studies show squirrels love 45 degree angles, 2014 telephone survey done in one of the largest squirrel communities in Patagonia showed that 93% of squirrels surveyed admitted "yes" they love 45 degree angles, 86% of squirrels surveyed said that 45 degree was actually their favorite angle compared to next favorite angle which is 60 degree. squirrels were asked why they favored 45 degree angles and the responses were because at 45 it gives them the optimal angle while running at the same time giving them altitude which is important when fleeing from dogs since, as one squirrel was quoted "dogs are stupid they cannot even climb trees".
FYI, the killing of squirrels being illegal is unenforceable. You as a property owner have a right to destroy any pest that is destroying your stuff or is a nuisance. The illegality is what the tree huggers want you to believe. Unless the cops are paying your taxes and your mortgage then you’re free to do on your property as long as it is not hurting anyone else or bothering anyone else.
This is false information for almost every State. If you're within city limits you can't hunt squirrels. Trust me I've looked it up extensively. I have an apple tree they raze every year despite my extreme efforts to deter them. Unless you're willing to pay a licensed exterminator of course...
Technically false, you can eliminate nuisance species out of season without limit if they are damaging your property after obtaining a permit from the local wildlife authorities. Without said permit, killing things out of season, even on your own property, is illegal and will result in fines or penalties.
Also, if you think you "own" your property then don't pay your property taxes and see how fast it's taken away. Nobody owns squat in this country. You just rent it yearly from the government. Same with your car. Don't pay registration and you can't drive it. You merely rent the right to use it from the government.
I set up my squirrel pole and kill about 2 per day for a month, now dropping down to about 1 every 2 days but works great. Your positioning of the screws is all off though. You need 4 screws for each trap, set about 1/4 apart between 2 up, and 2 down, space horizontally about 2 inches. Make sure trap is on the outsides of the screws. Very secure and moves freely. Set screw straight perpendicular to the board, and hold up about half an inch. Our squirrels were chewing the wiring in our cars, costed us a lot of money to repair. Thanks for your video.
Had some squirrels in my mother's attic. My stupid brother put a squirrel trap in the attic in the summer. About a week later my brother said "Hey there is a squirrel trap in the attic, maybe I should check it." Yup there was one mean pissed off dehydrated squirrel in it. He decided he would drive across Atlanta to his school and let it go there, thinking it would never find it's way back. Well he say a girl he knew and talked to her then went to his classes. Came back to his truck a few hours later and the squirrel was dead in the trap sitting in the hot cab of his truck.
I saw this video and it seemed to be the answer. I purchased 4 traps, got a 6 foot 2X4, set the screws per the video, and set up the traps. It has been 10 days. I have seen several squirrels run past it but I have not seen one get on the 2X4 and I have certainly not trapped any. I APPARENTLY DID TRAP SOMETHING MUCH LARGER THAN A SQUIRREL BECAUSE ONE OF THE TRAPS WAS MISSING. I am beginning to doubt the effectiveness of this squirrel pole despite the enthusiasm of the presenter.
I also just watched this video (5 years later) and tried. I had a squirrel get caught but not killed; it dragged the trap off but it wasn't too far away. I don't like the idea of not killing them instantly, but I'm not sure what else to do.
Tried three different locations for a month (unsuccessfully). My situation may be that there are thousands of other pathways for the squirrels to get up into the tree canopy. Glad it works for others though.
Using an angled board the way in which you describe really helps. The bait is important, too. I just caught a nuisance squirrel who was damaging my home following your advice. The angle seems similar to the way squirrels climb angled tree branches in trees. Thanks.
I planted a pecan tree over 20 years ago and have never gotten any pecans cause of squirrels. They eat the nuts before they are even ripe. And most of the time don't even finish the nuts. They even chewed holes in my roof. That makes them a pest
I grew up with a walnut tree, and I loved it. We never had squirrels until,...... one day, there were two, beautiful grey squirrels with fluffy tails. They could jump from tree to tree and surround our property (1/3 acre). We were helpless. And then we got Manx cats , (we always had cats most of the time but would get hit by cars, so had to renew them). And then the squirrels were down. Yes, they ate our nuts while they were still greeen , that had to be bitter, but bet they didn't have any worms.
