  • I found these 2 MCM chairs by a dumpster and decided to save them. The old fabric was pretty gross and one of the chairs was missing a piece. In this video watch me restore the old finish and reupholster each chair to a new fresh look.

      Thank you! I had no clue what to do with that back piece and winged it lol but it really isn't too noticeable as the color blends if you are a few feet away. Thanks for watching!

    Furniture Flippa, I just spent $800.00 for 4 Wood chairs - modern. Chairs are expensive- especially Restored MCM ones with their minimalist but eye appealing curvy lines. Imho; Take the extra time to fix the holes in the top of the leg stabilizer . Also I would watch a few YT videos on upholstery. & do that over too. This plus the screws you’ll match will elevate these chairs to a higher price & more chances for a long life not in a landfill. Look what I paid! These MCM sleek little beauties you found are worth going the extra mile for & you’ll be able to get more equipment you need. You definitely have talent & an eye for finding nice pieces to bring back to life. ❤ & Blessings

    I like the wood stain, and the piece that you created blends well with the rest of the chair. I think you did a pretty good job considering that you were learning about upholstery with this piece.

    I love to see crafters try new skills. I've seen far worse stitching! Great first effort. I think the holes in the wood could do with another touch up, but other than that you have made an unloved pair of somewhat abused chairs look like happy sisters again! Well done👍

    Nice job. In the future, use the old upholstery to create a pattern using a news paper or packing paper from a box. You are a gutsy young man for trying new things. Remember that each mistake teaches a lesson, that perhaps,you won't have to learn again. You have an eye for this work and are talented.Joann Fabric sells foam by the yard.

    What a find! Mid Century is my favorite style. They turned out really well. Just for comfort, I probably would have used some foam under the fabric. And I would definitely turn the around piece so that the holes don’t show! Keep flipping! 👏🏻👏🏻

    Nice job! I'd fix the holes regardless of selling or keeping the chairs. As far as the screws go, there are shops online that sell the exact sizes you need by the piece in bronze or steel. Not very expensive if your buying say 8 screws. I even hit the screwheads with some dirty butchers wax after scuffing them to take away the new look of the hardware. Thanks for posting.

    If you were keeping the chairs I would say fill in the holes on the new peace you made.
    Next time you might want to glue some thin foam down then batting and then the new fabric.
    Too bad that an old original turquoise underneath was not salvageable. That color was badass.
    Excellent restoration sir.

      Hi Jim, I am considering filling them in with wood filler, then sanding, staining, sealing, then try to color match. Or I will just make a full new piece from scratch. Will update everyone. Thanks for watching and I am glad you like the restoration. Cheers, Jamie

    Well done! How weird those plastic covers were! Yikes! I would have used foam first then batting, to make it softer. You did a good job with the upholstery, it's hard getting that really neat. I do think you should switch so the holes doesn't show, it does look a bit weird! Fantastic chairs, love mid century. Very clever to get a donor chair for a dollar, love when people upcycle.

    Nice job I like these kinds of chairs I have the ones that are mid-century that have the wood backs with the diamond inlay to hide the screws. I wish I had the time to refinish them I have once but it has been a while I need to get him resend because they are kind of getting a little hairy around the edges on the backings.

    I think it’s best to fix , bcoz you will have a customer, that requires it be like store bought ! Probably bring you a better price !

  • @juliakathryn2582
    @juliakathryn2582 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If I was the potential customer, I would immediately be drawn to the difference between the two chairs. Would it matter? It all depends on the cost of the chairs. After all, I could reposition the piece myself. I don't know, truly. I guess my mood would determine the purchase. And, of course, the fact that the chairs were redone bu Flippa. 😊

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally, it definitely hurts the value of them. I do plan to get a new piece made soon, but after all that work I need a break from these chairs haha thanks so much for watching!

    They look great but without foam rubber on the seats and backs they can't be too comfortable. If you really want to do it right I would reupholster with foam and since you have to take it apart anyway remake the cross bars.

    I was very impressed with how you recycled a piece of wood and carved it into shape. I think you need to reupholster the backs though. What you did is OK, but the backs of chairs are often seen more than the fronts, so you should try again. This might help. th-cam.com/video/hu6skQqye_g/w-d-xo.html

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think the shape of these chairs is what made it so hard, along with the fact I couldn’t hide any of the stitching, unlike the video you sent me. They could hide their stitches below and on the sides, I had 0 places to hide it and the round shape made blind stitching basically impossible. My first time ever, so yes it looks bad but now I know not to tackle something similar shape lol I will only try a chair back that I can hid the blind stitches more haha thanks for watching
