I've tried most of the premium headsets on the market and haven't been fully satisfied with any of them. The Audeze Maxwell's did get the closest. The audio is great - whether I'm listening to music or need to hear footsteps, these do the job. 80 hour battery life and, for me at least, a great fit made these an easy pair of headphones to fall in love with. However, like many others - see Reddit - the right earcup on my Audeze's are completely silent. I can get the audio back on by putting the audio on 100% but when dipping it back to my usual 15-20% the audio kicks out again - likely an issue with the planar foil. I have no doubt Audeze will replace or fix these like they have for others with the issue but it's concerning enough I've cancelled my order of a second pair.

I just got the maxwells today and man am I impressed. The directional sound is amazing for gaming and the clarity of audio is insane. Chat and game are both clear even when a lot is going on. Music, game and discord all sounds crystal clear and are audible without any muddy blending. I changed the EQ to be a bit more bassy because the stock EQ wasn't as clear sounding to me, could be that I'm so used to bass since I've used the astro a10s for about 5 years. Another thing I notices is the bass isn't overpowering and it has a bit of punchiness to it and no distortion. It really sounds amazing because your mids and highs don't get muddy from the bass. The microphone isn't as bad as I've heard it sound on some of thr videos I've seen. It's marginally worse than my astro a10s but not so bad that it ruins peoples ears. Honestly the best pick up ever. I bought the set brand new from ebay with the 1 year manufacturer warranty for $250. A great pick up for $300 but i got a good steal for brand new. If you can get a pair of these I highly recommend forking out the extra money for this especially if you're looking to go wireless.
Glad to hear you’re loving your choice! May I ask where you bought them from and how long they took to ship? I just ordered my own pair yesterday and I can’t seem to find any estimated delivery date anywhere.

I've watched a few videos on the channel here over the past few days and along with researching a bit decided to pick up the Maxwells, got to the checkout button before I looked on Reddit to check if there's any discount codes and noticed the threads about the planar magnetic drivers wrinkling and outright breaking over time through normal use (Literally just putting them on and taking them off) due to the closed back design and air pressure. Safe to assume I didn't press the big checkout button after that and honestly while I believe you try not to be biased or paid by companies, it's a little concerning as a new viewer that none of these videos have mentioned that even as a sidenote nor have I seen replies to the comments mentioning this Edit - Forgot to mention that although it's possible for this to happen on all planar magnetic driver closed back headphones to some extent, it seems to be much more prevalent in the Maxwells. The customer service from Audeze is reportedly quite poor which they themselves have admitted and it's specifically stated that this issue is not covered under warranty. All in all, while they may sound great, this is a glaring issue that more people need to be aware of before purchasing headphones at that price point

I bought wicked cushions, I had to remove them, the odor and increased clamping force, I tried them on the maxwell for a couple weeks. No biggie, the stock ones are wonderful
@@barneyismyhero1without watching the video again, I feel like I remember some nuance you're leaving out. Didn't he say one of the factors in picking that was that it offered a better value? I could be misremembering