Susan, I planted a pecan tree 20 year’s ago as well, and all the squirrels in the neighborhood feast on green pecans. Use to chase them off with a water hose until the tree got too tall.
What's the best prong setting for the Duke 110 traps and squirrels to be sure that it's a quick kill and easy trigger. I have three settings with no description of which one might be best for this design.
The 3 notches on the dog are for sensitivity. These traps were originally designed for muskrats and calm water like lakes requires less pressure to fire than a trap in a swiftly flowing stream
I use a red Ryder to keep them from my bird feeders. I aim for the butt, but the other day accidentally got one on the eye and it jumped back started spinning and laid down by the tree. I went outside to check on it and it was totally disoriented and had blood gushing from eye and died. Everyone I’ve read talking said it impossible to kill one with a red Ryder. Unless you can get an eye shot they probably right. Squirrels do nothing but cause damage.

Thera are hundreds here posting videos on different types of equipment, which further frustrates and confuses me let alone the time spent in research. Do not have the time to fine tune exactly what I want. Wish I did. Though l could buy a nice gun invariably I find, like with electric tools after using them there is a feature I wish it had or something I do not like about it. In that regard, I hate being the GUINEA PIG on equipment. For Instance in my work I use equipment from three different manufacturers, from Europe, USA and Korea and each one has features or unique weaknesses I do not like. Each time after outlaying lots of capital and only when it is in the field do I discover these limitations. Why cannot one machine have all the right features? Have talked repeatedly to the manufacturers and you get no where. So, in buying the gun cheap it lowers my expectations. Talked to the Korean guys and they barely speak English. You get nowhere.

What about Oregon laws? Also, will this work for stray or feral cats as well? Racoons? I want to go around to every damn apartment complex and public park I walk or drive past and set traps up in the trees and bushes to get rid of all strays/feral/rabid/pests/rodents etcetera. Advice?
You could use peanut butter just as easily. If you want to trap a lot of squirrels, the type of trap is the most important consideration. I've disposed of 350 squirrels since June 2014 from my backyard but most of them were caught when I switched to a new type of trap 3 years ago. The best solution to a squirrel problem is the Havahart #1083 "Easy Set One-Door Cage Trap for Squirrels and Small Rabbits" I used to use the old fashioned Havahart 1030 traps but I have upgraded to the 1083 and now have 3 of them. It also only has 1 door which makes it much shorter and I thus need a much smaller tropical fish tank to drown them in. You have to order them online, since the big box stores don't stock them for some crazy reason. This is the most humane way I have found to dispose of grey squirrels and I try and keep the water reasonably clean. The smaller tank uses less water. But most importantly 1-door traps are not only MUCH easier to set but they are also much easier to bait because the squirrel can only enter from 1 direction so the bait only needs to be behind the walk-on platform. You don’t have to “balance” the mechanism the bait sits on, thus the 1083 is also a much faster trap to bait. (My bird feeders and vegetable garden are both in the back yard and they attract grey squirrels, so I place my traps in close proximity to them. We have an Oak tree in the front yard but I don't have any traps in the front yard except in the fall.) The other great thing about this trap is that I never have any "set off" by birds. Every time this trap closes, there is a squirrel inside. The 1030 trap was frequently catching small birds, which was a huge waste of time. You will never catch a squirrel, if the trap is closed all day with a bird inside. Use cheap peanut butter for bait. And lure them into the trap with a few shelled peanuts. I then consistently take the carcass to the exact same place in a nearby woods for predators to find. I like to think this causes predators/scavengers to hunt rabbits and other small game much less frequently. I've recently discovered that possums will scavenge grey squirrels if you leave them in the same spot. I like possums, so this is a win-win for me. At night, I place mouse traps inside the closed 1083 so that only mice can get into them. (this keeps small birds out of the traps) I was surprised to discover a mouse infestation, that I was completely unaware of. The first 8 days I did this, I caught 14 mice behind our garage. email me or call with questions. devilsadvacat at gmail WRZ 2020-04-20
Used the 110 very successfully. Squirrels here are an investation. The power company used to take care of them, but changed policy. They are true pests, destroy bird nests, all our fruit and vegetables. Thanks for the video. It's not a fun thing to do, but, it's working. Thanks for a fine video.
