It's a parody of Spider-Man's symbiote, much like the Turtles themselves started as a parody of Daredevil and other Frank Miller comics of the time. I love Raph's black suit
And the fact that even after getting rid of the symbiote he started wearing a black cloth suit.
Most people always use the term 'parody' in this context, it's an homage, not a parody. TMNT also wasn't a parody of Miller's daredevil, it was inspired by it.
I loved blask suit raph. Crazy how as a kid i appreciated all this stuff.
Was really hoping for these as alternative outfits in Shredder’s Revenge.

As a kid I remember getting a coloring book with an all black Ralph. I thought it was an accident.

I swear as a kid I went in a grocery store and pick up a TMNT comic and it was like the part in the movie where the turtles meditate and talk to Splinter, only he is like, Nice pants/slacks or something like that! Never saw the comic again.

He's my personal favorite turtle since the 1987 show debuted and I always tjoifht his Sai was very distinctive and stood out. I remember borrowing an issue where they meet wingnut and needle nose plus that flying cow head who spat them out and I saw thr costumes. it brought back memories when u showed the shot of them saying "KRANG?!" LOL bit as a kid I didn't read any other comics other than that one. Thank u for going into detail another why he wore it.
I asked this question about 2 months ago on Turtle Nexus and they mentioned it soon after in the video about the Intergalactic Wrestling Federation.

Agreed. I'm actually in the process of reading this series again. I had a few issues as a kid and always wanted to experience the whole story. I thought the black costume fit Raph really well. I wish they would have had him use it every so often after that instead of just once. Unfortunately after issue 57 I only have a few issues without the connecting tissue in between them. I gotta get the rest to have this complete series if possible. It's really a fun, cool version of the turtles and if you grew up during that time these will seem like an old friend even if you never read them before. I love TMNT!
I re read the whole series too some years back. They stopped selling it in my local, then they outright stopped selling it in the UK so i was fudged.
Tbh I kinda like the all black. Maybe like they shoulda gave it a bit more Depth. So he wouldn’t look like a ninja turtle Spider-Man. Like that would b cool if all the turtles had black suits on
I had one of the issues that happened after the wrestling issue and was trying to figure out why he was all black. I really liked it since Raph was my favorite but never knew until now.
Exactly why I'm here! I saw a comic book after he was already using the black suit and eventually I assumed someone just went over that comic book and repaint him as black because he thought it looks cool

These outfits were supposed to appear after the turtles came from triceraton space in the mirage books
@@Danimal4321 the wrestling suits aka the original costumes were created before the Archie adventures series in the mirage eastman & laird art style concept pin up art in 1984-1985 in notes during the entire tcri saga they originally intended to have them trade in their all red mask bushinojitsu esthetic of looking the same to tactically confuse their opponents to think theres multiple scores of them to having a distinctive look for the readers to tell them apart ( before the 1987 cartoon studio mandates came up with the multicolored mask elbow knee pads and wrist wraps and the initial belt buckles.*) The original costumes or the wrestling outfits were a parody and homaging the schulers spiderman black suit symbiote of marvels secret wars event
