Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v.
Underwater video Gopro3plus.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.

The best part about long distance sailing is when you stop in a marina and have showers and unlimited sleep and restaurant food and air conditioning and a bunk that doesn't move and freedom from constant worry. But without the uncomfortable sailing that preceded it, there would be no appreciation of all that and there is great satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from voyaging.
Great to see you starting out on this lifelong dream! Enjoy the adventure and take care!

Add a Campden Tablet (Sodium metabisulfite) to a gallon or so of water and wash your fruit and veg with that. It kills bacteria and yeast and apart from being used by home brewers, it is frequently used to preserve fruit during shipping. You can repeat this every couple of days.
You gave a great piece of advice: "Take care; calm down; and think about what I'm doing."

We share the same dream. Today it was 20 years 5 months and 20 something days since I decided to sail the world. Though I still have nearly 10 years to go until I plan to leave (April 2027), I feel even more strongly about my dream as the 1st day it all started for me. Vids like yours only fuel my passion. Nice video and the shower at Cape V I get👍. They say a good sailor can leave port with new T-shirt, a new dollar in his pocket. Sail around the world and arrive back in the same port with the same T-shirt and dollar in his pocket. It never worked for me.
In some ports, spreading broken glass across the deck at dight was one way to reduce the worry sleeping at night in port, some ports. I was always armed with several stashed and hidden about below decks. Sweep the glass up in the morning and save it for use later on. Thanks for the vid, sailor!👍😎

I’m so happy for you to be able to fulfill a childhood dream! I have a dream of sailing my family around the world. Until now I kind of thought it was a pipe dream. But after watching your videos I feel like it’s something we can actually do. We just bought our first boat and are starting our learning curve. Hopefully after a few years we will have amassed enough experience and cash to begin our own journey. Thanks for being such an inspiration!

You don't have to worry about bugs in the fruits and vegetables, when they're fresh, only afterwards. Rinsing them off, will also accelerate the ripening, and rotting.

We are both o'l duffers with much the same interests. I like steel sailing vessels and actual ocean sailing. The main difference between us is that you do it and I'm still thinking about it.....sigh. Thank you Barry for making your sailing videos interesting.....

Thanks so much for your share not only the video, is the sansation that invited me to follow my dreams for passagemaking, just few days ago I had have the opportunity to saw another veterant seaman doing this but between France to Azores, now I awake from the many years dreaming with my chance to do it but both of you push me to decide to go now.
I hope the winds and sea bring me the opportunity to cross with you soon some where where winds blow in way of the big seas way to.
Is plenty that I need yo learn to but I´m on the way following you and other great sea people that are sharing expereinces by videos is much easy to move forward, finally go is doing that.