We have tree squirrels here in the PNW strip the firewall insulation out of our vehicles every spring. My Ruger .117 works good but for long term that pole may do the trick! Thanks.
mark haney at first I was like "wtf for chickens" then I had a flashback to when my chickens ate a dead rat, not a mouse, a rat. Then I had another back to when my chickens ate a few live frogs. So I can believe they would eat squirrel meat
chickens are predatory AF!!! and cannibalistic. When we process meat on the farm I am surrounded by hungry cats and dogs waiting for scraps to be thrown their way...and among them are the chickens..... who will bitch slap a pit bull for a piece of liver.
Squirrels eating tomatoes is real! They demolished 42 of my tomato plants last year. I ended up with 3 quarts of tomatoes from all those plants. I'm going in loaded for bear (squirrel) this year. Definitely going to try this squirrel charm bracelet log. Thanks!
I used a Tomahawk trap model 103 or 102XL and I caught 14 that were in my woods, and trying to get into my attic. I drowned them while still inside the trap into a large container of water. Then the foxes eat them at night
A five gallon bucket, fill with water 1/3 of the way. Put a large stick or log, big enough for them to traverse, on the bucket and ground. Sprinkle sun flower seeds in the water. They will crawl up the log and drown themselves while trying to get those seeds. You will get multiple squirrels.
We killed 39 chipmunks in one week with the method you describe. We were overrun with those damaging little critters (obviously if we caught 39 in 1 week!). The bucket/water/sunflower seeds definitely works! I would think for squirrels you would need a much taller bucket. Couldn't they just stand up to breathe in a 5 gal bucket?
Friggin squirrels destroyed my blueberry crop, killed my strawberry patch, and killed three of my tomato plants on my patio! Humane? Fuck Humane! Now... It's... WAR!!! They're NOT cute. They're rats- RATS with bushy tails. And I'm going to start treating them like rats. The only good squirrel is a DEAD squirrel!
I had the same issue. I think it requires the trap to come down just on the squirrel's neck for that to happen. If it gets the head or chest, it will kill it. Not sure if there's any way to protect against suffocation, though.
My father used to make these. After us kids all left home he gave his traps to a watermen buddy who also has a lot of kids at home. We used to can them. With a brown gravy. Could use it for stews, pot pies, or just over rice or taters. And the thing about canning meat is it all practically ends up tasting the same so you can just tell a picky eater it's something you know they will eat. The way 2020 is going that could come in handy before long if the meat departments are wiped out like they were in March and April
We used to just cut the squirrel up into 4 pieces, after cleaning of course and cold pack before putting in the pressure cooker.. In 6 months most of the bones separate and fall to the bottom. The meat is also tenderized
I do! Get a pine board. Preheat oven to 350°. Put squirrel on pine board and put in oven. In 45 minutes, remove from oven. Throw the squirrel away and eat the pine board. It’s the same as my Awesome Possum recipe.
As many squirrels as you like in a baking pan 350 for an hour with deck project sweet chilli Seasoning with a little bit of water in the pan and cover it with tinfoil there you go

They were both awesome mousers and yes, they ate what they caught! Been here since 2010 with both of my good buddies and I believe their presence deterred even the squirrels from being near our home. Don 't need any reoccurring rodents/squirrels crawling back into my walls and ceiling crawl space. Hearing them run in walls at night to just too much. If they manage to nest in my home that's their fatal mistake! I don't piss in their tree nests so don't come here crapping, etc, in my walls!!!