Ive got the maxwells as well i tuned them with a custom EQ and these thing do pack a huge punch if tuned correctly it has so much bass and deep bass as well its insane and that well maintaining crisp highs these sound even better then my nova pro wired with gamedac and it also has more bass then the nova pro.
I’m seeing MANY posts and reports of the film of the drivers starting to crinkle from pressure inside the cups and ruining the sound of the headphones. Was going to order one but I decided to hold off since it seems like the problem is coming up more and more.
I have all the new premium wireless gaming headsets and to me, the maxwells are amazing. The bass is so good it’s s honestly insane..the Penrose are still a little bit better to me tho, because they seem to maintain clarity better with all that bass . My stealth pros are great, but the lack of a dedicated button for game to chat mix is pretty annoying that and I have to have it at max volume which is ear fatiguing ..an seem relatively bass lite when compared to my Penrose , maxwells or A40’s or my novas . The Nova pro wireless as crazy as this sounds…does all of this. And I constantly go back to them. The features, the base station, Bluetooth, game to chat mixing, the sound, all of it.. is the bass like the Penrose or maxwell? No, but the bass is still really good. And I use the same tune for all of them yet I keep coming back the the novas. Idk what it is lol but I love them. I love all of them, but yea the novas are definitely my go to .
Do the Maxwells have a nice bass kick? Just ordered these and will be comparing them to the wired Razer Blackshark I own. Havent tried a wireless headphone in decades. They used to be garbage.
@@BlazingsNL Nice. Looking forward to trying them out. I mostly use the Marantz AV receiever with a full atmos set up, so I was trying to see how close I can mimic that with headphones. I live in a condo, so at night I switch over to headphones. Alot of times I wait to play newer games during the day, but would be cool to even it out a little more.
@BlazingsNL First day and it sounds awesome. The bass is a tighter punch rather than distortion heavy, vibration intensive. The detail of the sound is what is really impressive. Id describe it as textured sound where as the razers have a flatter sound. They still sound pretty good but this felt like a big upgrade. Probably wont use the razers again. They could go a little louder but sound great.
@@theconsolekiller7113 Nice man! I got mine last Saturday after waiting 13(!) weeks for delivery. This is such a huge upgrade from my Astro A50's, the sound is awesome. I can't decide between Audeze and Immersive preset haha. For games immersive seems better, but with music it really depends. I still have Sennheiser HD598 for comfortable open back listening, but loving the Maxwells so far. The wicked cusion pads came in today and that made it even better. My ears were touching the hard plastic of the driver protection with the stock pads. The audio detail is indeed very good! I'm hearing a few details in songs I never heard before. Do you ever listen on max volume on your headset? I have my Maxwells at 30% volume and it's fine. Can't imagine 100% hahah

As Techne told me one time. I was looking at the GX's. He said "get the lcd-2 open backs instead." I did and dude they never leave my desk, though lately I'm using my studio monitors way more.
Both me and a friend returned our Maxwells. Neither the headband nor the earpads were comfortable. Tried the WC earpads and they just put even more clamping force into play. Both of us experienced Bluetooth issues with skipping and crackling. But listening to some loud music with these is quite amazing. But for €400 (where I live) they're definitely not worth it imo. My HyperX from 2016 are still more comfy and still holding up. My PC38X felt like putting a cloud on my head after the Maxwell and I didn't notice that much difference in sound quality (I'm not an audiophile, so take that with a grain of salt). All in all I was very disappointed in such an expensive headset.
the bluetooth cracking is due to an update that causes crackling when using custom EQ on ldac if i not wrong. before the update it was working fine. if u updated it, then that will happen but audeze did mention in their notes that the update will cause that.
I agree with you they weight a ton and the distribution is not great. WC helped me for compfort but gave me a Headache somehow. Will send mine back as soon as posible. Get another pair of something else.

My predeccessor was the Virtuoso and i think SOund quality isnt better but good enough for the price... hopefully sound on the cloud alpha will be better then the Virtuoso... The Maxwell started to get defects on the inner foil, without my fault... it just happend from nowhere... maybe because of loud music but that shouldnt be the problem normally
@@Hema115 it has way more bass then the virtuoso i can say... for music it sounds pretty great... the battery was also pretty good. the mic was pretty bad no joke... people needed often to ask me twice about things i have said.... overall it was pretty good but i head some issues with it i couldnt overcome... for example i had sometime some crackling sound (it was quiet but annoying)... so i switched to the Blackshark v2 pro (2023) edition of razer and tbh. i am pretty satisfied for the price of 170 Euros... but if you have no problem with 20h battery life i still would recommend the virtuoso... it has lower bass than the blackshark... its good for gaming worse for music... but i prefer the blackshark because i am more into music
@Mikoto_Suoh Unfortunate I don't have the Blackshark V2 Pro 2023 where I live. Thank you for this comment, and I'm really grateful for your input. I'll keep looking!

