i missed doing really casual sit down videos & just chatting with you guys, so i thought it would be perfect to upload a video where i really just talk about my absolute obsession at the moment: READING :') (there's a weird glitch at around the 9:45 mark...probably due to the fact that the iphone footage got messed up during the exporting stage. ignore that i cant seem to fix it lol) let me know what books u guys are reading rn!!!
I feel that!! I had a huge gap where I was reading a bunch in high school & then just never picked it up for awhile! I hope some of my recs spark ur interest again🥺
I’m so happy others are getting into reading! I started reading at a very young age and it was always hard to find books that were up to my age level( I’m 13 and I read YA and A books)
lmao it’s so funny we’re all going through the same “phase” at the same time. i’ve bought an insane amount of books just this month alone when i bought Zero last year lol
As a book lover the series the lunar chronicles is a very popular book series and if you haven’t already read it you NEED to. It’s one of my favorite favorite book series.
I always watch Jem’s video whenever one or two show up on my Home page, but this time thoooo, she’s talking about books? I never clicked faster 😂✌🏽 Also she talks about Spirit??? I swear it was the only cartoon that my brother watch growing up. We have that playing on our tv every morning for a year 🥲
hi hi, i think you'd like the Girls of Paper and Fire series by Natasha Ngan. it takes place in an asian-inspired fantasy world (as in many different asian cultures, which we love), there's a f/f relationship and it's mostly about women supporting each other and surviving trauma but also how people experience trauma differently. such, such a beautiful series!
This is a great timing since I've been finding new books to read. I recommend the truly devious series. I think the genre is up on your alley and it's my favorite read for 2020 :)
I just got done reading Aurora Burning (sequel to Aurora Rising) and OH MY GOD YOULL LOVE IT lmao definitely gets a little wattpad-y but it’s still a fun series with great characters (my fav is Finian), have fun!!
if you like the fact that scythe deals with the idea of death for a younger audience i definitely recommend the book Without Tess by Marcela Pixley. it has kind of an imaginary fantasy element to it and just deals with that same topic of grief in a unique way that really made it stick with me
my tbr is overflowing now omg! i’m currently reading the fire and ice 5 book series, aka the game of thrones series. it might take a while lol! (most of the books are over 900 pgs and the longest book is abt 1000)
The phantom is a little difficult to read. I absolutely love the musical and the movie (I know, I know). So, I first read the book and listened to the audiobook. I realized that I had missed some big points reading it myself. It might be because English isn't my first language, but regardless. I definitely think you should resume. There are some really good moments in the book that make it in my opinion worth the read.
An Ember in the Ashes is a fantasy book that is really great and has Arabian mythological beings in it. Most of the main characters are POC. It is about a girl who is trying to save her brother from jail and has to go undercover as an enslaved servant at this really intense military academy. I would soooo recommend it. Also is the TH-camr who mentions Phantom of the Opera a lot Emmie??
im so happy you're enjoying reading! i got back into reading myself too, and writing! IM SO HAPPY FOR BOTH OF US!!! we seem to share tastes so that's nice too!! will keep an eye for the titles you recommended! especially 'scythe' and 'and i darken'! also did you know that the six of crows series has an adaptation coming to netflix in april??? im too excited about this... its going to be a mix of the duology + the trilogy (shadow and bone) that prequels it
finally, I'm crying i keep hoarding and finding good review recommended books but I've never get to finished it because i still have 3 books on progress reading
Hey Jem! When you talked about Phantom of the Opera I think you should have actually shouted out the youtuber you were referring to especially considering she's a smaller channel than yourself. If anyone was wondering I believe it was Emmie on booktube that was being referred to. :)
just came from your latest podcast episode! and YES TO BOOKTUBER JEM ALL THE WAY! i can imagine it might be stressing for you to just come up with a whole new channel for your book-related videos, so as a viewer honestly you should just...do what your heart decides to. if the video won't feel like it's marketed for me then i'll skip it or watch it with a light heart, what matters is that you enjoy what you're doing!!!