@@daddywolf1364 A friend of mine had a bungalow by the river Usk in the UK, he went on holiday for two weeks. He had a store of dog biscuits for when a relative visited with their dog. Whilst on holiday a squirrel found it's way into the house down the chimney but couldn't find it's way out. The damage and mess caused by the squirrel was beyond what someone would think possible. All the dog biscuits were gone when he got back. The squirrel shot out of the house when he opened the front door!!! A mesh guard had to be fitted to the chimney pot.
Well, with the price of meat going to $30.00 a lb, people might just need those pesky squirrels and chipmunks for a food source. There is a swamp rat called a nutrient, that many folks consider a delicacy. It looks more like a Beaver without the flat tail. But if the big $ set up is coming as the preppers predict, I'd rather eat squirrel or chipmunk stew then destroy my body living for long term on freeze dried food that is loaded with assorted chemicals and tons of salt to get them eatable. And I'd take squirrel over potato soup any day.
What about normal people who think killing 40 squirrels to protect a single tomato plant is disgusting? ..or are you one of those monkey-brained yokels who think nobody cares about animals except PETA?
I used to love squirrels. I adored them. Then, I decided to have chickens in an area infested with them. Constantly in their feed and eating all of the fruit off of every tree changed my mind. One day I saw one struggling to get free of a trap, and stomped on that fucker with my boot and didn't even feel bad about it. It's funny how you can change your opinion over time when you see for yourself the damage they do. They also dig in every goddamn potted plant.
Most states have a legal trapping season, if they have a hunting season. Up to you to comply. If you depend on your garden.... well you get the moral idea. Childerns' full bellies are more important than squirrels or illegal laws...
@@debrakslate9541 Same with Massachusetts. There is no bag limit for pest control. It is however illegal in Massachusetts to catch then release. A trapped squirrel must be humanely killed. In my area we have a serious issue with overpopulation of grey squirrel. They caused $5000 worth of damage to my home. In one season I trapped and destroyed nearly 100 of them.
So, what to do with the carcasses. I used to bury them, but that got too tedious. Then I discovered that our suburban foxes are not averse to scavenging. So I just tossed them into a woodsy corner of the yard where they were gone by the next morning. The foxes are welcome visitors, as are hawks, owls, snakes and any other predators that target rodents of all kinds, mice, chipmunks, squirrels, rats, you name it. These little suckers are destructive and relentless procreators, and need to be controlled. The bleeding hearts need to find something else to focus they compassion on, say abused little kids, wounded veterans, or something like that.
These are legal in California, if they are used to trap destructive (crops, buildings, maybe landscape) squirrels. Pretty sure that they are illegal for hunting them. Catching skunks is nasty.
What's funny about your statement is the fact that the police state works because people have become totally ignorant of the difference between illegal & unlawful. Learn about Common Law and take back your rights, tell the would be tyrants to get lost and live free again.
There are a lot of species that are attracted to peanuts so how do you know in advance you wont be killing some other animals in addition to grey squirrels ? I'm also curious what you are doing with all these dead grey squirrels if you don't eat them ?
I don't have any experience with these traps and so I ask the following: Does the squirrel try to run thru this on his way up and then get snagged by it or does it work some other way?
Yes, he will run right through it and the trap will snap and will kill him instantly. He won't feel a thing. I've never had a squirrel not killed pretty much instantly with these traps. Very humane and no suffering.
The jaws rotate and are under spring pressure and the wire you see hanging is a trigger. When the squirrel brushes past the trigger. the "jaws" of the trap rotate the opposite way either killing it by broken neck or back, or on larger traps and animals suffocation or drowning (beaver). These are VERY effective traps...especially at instantaneous killing of smaller animals.
+SwampCritter - you are pathetic, guys like you always have to try to make this about 'survival' there is no need to kill defenceless animals, you have plenty to eat without that. It is too bad the law of natural selection does not apply anymore - you would not have survived until low, you are obviously deranged
Great point to point out checking your state laws on this. If I’m killing squirrels I’m not wasting them. They go into the frying pan and the tails for making fishing lures
I went to jail for culling the hundreds of whitetail deer here on my own property. They're like cockroaches. Nothing I can do about it now except shake my extra-loud maracas at them! It does scare them off, but they're back the next day.
