Martyn, woolens and nosh are the socks I knitted this past Christmas. With the mini, you start by knitting your cuff or toe depending if your knitting cuff down or toe up. Then you start the stripes-- in between each color of stripe you’ll have the same color as the mini. So if you only want to knit a stripe a day, you stop when you get to the mini color. I think you’ll love this-- it’s easy to get through the pair and so much fun.-- ENJOY!!!!!

Hi Martyn, both the shawls are gorgeous in their own right.
The Raw Wool Company one is lovely in its simplicity and Little Grey Girl is just a-maz-ing!!
You have done so well with your new passion. But don't forget your first loves. 😂
Off to see Kinky Boots tomorrow, starring the stupendous Johannes Radebe from Strictly.
One of my favourite films. So excited.
I've started the Anthrology Throw, only 576 stitches at the moment, soon to double again. 😂
It's an amazing pattern and it's going with me tomorrow. There is a lot of just knitting in the round to great tv watching. I will put it away for the show, as do a bit in the interval.
Have a lovely week. xxJane 🐑🌼

The sampler blanket is looking gorgeous and OMG the shawls. I knit that Woolens and Nosh set two years ago (2022 Advent). It's gorgeous and I think you'll love it. And the mini is enough for cuffs, heels, and toes, as long as your cuff is around 15 rounds or less.

Your shawls are beautiful. Both of them. The last seven yarns you spun, held together makes me think they would be a beautiful cowl. I know spinning is a lot of fun and you are doing so well, but I hope it doesn't get in the way with your knitting and crochet. You are inspiring in your projects and I always look forward to seeing what you are creating. Love seeing both of you, busy with your lives and what you are doing. Thank you for that. You asked what we are working on. I finished my Go Go Dynamo Shawl by Stephen West. Love it, but it took me forever! I started another of Stephen Wests shawls and got confused on the pattern work and decided to go it on my own and create my own shawl with different stitches, I'm on the last part of it now. It's huge.
We have our local yarn event coming in about 2 weeks. It is here in Tacoma Washington at a motel. It's been several years, but with covid and things, I've missed it for some years. I am hoping to get there this year. That Vertices Unite shawl that someone gifted for one of your give a way's just changed what I thought of that pattern and I am going to try to find yarn close in those colors to create it. I didn't like it before in the colors that Stephen used, but the one you held up sure changed my mind. Thank you for sharing that. Have fun at your shows

I definitely have to do the knit and then purl row before I stop. If I’m knitting in the round - it’s harder to know when to stop!! Sometimes I do a pattern repeat, or the cable round so I have an easier next row. Maybe it’s a thing but whatever makes us smile eh? 😂❤

I also love that there's no mohair!! I'm sensitive to mohair and that's the perfect option! That & "exploration station" are still on my list, but I haven't chosen colors...I have a couple gorgeous advent gradient sets & wonder if they'd work. One is even 30gr minis.
I'm making 4 (yes, 4) emotional support chickens for my BFF's grandkids for easter..doing assembly line style, they're going quickly.... until I discovered I have no red or yellow! 🤣🤣😂

How I wish one of the UK companies would produce an Advent bag like Woolens and Nosh ! It looks such a fun knit but US tax and postage makes it too expensive for me. If you have any influence Martyn please suggest it as it would be a sell out! The colours on your shawl are stunning and will look amazing when finished. Well done again on your spinning! XX

Gauging spinning speed is a tough one, and when I became curious about it, I decided to calculate in terms of spinning hours vs metres of 2-ply yarn produced. Because depending on how thick or thin you spun, the grams will be very different.
During last Summer’s Tour De Fleece (oh, do look into it, TDF is such fun and GREAT to improve your skills) I decided to track my spinning time and how many metres it yielded. Well, spinning a bit every say yielded me 36 hours behind the wheel and 1155,6 metres of yarn, of which roughly 150 metres were 3-ply and the rest was lace weight 2-ply. That’s not terribly fast but lace weight takes a bit more care, a lot more twist, and you need to be careful not to break your singles during plying. I didn’t log niddy-noddying time, or skeining time. Neither did I count the time I spent scouring and combing raw wool.
Some spinning techniques are faster than others. Longdraw is apparently the fastest way to spin. But my TDF production was short forward draw.
People in the online TDF group were impressed (or so they told me). Maybe they were impressed by the time I spent spinning. Or maybe because I’d been spinning less than a year.
All I can say Martyn, is that you are a fast learner, and that your yarns look really good. Please keep spinning. There's always a fun fibre just begging to be spun, with pretty colours and a delightful texture that will make your fingers sing. And when it's turned to yarn you get to enjoy it all over again because you get to knit with it.
Edit: the yarn weight guide is for singles and plied yarn. If you want to know if your singles are thin enough to produce a lace weight 2-ply, you’ll have to do a ply-back test and hold that bit against your spinning guide. It’s really easy to do: pull a bit of what you’re spinning off the bobbin (or don’t allow it to pull onto the bobbin), double it up and allow it to twist itself together. There’s your sample. Check it, untwist it and let it join the rest onto the bobbin. Either keep spinning as is (if you’re happy) or adjust your spinning (if you want thicker/thinner).

So that Sec 9, Leafy Lace… I was almost done with Section 10 Seed Stitch with the mohair when I realized that I had made a grievous error in Section 9. I stewed for a week, contemplated undoing (even with mohair) and then decided that since the error was consistent across the row, I would settle for a slight redesign of Section 9. Unless someone is intimately familiar with the shawl pattern, I don’t think anyone will notice. Love, love, love the colors of yours! And I love the neutral interpretation of Exploration Station - gives it a completely different vibe.

Hi Martyn, I've really enjoyed following your spinning progress, as I do all your podcasts. I just wanted to say, with an e-spinner you don't have to have it directly in front of you. Try getting comfortable on the sofa and having it at your side, the yarn will still make its way to the bobbin and you can watch TV comfy! ❤
If you decide to make your TH-cam workshop an online tutorial I'd love to subscribe, I'm so nervous but would love to try.

Thank you for answering my question from your previous video. Your not bragging your just having ah hah moments and that is something to be proud of. You mentioned hiding your cords, I purchased a rechargeable power source for me e spinner. I don’t have an Ashford so I don’t know if that’s possible but it has definitely been a game changer and I get 10-12 hours out of a charge. You might also want to consider purchasing 2 or 3 extra bobbins to have on hand for your mass production days. Also another very handy but inexpensive spinning tool you may want to get is from Katrinkles and it shows your yarn sizes in wood with appropriately sized grooves to lay your wool in. I find it easier than laying on top of a flat surface. Both devices would be nice to have. I was wondering if you ever “Thwack” (sp?) your skeins after soaking them to help even out the spin? I hear people talk about it but I’m not sure exactly how to do it. Again I’m also new to spinning so we can help each other out with our new discoveries. Keep up the good work.

I hope so, but at about 33:32 where you hold a piece of paper behind the shawl, I see a hole larger than the others just to the viewer's left of the part you focus on. Most visible at 33:37-39. Also at 33:42, it is almost center screen.
