    This is a truly monumental accomplishment for a single dev. I’m blown away by the quality of your work. Even huge teams out of game studios struggle to get a locomotion system looking half as good as this. Great work man.

      @Beyond-Studios 6 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Razor Skidrow wow, no need to be a jerk about it dude. But you're right that I'm a novice when it comes to coding and animation. By all means, please share a link to your work so we can see what you mean. One thing you can't deny is that this system looks better than the locomotion you see in several professionally released games.

  • @marshmallowman2633
    @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Damn bro you have the perfected to Almost high tier levels of locomotion, i cant wait to see you try to make kind of omni directional parkour look smooth.With enough time you would create a smooth FULL Movement system for on the ground jumping on all sides of surfaces, running on it, sliding on it and etc.

    • @marshmallowman2633
      @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      what i mean by omnidirectional parkour is like how you would jump at a wall without looking at it and you would temporarily 'stick' to it and can jump off the wall at a specified direction, and if no inputs were made then you would simply slide down.

    • @marshmallowman2633
      @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could also make the parkour mesh together with running and walking rather than putting a specific animation.

    • @marshmallowman2633
      @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An example would be like in infamous how you would jump and hold on to a ledge, and 1 thing from infamous is how every detail of the surface can be touched and climbed with. Rather than just jumping to a ledge using what you created different velocities will make you 'Run/Slide' along the wall and can change 'Slightly' in any direction during the process.

    • @marshmallowman2633
      @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And lastly you could include an 'Non - animation' action where if you run along a wall corner and wish to continue running on the other side of the wall (interior corner or even exterior corner) and this could also apply to the ceiling where after reaching the ceiling (if ceiling is short enough) the character would switch orientation to push or kick against the ceiling to accelerate down in any (possible) direction

    • @marshmallowman2633
      @marshmallowman2633 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thats just my suggestions for ideas not forcing you. But my ideas may seem crazy, im just imagining a very Agile charcter that jumps fron wall to wall and smoothly runs and slides along wall and ceiling like a spiderman type of character and i mention alot of pushing of wall because i got the idea from anime characters such as( gran torino from my hero academia) he moves around by pusing of walls because of how small and tiny he is and how he has air jets in his foot soles to propel him.

    This is very interesting asset!! I don't own it yet, but i am really considering a purchase. Reason i am little bit hesitant is, this is (seems like) mostly fps/tps centric system. My project has top down view, i would like to ask few questions if you don't mind:
    1. Could you please show how to add aim offset with weapon, reload? Basically, layered blends by bone for upper torso.
    2. Melee attacks with root motion take over entire skeleton. Could you please show how it would work?
    3. Does any functionality depends on the angle between camera boom and player's rotation? I hope not, that could be a problem in top down view mode.
    4. Also, could you please show how turn in place works In top down view? Be it turn to cursor on command, or constant turning to mouse cursor.
    In any case, fantastic work!

It would also look great if you created this into a character with physics symulated clothes and all. I suggest you add a parkour system to make it look even better. But still, this is amazing!

    Really great work. I have been using your set up since version one, and they just keep getting better. However, I do feel the jump feels a bit out of place. Thought you really nailed the jump in V2.

    • @LongmireLocomotion
      @LongmireLocomotion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup I know what you mean. I reworked the jumping system to use a more traditional setup (jump, fall loop) to be a bit more flexible, and the animation is meant to more closely match the default mannequin animations. I might add another jump in the future depending on how much feedback I get. The problem with the older system was the jump prediction could de-sync if the character moved while in the air or changed fall rates.

    Hi, i love what you did. I'm trying to implement it to my main character blueprint in an other project and i'm having difficulties to do that. It is a real pain in the ass!!
    Can you do a nice tutorial about how to do that? you know your baby more than anyone. It will be nice very much appreciated!. thx :)

    Has a lot of similarities to things I've been working on for my game, Im also self taught doing everything my self. Some stuff you made I have yet to add but I do have some unique things your's does not, like friction with a 3d balance system, and a fully dynamic ledge climbing system featuring ledge navigation amongst some other things. I really need to get the foot IK in mine at some point like yours since thats just a really nice realistic touch.