Do you have a similar but more humane trap for a stripper pole where the first stripper gets caught towards the bottom and subsequent strippers get caught higher up? It would be prefferable if male strippers were electrocuted. Thx.
Joseph Fairlane I've had this recommended to me from people at local hardware/garden stores so who knows! Also there's a reason coyote season is year round (at least in Cali) so I'm guessing squirrel would be similar?
Interesting video though I disagree with "things are illegal because they work". You must be able to guess at some of the dangers of hooking a car battery up to a pond, throwing grenades or any other banned fishing method. Could ruin the ecology of the whole pond or kill half of it right off. And with this trap, I'd feel uncomfortable setting them without monitoring the area closely as there are some protected species of squirrel, it could also kill woodpeckers and other animals that like to climb beyond just field mice. But this is a good survival technique.
on the ground. they're "rat" terriers. and though they may not be aware of it themselves but they dont have wings or the ability to climb trees lol i had a JRT who was amazing at vermin control but squirrels always managed to escape her teeth. ON THE OTHER HAND...... I had a carolina dog that had ten times the brains of every terrier in the world. She figured out how to work with the cats... by watching their every move she knew when they were on the hunt. they would tag team the squirrel.... it would see the cat stalking it in the distance and prepare to run...but before it could get to the safety of its tree there would be a cat waiting for it at the base, so it would run for the next tree - which of course meant the first cat would get it before it could reach safety.... cue the dog. For weeks we couldnt figure out how she was catching them but my husband actually got to witness the spectacle early one morning.
Squirrels are just rats with long fluffy tails as far as I'm concerned. They will ruin all the fruit on our trees, and if they just ate the acorns they wouldn't bother me. But they don't - so they need to be cleared out every year.
Alexandria Agopian "they only eat what i give them" so if you gave them more they would eat more. Also I have NEVER IN MY LIFE KILLED A SQUIRREL. The squirrels in my back yard eat the pecans on my tree, the peaches on my peach tree (which btw i have never ONCE got a peach from because they eat them before they're ripe) torment my dogs, snap twigs off my trees gnaw on my roof and drop pecans on my head (which they also eat before they're ready) i have tried everything to keep them from doing all of that yet time and time again they do it. I'd rather not kill them but at this point it's more economical to do so. They're greedy hoarding treerats that eat whatever doesn't eat them first.
unless you're an idiot you shouldnt have to be told how much trouble a single squirrel can cause....they will get up inside a vehicle and chew the wires and cause massive problems.... potentially deadly ones inside a house....if they ever decide to unite it will be a Squirrelpocalypse. and yes they are rats. they're in the rodent family, they have many things in common.....the grey squirrel native to the US has taken over England and are driving the native red into possible extinction. they're aggressive furry locusts.
A large trashcan with water in it placed under a tree works well just make sure there's nothing in the trashcan except water and place the trashcan under a branch that won't support the weight of the squirrel.

It'll be illegal in some places as it's indiscriminate, also it doesn't necessarily kill without undue distress to the target species, it might catch very well, but often leaving a number of animals in severe pain and alive for an extended duration, fine if you're on hand to immediately dispatch any catch that isn't killed.
Canadian terminal dive studies with this trap says they are very Humane with average asphyxiation times of less than 2 minutes. The dimensions of the trap are 4.5" x 4.5" and we have found a 3"x4.5" trap causes the strike bar to hit the base of the skull instead of the neck so the squirrels are knocked out before they succumb and the struggle is non existent
This dude seriously hates squirrels! 40 kills for one tomato plant? I have trouble imagining that I could kill enough squirrels ... I'm thinking squirrels will just move in from farther away until I clear my whole neighborhood. Actually, maybe that would be a good thing. Maybe I'll try it for a season and see if I can keep them off the cabin without new ones climbing up. Does it work on chipmunks too?
