    If memory serves correct, I believe Popular Hot Rodding Magazine covered the build of this Merc in 1985. It utilizes lots of B&M components, including the blower and shifter.

    • @albertgaspar627
      @albertgaspar627 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was that the article where they also detailed the Stingray TV show corvette and some other Hollywood cars? I don't remember them mentioning B&M components, however, and the shifter I believe is a Hurst. that said, B&M and Hurst offer pretty much the same design in automatic transmission shifters.

    • @CarStarz42
      @CarStarz42  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, the shifter was definitely a Hurst as you can plainly see in the film and in the pics from the CVS auction when they were trying to sell it before they knew it was a stolen car; specifically the hero car at least. Maybe you should find the article first and then talk about it, could have been about one of the stunt cars perhaps?

    • @05gtdriver
      @05gtdriver ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @CarStarz42 I remember either Popular Hot Rodding or Hot Rod magazine did a quick write-up on the build of the movie car. I remember a small block chevy with B&M blower on top. Foggy memory and a search has not yielded anything article wise from either magazine mentioned. 🙄🫣😣

    • @mickangio16
      @mickangio16 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a chrome bumper '68 GTO in the 1970s. Yes, they were rare and if I remember correctly the car had to be ordered that way and there was a $200 credit. I don't know how accurate this is but I heard many years ago that the chrome bumper weighed 100 lbs less than the Rubber bumper/hideaway headlight combination. Whoever ordered my GTO when new clearly wanted a fast car as it had 3.73 gears, Turbo 400, hoodmount tach, and console shifter that you pushed to the side and it stopped at the next gear (NOT the His & Hers). I later had a '78 Z-28 Camaro with that same automatic shifter.

    For those curious about how to "chop" the roof for that letterbox look the window frame pillars are cut through middle. A small section is then cut out each cut end to shorten the frame pillars.Then the roof above front seats is cut straight across. Strip of sheet metal is then soldered in as a spacer to extend length of roof above front seats. The spacer lines up the cut ends of window pillars when top is reattached and soldered. The term "lead sled" is all the soldering added extra weight to hotrod.

    Somewhere I have a magazine from the 90s I believe it is that did an article on the Cobra Merc.. 3 of the 4 cars were actually 4 doors converted to two doors on account of the available and pricing on the two door coupes at the time.

    I love your videos and I have subbed. Not trying to start anything but I think your wrong about how many mercs were destroyed. The stunt driver was Corey Eubanks I was hanging with him at a dukes of hazzard show. I asked him how many mercs were wrecked he said 7. Anyhow your channel is really great thanks for your work.

    • @CarStarz42
      @CarStarz42  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, glad you are enjoying them. I haven't found any supporting information about that many Mercs used though, as per Eddie Paul anyways, there were 4 total built. Unless they had like more than one group building them perhaps, but I haven't seen anything about that officially anyways. Thanks again

      It could be they built the extra cars from a different builder just to wreck. The jump from the 2nd story parking garage, Corey told me that car had a full cage in it and it went to the crusher. He had pictures at his booth showing the after effects. They had multiple car builder's on Dukes, warner brothers was farming out other builders due to lack of chargers. That and they were wrecking them faster than they could build them. The stories Corey told me blew my mind about that! Thanks for your reply!

    In some alternate universe, there's a movie where Stallone has his '50 Merc stolen by an evil organization named CV Inc. . He then goes on a rampage to find clues, however ,in the process, his helpless girlfriend gets captured and his pet turtle is killed by CV. Stallone must then infiltrate the CV headquarters using a monster truck, kill all the henchmen, defeat the boss in hand to hand combat, rescue the girl, find the '50 Merc and escape CV Inc.'s headquarters before it explodes!
