Exactly and it's outrageous that they didn't mention one of the main reason for the dry up. Turkey used to always close the water up streams to effect Iraq even before the American invasion. Iran and Syria has also stolen the water of Iraq by building more damps and diverging the stream of some rivers on the borders. This is all a result of the weakened iraqi state after the American invasion.

Disappointed that there is no mention to the fact that Turkey’s new dams are the main contributor to the rivers drying in Syria and Iraq . You need a documentary on this. In the 70’s we used to have one main red dust storm in early summer in low rain years. You can do better channel 4

I remember reading about the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers and the Indus river valley in my world history class. We consider this the birthplace of civilization and now look what we've done to it and to its people. How will we bear the human wreckage and displacement?

If you look at what has happened to Uzbekistan's and Kazakhstan's (formerly USSR's) Aral Sea, and how that has dried up, and you find that it's not difficult to see how easily these things happen. This is shocking but it shouldn't be a surprise.

There is no time for trying to solve the problem by bringing the future population down, by using birth control. Not if you can't bring CO2 emissions down.

This is so sad to see. The lives of these people are truly so difficult, and becoming more difficult by the day. It may sound a little harsh, but I don't understand why would someone decide to have children when they themselves are struggling so much and, by their own admission, do not see a future.
If you tie having children with hardship, humanity will not have come this far. These children have to learn to survive and thrive. They have to move to where opportunity exists and go on having their children. It builds character and you fulfill your purpose.

They will have to get water for domestic, industrial and farming uses. They have a lot of oil so can distill fresh or brackish water from sea water, but it takes at least 1 litre of oil to produce 1 litre of slightly salty water, so a slow expensive process. In Arab countries they would have to use foreign labour and expertise for the whole process as otherwise it would never happen. IT's very expensive and it adds to global warming, a feedback mechanism as this would be caused by global warming as well as adding to it. Humanity is screwed!

Same as in Africa, herders have to move to become cultivators . The drought because of climate change is making it impossible for herders and nomadic tribes. Only agriculture ( which requires water ) , regenerative agriculture can help. They have destroyed the topsoil. We have to put the carbon back in the soil.
It looks like two things will end up happening, the Middle East will be unhospitable and people will be forced to abandoned that region as temperatures may reach over 60% Celsius and dry river banks and the other possibility is that countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar might just have to sell oil to buy water from Southern Africa, South East Asia and USA.
Turkey has built dozens of dams on the upper rivers preventing water flow.

why dont they drill deeper for water wells , i know its a naive question i am not fully versed in their geography
well, first is cost.
the more you dig the expensive it gets.
for families like that, without government support, is like asking why they don't buy a trator to help with the fields.
second is if they had an aquifer underground to take water.
is not so simply as dig a hole everywhere and water pour up magically.
I think you need there to be groundwater for wells to function and maybe theirs is so deep that it's not viable.

I don't know the situation in Iraq, but in many countries using wells the ground water levels are depleting.
Euphrates river is drying up..the Mississippi river in the US is drying up..the Yangtze river in China is drying up..i wonder what's causing all of this..i just hope nothing worse comes out from this..
