wa Kitto Ai wo Shitterunda (8:24). The drummer is Hana Sano.
tl;dr: Lovebites are awesome, check out the bands Gacharic Spin & DOLL$BOXX

    • @timgove5337

Exactly. Multi instrumentalist drummer/singer(4distinct voices)/masterarranger/guitarist (bassist kickboxing tapdancer pianist composer saxophonist lyricist musical directing bluehaired fakeglasses savant/genius) Hana Sano is missing from your life. Co founder of Gacharic Spin (meaning “our take on clattering noises”) and countless spin-offs including the most popular Doll$Boxx, I came here with the standard introduction video in hand, Doll$Boxx’s Take My Chance. BabyMetal and their trademarked Kawaii(cute) Metal already existed, but this video was curiously timed, being popular about 6months before BandMaid and their trademarked Gap (between appearance and sound) were conceived. Hold onto your jewels ;) th-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/w-d-xo.html

hello from germany, wave. glad you found and like them. and thank you for your expert reaction/analysis to my favourite band. how enjoyable! subscribed! they exist since 2016, singer asami came from R&B and has never heard of metal before. guitarist miyako (dean) is also a classical pianoplayer on top pro level. and a guitarnerd too, she has changed PUs and modified electronics of her guitars to get the sound she wants. lovebites have made four albums and four EPs until now, and there is not one single bad song or filler. you can choose any song from this 110 min gig at diverscity 2020 in tokyo. maybe thats more interesting for you as a musician than OVs. maybe next the last song "we the united", just to admire how fresh they still look after this powerride. like top athletes. other recommendations: "break the wall", "dancing with the devil", "edge of the world", "swan song (with chopin prelude", "M.D.O.", "raise some hell", "the hammer of wrath", "thunder vengeance".

The band was founded by Miho (bass) and Haruna (4'9" drummer) after their previous band Destrose disbanded. Miho is smaller than you. She and Miyako the dark haired guitarist are the tallest girls in the band at about 5'2". Miyako does play Dean guitars except for a Les Paul she brings out sometimes. Midori the other guitarist and Miho play ESPs. You are just scratching the surface of Japanese rock bands which seem to lean to all female for the most part. Mary's Blood "Marionette" (recommend the official video to get the best of Saki's shredding guitar play), Nemophila "Oiran" or "Dissension," Doll$Boxx "Take My Chance," would be some good next steps down this rabbit hole.

Congratulations. Seriously. I’m a diehard lovebites fan and try to watch all new Lovebites reactions every day if I can. I especially love it if the reaction is by someone who is listening to the band for the first time (as opposed to checking out new songs by them). I love the shock factor. Now I don’t play a musical instrument. I wish I could, but it’s just not a possibility for me. I do however have a very good musical ear and a great attention to detail. The very first time I heard Lovebites they instantly clicked with me because I know good writing, good arrangements and most importantly fantastic technique when I hear it. That may sound arrogant but there are many people who would listen to Holy War and think “well that’s catchy but….” and wouldn’t pick up on any of the stuff you pointed out in this video. I did, but without really understanding why. I just knew I was listening to a special talent.
So I say congratulations because this is one of THE best first time reactions to Lovebites that I’ve seen. You not only explain the how but the why… and you understand Asami’s vocal talent…(you’d be AMAZED how many modern ears are completely baffled why she should be singing in this band… as if Iron Maiden were just a figment of my generation’s imagination).
I loved this reaction and have subscribed because I want to see you salivate over just how good this band is. As a musician I think you’ll benefit from watching the live stuff far more than the music videos but that’s just a hunch. Anything recommended here by fellow Lovebites fans (The Wolf Pack… I’ll leave others to explain that one) will not disappoint. If it’s live there is footage available from two shows at Zepp Diver City Tokyo… 2019 and 2020 to keep you busy for a good few weeks. Then I suggest you also check out anything from the Awake Again from Abyss Studio Live set for a completely different but equally astonishing live experience. You’re in for a treat I promise you.

I believe it was called 'transition', the thing you described before that oprah's slide.. as you mentioned you would love it more than a big guitar solo, you'll get both of them from lovebites.. I second any 'edge of the world' recommendation from the comments before me, IMHO, it was their full portfolio.. loved your tiny detailed break downs, and quite enjoyable too..

Wow what a great reaction. You pointed out and mentioned many things in this song that other reactors either missed or ignored. That was really cool. Lovebites is a super band, with every member a top notch musician of their chosen instrument, or voice. Miyako, the brunette guitarist, also shreds the piano in some of their songs. Somehow, what you had to say about the band, your observations, made the pauses less annoying than many reactors, and backing up a bit really helps offset so nothing is missed. LOVEBITES has many awesome transitions, breaks and breakdowns that are often obscured by reactors any your method avoided that even though many pauses. "Mom" says no 'subbing' on first 'reaction' so I'll have to await your next.

But, additionally, Yoyoka is a visiting professor at International University. IU did an interview with Yoyoka, it's a bit long, 18:19, and it's absolutely unmissable for Yoyoka fans. She speaks from how she approached the drums to various random subjects.

