Nice subjects but try to move a bit closer. A 50mm lens gives you almost the same angle as the human eye, and a shot is better when you get closer. Details would also be better. Street photos can look very good in B&W too, such as Ilford FP4. Good effort here but more potential w more experience
My observation, a bit more "busy", commotion, going on in this photo session. So, more challenging, eh ? I really love your work, seeing how you frame your photos...being in one of the most interesting metro areas on the planet.
Yeah I agree, I really want to get better with film so am going to spend more time with it for sure, it’s less forgiving then digital. Ideally I want to be shooting at least a roll or 2 a month providing my budget allows for it haha
Hi man, second of your videos I've watched, really like your shots, especially your use of lines to lead in or draw focus. Only one minor thing I don't like about your videos are sometimes you sound like you don't want to be too happy with your work (I guess you don't want to come across as arrogant?) but I think just stand by your stuff! Looking forward to more of your content.
Thanks for the feedback, I guess I find that the images I’m taking during these videos I am rarely happy with, making the videos sort of distracts me from what’s happening in the street. I also do feel like a beginner in many ways and have never been one to blow my own trumpet as they say. It’s all a learning experiment for me and hopefully over time I can improve my skills and get a bit more confident with my work
Do they do their own film? Might look into it. I was thinking of doing some videos experimenting with different film stock in the future. And thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it
Nice photos here. What color film did you use? Fujicolor 200? Did you use the camera's internal light meter? This is inspiring me to take out my Pentax Spotmatic SPII. Well done.
Shows you can still get some decent shots using film and a vintage ‘proper’ camera! I say proper cos it’s a world away from the Yashica Microtec zoom 90 point and shoot I carried around south east Asia 20 years ago. Only went through 17 rolls of film in 4 and a half months, so you’re dead right about picking your shots. Now with digital I’ll think nothing of taking 200 in a couple of hours wandering around my local area. I can’t wait to get over to Japan next year with a proper camera and just take photos of anything and everything without worrying about the developing bill from Boots when I get home haha. At the same time though I do wish I had invested in an SLR rather than the point and shoot back in the day!
Hey Dan thanks for checking the video it’s much appreciated. Maybe next year when you come to Japan you can pick up a cheap skrillex or rangefinder, some of the more popular cameras from the 60’s - 80’s can be found so cheap and often in great condition, especially the mass produced Japanese brands of the day. The sought after gear is usually pretty expensive and finding a good deal on something like a contact or Leica is very hard as people are generally very clued up in prices, but the generic canon, Olympus, Nikon type stuff can be had for a bargain.
Hi Jonny, I really enjoyed the vid and the pics. I agree there is something that film has over digital. My problem is with the idea of film slowing you down. This is no doubt to do with economy of film and nothing to do with creativity. Look at Garry Winogrand.
Yes this is essentially what I was saying, that due to the economy of film it does force you to slow down and think a bit more about the shots you are taking
Another good video man, really like the colours on that film! Brings back memories, I went out in Shinjuku with my film camera one evening when I was there last year, like you say it's a fun process and you can get some interesting results. My favourite shot was of this drunk old man in memory lane, you can check out the video on my channel if you're interested haha.