Using a car battery to fish is extremely effective, but that's not why it's illegal. It's illegal because it kills indiscriminately making it impossible to follow legal limits.
I mentioned that I wasn't going to kill a squirrel just for the point of the video. So the example I did was just on that small 2x4. I hope that makes sense.
A 2x4 is a.pretty wide platform. If you are concerned about non target catches use a narrower board . Squirrels will run up a 1inch wide board as readily as a 3.5" one. I use short notched pieces of garden hose foe a trap stabelizer
I ordered those metal traps. Just know they are extremely hard to set into place and are actually dangerous if you don’t know how to set them properly. Just my humble opinion.

It may not sound like much but I made more shooting than the army paid. Of course that wasn't much either in the 60s.
If they're illegal in your area or you don't want to kill them the Squirrelinator can catch up to 25 at once for you to transport to another location. It also has a kill trap accessory.
studies show squirrels love 45 degree angles, 2014 telephone survey done in one of the largest squirrel communities in Patagonia showed that 93% of squirrels surveyed admitted "yes" they love 45 degree angles, 86% of squirrels surveyed said that 45 degree was actually their favorite angle compared to next favorite angle which is 60 degree. squirrels were asked why they favored 45 degree angles and the responses were because at 45 it gives them the optimal angle while running at the same time giving them altitude which is important when fleeing from dogs since, as one squirrel was quoted "dogs are stupid they cannot even climb trees".

Anything that starts with "How to kill squirrels" will always get a watch and a thumbs up from me!
Right on brotha! 💯
@@brandondowning6243 no wrong again, there is nothing illegal about killing squirrels on your property! No permit needed for squirrels!
You CAN take a battery fishing, as long as the battery has a “current” fishing license.

I've tried to be nice with catch and release. Squirrels have ruined my garage. 20k worth of damage. I'm not going to be nice any longer.
These traps have taught me that squirrels (tree rats) don't swim well at all...
They should probably require passing an intelligence test before people in the krracker states
are allowed to purchase a wildlife trap.
It's not like they're an endangered species.

I live in Detroit. Can I use watermelon as bait?
We kill, consume, and destroy everything around us.
What does that make us?
I plant nut trees to bring the squirrels in. Nuts are fine, but fried squirrel is way better! 🐿

@@kennyc388 No need to be mean. You are wrong most sensitive setting is the WEAKEST snap.
The 3 notches on the dog are for sensitivity. These traps were originally designed for muskrats and calm water like lakes requires less pressure to fire than a trap in a swiftly flowing stream
Have been vexed by squirrels more times than I can count. The time they got into my attic was enough to drive me crazy.
I use a red Ryder to keep them from my bird feeders. I aim for the butt, but the other day accidentally got one on the eye and it jumped back started spinning and laid down by the tree. I hate squirrels for the reason you gave. They're out of control in my neighborhood, no roaming cats or dogs to get'em.
We have an Oak tree in the front yard but I don't have any traps in the front yard except in the fall.)
The other great thing about this trap is that I never have any "set off" by birds.

Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living Is there anything that you can spray on your tomatoes to keep them away? Maybe Google has an answer.
Eww. Eww eww eww. I will not spray anything on my tomatos but water. If the squirrels don't want them, nor do I.
I used a Tomahawk trap model 103 or 102XL and I caught 14 that were in my woods, and trying to get into my attic. I drowned them while still inside the trap into a large container of water. Then the foxes eat them at night
Give them nuts and they stay away from your tomatoes.
A Benjamin Marauder .25 cal PCP works great, too! :-)
Put some antifreeze in that buckett they love that more than seeds.
Would this work for flying squirrels also? If so what size trap would I need?
Friggin squirrels destroyed my blueberry crop, killed my strawberry patch, and killed three of my tomato plants on my patio! Humane? Fuck Humane! Now... It's... WAR!!! They're NOT cute. They're rats- RATS with bushy tails. And I'm going to start treating them like rats. The only good squirrel is a DEAD squirrel!