Reddit has been blowing up over damage to the foil on the drivers beening damage/ rinkles causing cracking sound from air pressure pushing against the foil, I have rinkles no crackling yet , what about yours have you checked and no mention of it
Mine at the moment work fine but the foil on the left ear is showing a lot of wrinkles which will eventually probably cause crackling in sound , the closed back is the problem, air gets trapped in the earmuffs and can cause pressure on the foil over the driver damaging them
@@michaelmitchell1900 I wish more of these reviewers would do an actual retrospective to show how these headsets hold up after a while. This crackling issue is super concerning. I'm really careful with my headsets and the crackling issue happened to me 2 weeks in. Fortunately was able to return them after the left earcup stopped producing sound entirely. I realize a lot of these reviewers can switch up their headsets often, but for most of us, I feel like we main a headset or 2 (if we're lucky), and that's it, so we see more wear and tear, and that's such a bummer for a $300 product. Would love to see someone like @thetechne or @gadgetrytech cover this sort of thing and at least explain why and how likely this happens.
I'm guessing your game chat issue was because your chat was ingame chat rather than xbox party chat? Could that be the case? Coz if so, the issue you had was probably because the chat was coming through the game rather than the xbox chat which is what the headset is probably looking for. If so, try the party chat and see if you still have the same problem.
Sup Techne! Another great vid bud...THANKS! Rest that leg homie! I have the Nova pros both wired and wireless. I just got these Maxwells and the sound is leaps and bounds above both my MUCH beloved steel series. I will say tho the ONLY downside to the Audeze is the bluetooth function. It's not simultaneous, meaning you can't hear BT audio and audio from the dongle at the same time. I like to hear my phone notifications while gaming or a call. The audezer you can still do this...but it cuts off the game audio for about 2 seconds when a notification is picked up through audio, then it goes back to your game. Why Audeze went this route is a cost saving measure or a lack of feature since they use BT 5.0 (pretty sure it's 5.0 lol) where steel series does not. The weight is there too for sure but it doesn't really bother me...yet, longer gaming sessions have not been done yet. The sound quality of these again tho is just pure and amazing! Very happy. But as a whole...with all features in play, the steel series Nova pros are a more well rounded head set...but if you go that route and that route only...you're leaving ALOT of sound quality on the table. If music is important to you along with gaming. The Maxwell's are no doubt your best choice in my opinion. Don't get me wrong tho...the sound from the WIRED nova pros is up there! But the 50mm dynamic drivers just can't display the lows in the way the maxwells 90mm planar magnetic drivers do. That's my review anyway... hope it will help someone make the choice that's best for them. If the bank account allows...do what I did, get'em both! Lol the only way to win all around I guess lol
@@Tadrax I've had zero issues. Things are outstanding. It's a toss up between BT features or pure sound. Nova pro's are a great multi tasking daily driver. But for just deep dive gaming.... Maxwell's all the way! The wicked cushions head strap and cushions on Maxwell and I can wear them for hours! The deep bass on them is unmatched by ANYTHING
@thetechne this was great. Thank you! Curious if you could share your personal experience with the longevity and QC of your Audeze gaming headsets. How often do you use your Penrose or Maxwell's? Have you ever had any issues? I bought a pair of Maxwell's and never got the full experience due to an immediate issue with the driver in the left cup. Customer service with Audeze was very bad, but I've been considering getting another pair because the sound is supposed to be so good. I would main these, but I keep reading and hearing about so many people who are having issues with "driver damage" after a few months in. Do you have advice about planar headsets? I just want something fun for PS5 that I don't have to worry about having issues with. Thanks and sorry for the long reply.
I've never personally found the weight to be an issue, I've had it for a few months now. But I also have a Steelcase Leap v2 so my neck/back aren't getting beat up
Maxwell have the best sound overall unbeatable ! COD suck in footsteps anyway but when you play other fps games as CS go the maxwell perform amazingly !
I disagree the maxwell are okay bit directional sound is blured and some frequencies get deowned when something else happens. My IEM’ do a way better job and display sound way further away even tho the soundstage is even smaller on them. For musik they are alright. And wireless is nice. But I don’t think they are worth it at all for a gaming headset. And neither for launging since they are really way to heavy. Would rather eq my arctis nova pro.
Had the headset from July, love the thing, last night the right channel just failed, quick google shows I'm not the only one, going to RMA and hopefully get a new set. 😢
On my Marantz SR6014 AV reciever there is a USB slot, can I hook the USB dongle into that and it will output whatever audio channel the reciever is set to? Or do I have to use the USB ports on my consoles and PC?
@@baileymoto So far the sound is surprisingly crisp as crisp as the Maxwell despite the driver difference. At least 30 percent lighter which makes a difference in comfort. I added the wicked cushions to my Maxwell which helped but these are still cozier. I'm still evaluating directional audio. Does the Audeze maxwell for Xbox work with PS5? same audio quailty and everything? Im debating on these or the stealth pros which i see is compatible with xbox and ps5
Okay so I got the wicked cushions for the arctis pro wireless and I notice that it hurts my neck with the wicked cushions on. Is that the feeling you get here?
Sadly I had to return my Maxwell. Even with wicked cushions, I was constantly either feeling(when audio was playing) or hearing(quiet in game) my heartbeat. Probably due to clamp on my big head and the weight. So I am now looking for something a bit more breathing and hopefully wireless for ps5