      @LongmireLocomotion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Sounds pretty cool. I'm also working on a fully dynamic climbing system, among some other things. It would be cool to share notes :D. The 3D balance system sounds interesting. I'm assuming this allows the character to slide off a ledge if it gets too steep?

      Ah thanks good sir. Sweet son, yeah you got a lot going on here with this, I would keep adding to it over time if I was you too. It took me over 5 months to do the fully dynamic ledge climbing, Im doing a ray tracted method since its really the only way I can do it as full fledged as Im wanting, but luckily despite it running many traces each third of a millisecond surprisingly it costs barely any frames lol, so its all good. Im actually still not done though, been working on it and off amongst other things, and I have yet to add some scripted capability that isn't dynamic, like detecting special objects like poles and other things, and I have yet to add the ability to grab from walking movement mode, so far you can only grab a ledge if falling into it.
      Indeed, we can do that, would be fun and helpful. Im not at the animation stage for my game yet, I actually have a lot left to learn with how to do that, its gonna be a lot of work adding in all the state machines and such. There's probably a lot I can learn from you in that regard. I dont use assets so Ill have to make all the animations manually, which is fun and I can do but its just going to be a while down the road into next year before I get to that. Cant wait to get to it though, going to be a lot of fun to do. I've done some animation tests like a simple walk and stuff and it looked pretty good, but Im waiting till after I make my characters and finalize the rig Im working on for my characters before I commit to animation, because if I decide later that Im missing some joints and need to add them in while animation is already going on, it could damage a lot of that work and make it redundant. For example I thought I was done making my skeleton some time ago for my characters, but then I realized how shit the shoulders were deforming, along with knees and other areas so I went back in added like 20 deformation correcting joints like twist joints and what I call pull joints to relax the shoulders or push the skin over to smoothen movements. There may be some more I need to add later so Im just letting some things stew a bit while also focusing more on the modeling and texturing and programming for now lol.
      Yeah thats one incidental feature of how friction works in mine, but overall to best put it is its just overall friction on a full scale from rough to slick. When it hits a threshold of slick it will bring up a 3d balance system on the hud where you have to hold shift and then push a key to move in the opposite direction of the sliding of the character, and theres a little compass that will show you which direction to push, also got it working with console controllers along with all the controls so far. If you dont push shift you will keep moving like usual and pushing backward will slow you down and run backwards but wont teeter, so shift is needed to teeter. But the friction overall besides that, it will make you fall over if you dont balance correctly, but depending on variables like velocity and falling velocity, or the jump velocity, you will fall and teeter much faster. It will also determine how long you can hang from the ledge if the ledge is slick before it forces you to let go. Ill show you some pictures or put up a video tomorrow, honestly I dont know any other developers or artists, I keep to myself and just work alone most the time, but as my game gets further along I have been itching to talk about it. Not to brag or boast or anything, but like you said to share notes and just showcase a bit.

      Here's the furthest zoomed out shot of my ledge climbing system, there's a lot more of it but I just cant fit it all in 1 screenshot. It should be pretty clear why it took so long to make ha. Good times though, lots of memories. This is the main graph where most the logic is done, I have 2 other smaller graphs that handle moving along ledges and transitioning around corners and pulling up to stand.
      drive.google.com/file/d/1rPRWX69OBydC5YJAqc5E2jxfYReyyPMK/view?usp=sharing
      And this is one of the smaller graphs that handles moving along a ledge, can go left, right, up, and down, if there is a hangable position to move to. It also features hanging and moving around on moving objects, just put that feature in a few months back.
      drive.google.com/file/d/19mj9cVdN3waRiLNUqQA1BKUi_50koEaX/view?usp=sharing
      Also they are a mess, I dont really focus on keeping my graphs really clean, but I do try and at least keep them spaced out, snapped to the grid and tagged with comments so that I can easily reverse engineer them in case I forgot how I made it work and come back later to add stuff. No one needs to work with them but me so I can totally get away with it haha.
      And also here's some screenshots of some of the characters so far, everything's a work in progress, but they are looking pretty good. I've redesigned and updated the look of the characters so much, they used to look like xbox 360 graphics or ps2 lol. I'm Doing female characters first then male.