The members of Lovebites make it seem so effortless because they are all such awesomely talented musicians. At the same time as looking like supermodels on the catwalk, Lovebites' members (except Haruna the drummer) performed a full 90 minute plus gig, playing their instruments, moving around the stage, headbanging and changing the pedals on their effects boards while wearing four inch high heels and do not even break sweat. They are definitely the real deal.

Lovebites ... Welcome to Wolfapack. In my humble opinion, best band in this century. I know, I know, people will disagree, but fact is fact :D
Miho formed the band with Haruna, though Haruna was hesitant to do power metal, but Miho convinced her. Then they got Midori and Asami. Miyako was a backup guitarist even though she composed half of the songs on their first album. She officially joined them before the release of their Shadowmaker.
Miho - Bassist, leader, real metalhead, has hundreds of metal t-shirts and is one of the best bassist that exist. No picks. Provides some backing vocals. Plays also guitar, drums and keyboards. Composed a bunch of their songs. ESP bass.
Haruna - 4'11 energizer bunny. Best drummer. Plays also guitar, bass and piano.
Asami - Jazz, RnB and Soul singer initially. Has insane vocal range and control with excellent vibrato. Classically trained singer and pianist. Ballerina. Wrote most of the lyrics.
Midori - She good, like Yngwie Malmsteen good. Classically trained pianist. Provides some backing vocals. Resembles Gyaru girls from Japan, but the talented hot version. ESP guitars.
Miyako - Best darn guitarist right now. Has several Deans, custom made one and also designs guitars. Is a classically trained maestro pianist. Composes most of their songs. Provides backing vocals and she darn good at it. Plays also bass and drums and who knows what else. Has a Les Paul too. Plays like Gary Moore and Van Halen. Plays piano/keyboards in few songs - Swan Song and Epilogue Live DiverCity for example, their ballads. Plays simultaneously keyboards and guitar in Burden of Time.
Any song from their three albums, three EP's and especially their live DVD's - Daughters of Dawn and Five of a Kind are amazing to listen and watch.
Want any type of metal? Check. Ballads? Check. Mindful and soul touching lyrics? Check. Awesome Helloween - Eagle Fly Free rendition with bass tap solo? Check. Unison overhand tapping? Check - Signs of Deliverance. Which song? Any, ok ... ALL. Mhm, that good.
    Enjoy :)

Women who are in rock bands typically have the "tough guy" attitude yet Lovebite comes out with a girly-girl look (Are they dressed up for the prom?) especially when the lead singer Asami prances across the stage with very feminine hand gestures. Then they unleash a sound that puts most bands to shame. This is female power proudly on full display. What a contrast to other metal bands with their dark themes and black clothes.

    • @cepho8349
      @cepho8349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It's not exclusive to Lovebites. It's the same for the Japanese all-female metal band Aldious for example. Go check them out, they have been around for a while and are great.

    • @fedogma8407
      @fedogma8407 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cepho8349 What I want to know is why are there so many all female bands in Japan with extremely talented female musicians? Is it time to change to a diet of ramen and sushi?

    • @cepho8349
      @cepho8349 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@fedogma8407 Well, I think for various reasons. First of all Japan just has hundreds of bands in general so of course there would be many good ones. Japan has an incredibly mature music market and there is a lot of support for upcoming bands, but also fierce competition. There are venues to play etc. Music education is also really high quality in Japan. Students are encouraged to master an instrument, there are music clubs at schools and many bands get even founded out of high school. Scandal (yet again all-female) is a good example.
There also doesn't really seem to be as much of a stigma for women to play heavier/more technical music. It's just not a big deal in Japan to see women in rock/metal. There are tons of all-female rock/metal bands in Japan going back to Show-Ya in the 80s.
And lastly gaining musical skills simply requires a lot of practice and dedication. I don't want to resort too much to stereotypes, but Japanese people are often really hardworking and ambitious. So they are willing to pour their everything into music.
And check out Aldious in case you haven't already. They tend to dress even more girly than Lovebites at times.

    • @fedogma8407
      @fedogma8407 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cepho8349 This is a question where many stereotypes come into play. My hometown is Seattle which is where Nancy and Ann Wilson from Heart grew up. They definitely had a huge influence and respect in the rock community but all girl bands in the West are rare. There is a certain irony of the Western stereotype that Asian women are subservient to men yet the Japanese music scene has certainly broken that mold with women that aren't just good because they are women, but who are comparable to the rock gods of past. I should know since I was a young teenage male who grew up with the Who, Cream, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Santana etc.
I currently live in Asia and yes, there are aspects of that stereotype of Asian women that are true but every country over here is different. I think what happened in Japan is a current center of music where musicians are innovative, collaborative and willing to break the mold to explore different ideas. This includes a rising group of very talented female musicians. You can compare this to the grunge scene in Seattle back in the 90's and the blues/rock music scene in England during the 60's. I just hope that these females bands get the international attention that they truly deserve.

      @WavePotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You’re absolutely right! I’ve said many times that their skill is far behind my capabilities, and I respect your preference! But I do think many people (especially those who aren’t musicians) don’t measure bands by their abilities as much as the way they make them feel and the ability to relate to the music, whether it’s lyrics, feel or audible storytelling. Yes LOVEBITES are absolutely elite musicians, but a BAND-MAID has a sound and persona I’ve never heard anywhere else.