Soundwise yes, but these planars are way too fragile. Reddit Posts of broken planar drivers are creeping up due to air pressure. So I wouldn't recommend these. Its a pity because they do sound phenomenal

its the gun shot sounds that people like''' story games don't really have that kinda of sound people want to hear how punchy the drivers are in gaming headsets '''
the only thing holding me back from getting the Maxwell is that i heard the sound stage isn't very good on these. i also heard that directionality sucks.
The soundstage sucks. Giving mine back. No clue what the techne is thinking. Soundstage is cramped to the max and directional sound is abismal. For musik it is okay bit planar magnetic hf have a tendency to sound plasticy. Which this ones sadly do. Went back to my iem’s. Even less staging but so much more engaging sound and directional awareness is back .
Footsteps are not that bad... people make too much of a deal about this. Maxwell's are 100x better sounding than cheap "gaming" headsets that may boost more frequencies to hear footsteps, but they sound terrible. I would rather better tuning and quality of sound than just footsteps with garbage tuning and sound.
@@Dopamine666 idk man, a lot of people have mixed opinions on the Maxwells. soundstage and directionality seem to be talked about a lot in a negative light. with the release of the Stealth Pro’s, people have been mostly saying good things about them. ended up getting them abd the sound stage is a bit better than my Arctis Nova Pro wired. i can also easily pinpoint sound cues on any game.
Now audeze Maxwell xbox ver is working with ps5 but we never know for how long or is there chance that they change that and Xbox version will be only for Xbox after soft updates?
Koss ksc75 hands down just need a better build and a premium tuning best FPS and I’ve tried bang Olufsen a50 audeze Beyerdynamic Sennheiser meze grado etc etc etc
I mean everyone likes different things and thats fine, but bass is alot like sugar imo, where Its addictive af and if you get used to alot of it, nothing else seems to taste sweet anymore until you tone it back down and readjust. I have ordered the Maxwells so sadly I havent had a chance to hear them yet, but I do have a rather extensive collection of headphones, amps and dacs, including other Audeze products and several planars. While I do admit that Razer has gotten a bit better over the years, my first instinct is kinda that comparing Audeze headphones to a pair of Razers that is both known to be bloated as all sin (and yes Ive tried them) and a quarter of the price is.... Insulting? Dont get me wrong, I have no affiliation, loyalty or fanboy-ism towards Audeze. In fact, I generally much prefer Hifiman and AKG over them in most cases, but this does kinda feel like comparing a mcdonalds burger to a ribeye steak dinner and then saying the steak is lacking in comparison ig. Again though, I dont really care what other people like and as long as they enjoy it, that genuinly makes me happy. What I personally do sometimes if im playing a single player game or watching a movie and feel like i miss that "cinema rumble" for lack of a better description, is to crank up the sub bass to a sickening level. Usually 18-22hz which is bordering inaudible to humans, but you certainly feel it, especially with headphones like these that have massive drivers to move alot of air. Works best with planars and usually a lot of preamp to compensate, but it does mean you get that really impactful and immersive feel without having to listen to bass that sounds like farting sounds or overpowering every other sound going on.
The Xbox version has always worked on PS5, You just have to switch the dongle from Xbox to PC. That atmos update was only for HDMI devices, Like sound systems. Unfortunately no wireless support for atmos on the PS5, Even with the new update.