LOL
i tried this but felt really bad because the 110 did not kill the squirrel, it was suffocating the poor thing. Was there an issue with the spring?
Rotfflmfao
We used to just cut the squirrel up into 4 pieces, after cleaning of course and cold pack before putting in the pressure cooker.. In 6 months most of the bones separate and fall to the bottom. The meat is also tenderized

I'd much rather have 40 squirrels in the freezer than all the tomatoes on the planet.
Pretty sure most states allow homeowners to handle pests on their own property without a license. This is a kill trap so keep out of reach of pets.
These are VERY effective traps...especially at instantaneous killing of smaller animals.
it is not humane - you killed them because they were eating a few tomatoes - you are disgusting
is it inhumane to kill rats just because they get into your house
+SwampCritter - you are pathetic, guys like you always have to try to make this about 'survival' there is no need to kill defenceless animals, you have plenty to eat without that. It is too bad the law of natural selection does not apply anymore - you would not have survived until low, you are obviously deranged
I guess I’m a little confused... do you use no bait and they just run through and hit the trigger?
You don't have to use bait but if you smear a little peanut butter on the trigger, that works too.
They always leave me one green tomato, thanks for the idea!
How do I find those?? Where how much???? I'm desperate
The fish battery thing is illegal because it can also kill protected species that are at risk of extinction.
Yea like pink elephants that walk in peoples yards at midnight. What kind of protected species are in your yard?
You can use conibear traps during squirrels season but they must be 6 ft. off the ground.
Great point to point out checking your state laws on this. If I’m killing squirrels I’m not wasting them. They go into the frying pan and the tails for making fishing lures
😂
You are to much ! LOL!
Thx.
xzxfin120965 Where are all the crazy snowflakes? How come a squirrel or rat pole is inhumane but a stripper pole isn't?
Ordered mine today and can't wait to get this family of squirrels that have been munching on my vegetable garden.
Did you roast em?
We're lucky to have several mating pairs of Red-Shouldered hawks in our neighborhood, and they seem to keep the squirrel numbers down naturally. :-)
I live in MO. They do not care if you’re feeding yourself.
I use an antique .22 varmint rifle and some cheap plinking ammo. Works fine.
Whatd you do with the 40 dead squirrels?
The Punt Gun.
When the SHTF, those Canadian Geese better watch out.
Dean Logan lmao fr
Everything is becoming illegal nowadays.. i just found out that they are making potato chips illegal in california
Rat traps work also. Drill it to a tree, bait with peanutbutter. Probably illegal also.
Joseph Fairlane I've had this recommended to me from people at local hardware/garden stores so who knows! Also there's a reason coyote season is year round (at least in Cali) so I'm guessing squirrel would be similar?
City to Farm Every place is different.
I have found peanut butter very effective rodent bait, no joke, it just works.
@@johndoe4783 I've killed a few with them already and if not...I hope I injured them and they die later
Could have shown how the trap actually works. Shove a stick in it?
Interesting video though I disagree with "things are illegal because they work". You must be able to guess at some of the dangers of hooking a car battery up to a pond, throwing grenades or any other banned fishing method. Could ruin the ecology of the whole pond or kill half of it right off. And with this trap, I'd feel uncomfortable setting them without monitoring the area closely as there are some protected species of squirrel, it could also kill woodpeckers and other animals that like to climb beyond just field mice. But this is a good survival technique.
Where are you from? So what state are you in?
Have you ever tried using a Jack Russel Terrier? They are breed to kill rodents. Just an idea
on the ground. they're "rat" terriers. and though they may not be aware of it themselves but they dont have wings or the ability to climb trees lol i had a JRT who was amazing at vermin control but squirrels always managed to escape her teeth.
Emily Pollifax I have seen a jrt run straight up a tree and get a squirrel.
How do you set the conibear?
Squirrels are just rats with long fluffy tails as far as I'm concerned. They will ruin all the fruit on our trees, and if they just ate the acorns they wouldn't bother me. But they don't - so they need to be cleared out every year.