I loved a court of mist and fury when I was younger (1st and 3rd books suck) literally because the love interest was my dream man. Thinking about it now idk if I'd like it if I read it for the first time now (I'm now 21) though so maybe that's why you aren't vibing with it
the Acotar series is also not my fav but it´s defenetly worth reading. I really didn´t like the first book and he first half of the second book, but I swear it will get better. For me personally the third book is the best...
SJM is my second favorite author! the Acotar series is amazing, trust me the second book is the best haha. You should also check out Jennifer L Armentrout, she's my favorite author c:
any advice on how to get into reading? i honestly wanted to build up a reading habit, but it's kinda hard since I've been very very much attached to Anime. So do you have any tips? :/ ps: I'm an og watcher and your videos are just amazing and inspirational. stay safe, love u 💓
I'm trying to get into reading as well and my advice is just read a book that is bases or has a similar story or style as something you love like movies'shows'etc so for you I definitely think you should read some manga if you haven't yet! I adore Harry Potter and that's what got my interest in reading going because I loved the movies so much and I'm on the 3rd book which is the longest I've gone into book reading without wanting to hit myself in the head with it . I hope you can find some joy with your reading journey!
I read Lovely War toward the end of last year...it was so wonderful! I just got chills remembering how I felt reading that book. It’s definitely one of my new favorite books.
I just read a proof for a book called ‘Last One at the Party’ by Bethany Clift and it was SO good! It’ll be out early Feb. It’s set during a pandemic only a couple of years in the future but it was written before Covid hit. Basically this woman becomes the last person on earth, and she’s just a regular woman trying to survive and deal with her new life and find out who she is now that her relationships no longer define her. I thought it was such a good read!! Definitely hard-hitting and a little too close to home at times, but if you’re looking for something to stay with you long after the last page, this will do the trick!
I’m currently reading three, I just turn the mental switch for each book off when I’m not reading it and store that plot knowledge somewhere else in my brain to return to later haha
Ahhh the courage to be happy. Actually I've not read this one. There's this another one called 'The Courage to be Disliked' and I had just read like 10pgs in the library and it was so good! The whole book was in simple dialogue forms and I was just 🤯 But the lib didn't allow to borrow that book and I don't have money rn to buy it. And I don't really wanna read it from a pdf. So I'd recommend that later you can check it out maybe🤧
Nice! I Went to the local book trading shop this week to cash out and damn, I ended up buying more than I traded for. Now I have around 50 books sitting in boxes because I have no room for them on my shelves. There should be a new meme about Quarantine book nerds. Because that's me :)
i missed doing really casual sit down videos & just chatting with you guys, so i thought it would be perfect to upload a video where i really just talk about my absolute obsession at the moment: READING :') (there's a weird glitch at around the 9:45 mark...probably due to the fact that the iphone footage got messed up during the exporting stage. ignore that i cant seem to fix it lol) let me know what books u guys are reading rn!!!

The book mark in one of the "currently reading" book looks like the tis' the dams season tag from the instagram filter! I love that
As a book lover the series the lunar chronicles is a very popular book series and if you haven’t already read it you NEED to. It’s one of my favorite favorite book series.
THE RAVEN BOYS IS SO GOOD I LOVE SO MUCH AAAAAAAA

When you said that a booktuber constantly raves about The Phantom of the opera I immediately thought of Emmie haha
if you like the fact that scythe deals with the idea of death for a younger audience i definitely recommend the book Without Tess by Marcela Pixley. it has kind of an imaginary fantasy element to it and just deals with that same topic of grief in a unique way that really made it stick with me

The book is fairly different from the musical. Just an FYI

Colleen Hoover's characters usually all have wild names with no explanation lol

Hope you'll check out The House in the Cerulean Sea 📚💕

omg if u want a fast paced and book i recommend an ember in the ashes!!
Yes!! That’s on my list of books I want to read ☺️
Jem I have a question, I saw that on your other channel u had a playlist called "kpop". Did you use to be a kpop stan?