with that said, i'm also in this kind of situation right now, of not knowing if i should buy the headset or not, considering their planar magnetic drivers and that they're a closed back.
I bought wicked cushions, I had to remove them, the odor and increased clamping force, I tried them on the maxwell for a couple weeks. No biggie, the stock ones are wonderful
You never said it was lol u picked the stealth pro over it
Didn't even pick the stealth pro, in his latest top 5 wireless headset video he picked the blackshark v2 pro over everything else
@@barneyismyhero1without watching the video again, I feel like I remember some nuance you're leaving out. Didn't he say one of the factors in picking that was that it offered a better value? I could be misremembering

I have bought all my headsets on your recommendations and you haven’t steered me wrong yet. 👍
I’m seeing MANY posts and reports of the film of the drivers starting to crinkle from pressure inside the cups and ruining the sound of the headphones. Was going to order one but I decided to hold off since it seems like the problem is coming up more and more.
Yup just happend to me. This needs to be talked about more.
@@theconsolekiller7113 Almost anything is going to be better than a Razer headset. Compared to the Maxwell's your ears are going to be in for a treat!

@@justinbeard4733 does the lcd 2 sound better while playing call of duty then the audeze lcd gx?
Sounds like a reason not to get these.@@jamesmadison3108

My predeccessor was the Virtuoso and i think SOund quality isnt better but good enough for the price... hopefully sound on the cloud alpha will be better then the Virtuoso... Reddit has been blowing up over damage to the foil on the drivers beening damage/ rinkles causing cracking sound from air pressure pushing against the foil, I have rinkles no crackling yet , what about yours have you checked and no mention of it
True was thinking to buy audeze now im kinda leaning to turtle beaches stealth pros
@@michaelmitchell1900 wow so who ever buys the maxwells will all have this issue?
Love my audeze maxwells.
Random question, should i get the crf300 rally for a lightweight adv bike? Or a klr650 for a more highway capable adv bike?
I'm guessing your game chat issue was because your chat was ingame chat rather than xbox party chat? Could that be the case? Coz if so, the issue you had was probably because the chat was coming through the game rather than the xbox chat which is what the headset is probably looking for. If so, try the party chat and see if you still have the same problem.
What headset would you recommend for ps5/pc if not audeze because I heard a lot of problems with this headset In their Reddit audeze
Lol the only way to win all around I guess lol
thanks for sharing! any quality issues that you've noticed? any of the cups have gone silent? I'm reading a lot of issues with the Maxwells....
@@Tadrax I've had zero issues. Things are outstanding. It's a toss up between BT features or pure sound. Nova pro's are a great multi tasking daily driver. But for just deep dive gaming....
Can confirm my right cup died today after 2 months
I've never personally found the weight to be an issue, I've had it for a few months now. But I also have a Steelcase Leap v2 so my neck/back aren't getting beat up
So should I get the maxwell or the blackshark v2??
Maxwell have the best sound overall unbeatable ! COD suck in footsteps anyway but when you play other fps games as CS go the maxwell perform amazingly !
I disagree the maxwell are okay bit directional sound is blured and some frequencies get deowned when something else happens. My IEM’ do a way better job and display sound way further away even tho the soundstage is even smaller on them. For musik they are alright. And wireless is nice.
But I don’t think they are worth it at all for a gaming headset. And neither for launging since they are really way to heavy.
Would rather eq my arctis nova pro.

The weight is nothing, people whining about the weight are pussies with pencil necks.