Try putting a sheet of metal around your trees, you'll never get them all cleared out.
Scott Schubbe - squirrel is a "Good" meal
You are a moron. Squirrels are not rats.
unless you're an idiot you shouldnt have to be told how much trouble a single squirrel can cause....they will get up inside a vehicle and chew the wires and cause massive problems.... potentially deadly ones inside a house....if they ever decide to unite it will be a Squirrelpocalypse. and yes they are rats. they're in the rodent family, they have many things in common.....the grey squirrel native to the US has taken over England and are driving the native red into possible extinction. they're aggressive furry locusts.
I found that the 110 traps don't always kill the squirrel, so now you have a injured squirrel to dispatch. The 220 traps work better.
City folk must have loved you killing those squirrels.
A large trashcan with water in it placed under a tree works well just make sure there's nothing in the trashcan except water and place the trashcan under a branch that won't support the weight of the squirrel.
I use a Havahart model 1083 EZ set trap and then drop the trap into a slightly bigger tropical fish tank,
so that I can keep the water clean without wasting too much.
I usually clean the tank after every 10 grey squirrels.
Local tropical fish clubs are a good place to find used fish tanks.
Yeah if you consistently leave the carcass in the same spot, scavengers will begin to look for them there.
It annoys me that people make squirrel trap videos without suggesting a worthwhile use for the carcass.

So what there rodents? Woos
Have you ever inadvertently killed a cat with this trap? I want the squirrels gone but not my neighbors cat.
Cats do horrendous damage to wild bird and reptile populations. I want your neighbors cat gone too.
Did I miss it? Why didn't he show the finished pole?
I mentioned that I wasn't going to kill a squirrel just for the point of the video. So the example I did was just on that small 2x4. I hope that makes sense.
I wasn't expecting to see dead squirrels but the pole finished and in the place it would be used.
Do you bait the boards?@@Anamericanhomestead
A 2x4 is a.pretty wide platform. If you are concerned about non target catches use a narrower board . Squirrels will run up a 1inch wide board as readily as a 3.5" one. I use short notched pieces of garden hose foe a trap stabelizer
If you need target practice, a pellet gun works great. If you want to have laugh, put a slinky on the bird feeder pole. Good Video.
Slinky becomes a nice little ladder for the tree rats i have round here.
I ordered those metal traps. Just know they are extremely hard to set into place and are actually dangerous if you don’t know how to set them properly. Just my humble opinion.
The spring breaks in after repeated uses and becomes easier to compress.
The reason it's not legal in some states is not because it works, but that it also works on pets.
Then it is not a worthy pet. 😅
I'm pretty sure trapping get without bait is legal in most states as long as you follow your bag limit regulations
Why would you want to kill squirrels? Uhm, because they TASTE AWESOME??
Raycefan my wife says, "I love squirrel brains and eggs"
@Tommy Salami she's from arkansas where the toothbrush was invented. If it were invented in, say, Iowa it would have been called the teethbrush!! Actually my 66 year old wife still has all her teeth and there still beautiful, me not so much. Lol
@Tommy Salami small world . her step brother taught ag at the U of A. Me being from Iowa and moving to Arkansas my senior year of high school and lived there for probably another six years before marrying and moving to Utah. I always will be impressed at the humility and kindness and honesty of the Arkansas people having delivering newspapers for 2 years while in college. I can only remember one person that stiffed me for my $4 monthly subscription. Memories , time flies
I was stationed in San Antonio. Pecan orchard owners would come to find country boys that could shoot. They would provide transportation, rifle and ammunition. Most paid 25 cents per squirrel. It may not sound like much but I made more shooting than the army paid. Of course that wasn't much either in the 60s.
If they're illegal in your area or you don't want to kill them the Squirrelinator can catch up to 25 at once for you to transport to another location. It also has a kill trap accessory.
They learned to lift the spring door right away, so they get the bait and leave. Tried weighting the door, no luck.
So you want to have someone else have your problems.
You can buy coniber holders on websites to for cheap instead of the big screws .
