- Playthrough with the Art of Fighting team. Ths PS2 version of this game was released as a standalone game in Japan and Europe, but in America it was released as part of a double pack which also included KoF 2002. This version also has new 3D backgrounds.
Gameplay wise things have had another shake-up with this installment, as whilst the fights are still 3 vs 3, you can now swap between characters during the battle. You can also pick a team "leader", which gives the chosen character an extra DM they can use.
There's a couple of boss fights in this one. First you have to fight Chizuru and Maki. Chizuru seems to be a lot easier to defeat than Maki, although Maki isn't really that difficult either -her attacks can just confuse you. The final boss is Mukai, who has the usual over-powered attacks, but is also really dumb. He just doesn't seem to care about blocking at all.

Fun fact: SNK and Eolith were using the same voice clips from KOF '96-'98 Robert for the rest of the games. It also explain why Robert has a new voice for KOF' 2003. Also, The guy who voices Robert in this game is the same guy who voiced him at '94 and '95.

I know man really don't know why. The gameplay is fun as hell. The soundtrack is great too.
That's because it's not THAT great. I can think of three KOFs more worthy of being called "the 3rd strike". Now I do like 2003 but there are a few better games out there. Even 11 with its overall boring stages (ignoring the better console exclusives) and awful final boss is better than this IMHO.

03 definitely has a very solid roster balancing old and new. I think it’s just that the shift system hadn’t been mastered yet design wise in this game
KOF 2003 has great endings for all teams! A rare thing in a game.

Same. The xbox version of this game is the best kof arcade to console port ever apart from kof 99 evolution which is on the dreamcast and the kof nests collection on ps2.

+xWagnerPlaguesx Same engine and hardware runs both, I believe at that time SNK Playmore was starting to get their legs back under them (remember SNK went bankrupt not many years before, then Playmore bought them), and after Eolith did 01 and 02, SNK took the reins back for the series. Guess they just decided to use whatever sounds they had for the menus as it was quick and easy.
+Bloodreign1 true. Although I actually like the fighting sound effects, sounds martial artish from some movies I use to watch vs the old hit sounds. Some of the old sounds use to sound low quality like explosions where the sound wave exceeds its range so it sounds overly loud like static. Also im a sound kind of guy and its the reason why I want this game which is on its way to my home this week. Also for that chaos game. btw Same reason I want Killer instinct and will be getting Xbox one instead of Ps4 at the moment soon because of the hit sound effects and sound design! WOW. SF5 looks and sounds so stale. its like Battlefield sound vs call of duty sounds

Realmente mi segundo Kof favorito, es simplemente magistral, su historia, música, y especialmente su jugabilidad. Pd. La etapa de Mukai en esta versión es genial.
Kof 2003 no fue el segundo mejor.
Para mí fueron los mejores Kof 98 de Ps1 y Kof 2002 de Ps2
Juega la 98 de Dreamcast y verás que esa joya se pule mejor ahí

I don't know why they messed up with some kof voices like Jhun, Billy, Chang, etc. Ryuji, for example, became more psychotic with his new voice.
The voice actors were older for this release, looks like SNK recorded new lines for this release.

So we have KOF 2003 with Mukai who is an Anti-Villain that respects the potential humans. KOF XI with Magaki who is critically the bad guy players love to hate. And then KOF XIII with a Ash Clone who acts like Satan in terms of actions and personality and kind of looks like him in his second form.
KOF 2003 is where SNK messed up.
They should've focused on the 4 games of the *Maximum Impact Saga* first with the 3D graphics, and then start on the 4 games of the *Tales of Ash Saga* next with the fluid and highly-detailed graphics.

He's playing the PAL version, which was on CD and not DVD, hence the load times.

SO this KOF abandoned the Red and white flash KO screen? or did you just have it set to off?
Yeah SNK changed it for this one. It still does things like having quick white flashes during certain moves (like at 3:45) but the final K.O. hit makes the screen flash red
As long i turn it off i have nothing to worry about! im glad! becuase the red flashs a little too fast in this one so thanks!

+Derly Martinez That's why I went the Japan route for it, but then again my PS2 is fliptop modded for stuff like this.The US 02/03 pack is stupidly priced, the 00/01 pack has come down a bit in value over time. I said screw waiting for a price decrease and bought 02 and 03 Japanese versions, though over there they came out separately.
+Bloodreign1 I would import it since my PS2 is also modded, but by sheer luck, one day at work, someone left this game with a broken Phat PS2 next to it at a house I was repairing. Luckily, both 02 and 03 worked.

I notice something the Japanese version doesn't have that the western versions have, pre fight load time. Here it's at least 5-7 seconds, the Japanese versions around 1, maybe 2 seconds. That's why I bought it instead of the US double pack, that and the Japanese versions of 02 and 03 ran me $14 a piece.
I might have an answer to this: the Japanese version is on a DVD, whilst the European version I've used is on a CD, which takes longer to access.
I'd need to check on the US version, I believe it's on DVD as well, and has the load times. KoF 00/01 is on DVD in the US and Japan and has the load times. It's an oddity.
Confirmed from an ebay auction, the US 02 and 03 are also DVD. Strange stuff. 02 and 03 I have their separate Japanese releases, as well as Nests, they all run fine (I know you own the Nests collection).

@@blaze6477 not because I had a version of PS2 called KOF 10 in 1 that comes out 95 96 97 94 2000 to 2003 and 94 and 2000 to 2003, all of these are not going to be able to play with the analog only with the crosshead but I don't know if 2003 is only different than the one I tell you
