- Many times employers get back a negative dilute drug test result and are often confused. What does it mean that the specimen is negative dilute?

When the lab reports a specimen as dilute, there are certain levels of creatinine and specific gravity that determine that the specimen may be dilute.
This basically means that the donor consumed a larger quantity of water before providing the urine specimen. This may be normal as many folks drink a lot of water for health reasons or because of a fear of not being able to urinate at the time of the drug test specimen collection.
This may be abnormal as perhaps the donor is drinking an excessive quantity of water in an attempt to cheat on the drug test. So there is a little bit of “gray” area concerning specimens that are reported as dilute.
First and foremost, if the report from your Medical Review Officer is Positive Dilute, the result is Positive and the company should follow policy for the Positive result. The indication that the specimen was dilute may be interesting, but it is not relevant to the handling of the positive test result.

Ive been crying for 2 days straight. They told my my first drug screening was diluted. So i skipped my birthday weekend so that i wouldn't even have alcohol before the test the next morning. Then i held my pee all night and took it first thing in the morning. Mid stream, no water, first pee... and it was STILL almost entirely translucent. Ive never done drugs in my entire life. And now i may lose the job of a life time all because I can't potty right?!
Sister I feel you my urinalysis was for a pre-employment for armored truck driver for a certain company and I called my recruiter and she said most likely I will be disqualified for employment because it came back diluted which means I was tampering with it which is total bull crap😢

did you ever think that maybe the person drinks a lot of water because they are told to by the testing facility? maybe they aren't trying to hide anything. we tell people to drink lots of water, because we don't want them there for four hours trying to pee.
That’s what happened to me.. i had my interview.. right after the interview was finished they sent me to a testing place literally a mile away.. I get there and can’t piss.. so I started downing waters.. it’s bullshit

I drink a lot of water for health reasons and had this happen to me. I always get negative results so this is the first time it's happened. I don't do drugs and am trying to be healthy so this was upsetting. I re tested this morning so hopefully it's not the same. If it is I lose my job over drinking water

I eat keto, fast 16 hours a day, exercise an hour a day. During my fasting time i drink nothing but water. Therefore drink a lot of water during my waking hours. I am not a small gal; 5"11 & trying to lose over 75lbs, i drink the recommended "half your body weight in ounces" shit. I just did a random for my job, the lady in the doc office made the comment "so what? You drink a lot of water?" I do. I had 3 ladies eyeballing me the duration of my visit like i was scamming everyone. So now I'm wondering if I'll have to make a second appearance. Bastards lol

Mine was pre-employment screening. It's been hanging over my head all weekend. What if they cut their losses & move on to another candidate? Fortunately, they accepted the result as a negative. I start next week.
Only wish I knew about this issue before testing. I would've preferred to drink a normal amount of water. But I thought I'd fail if I didn't produce a sample.
I got fired after 2 negative diluted results, my second test I had them watch me pee into a cup to prove it's not tampered. I worked for the government.
@Qeastioneverything nope they made me take the second test 5 days later, even though there policy demanded I'd have to take it the next day. It makes no sense at all.
It's still a pass depending on company policy, my job had me retake test only second time nurse was in restroom with me.

I had the same a dilute negative waiting on HR to call me im just very fit and love water.
I got a negative diluted test and had to retake it. Now just waiting on the results. It might be a negative dilute again because all I drink is water ! 🤷🏿♂️

Joe Reilly in a probationary drug test if you test negative dilutted you have to test again the nxt day , if it happens twice its a fail. I have never had a dirty UA but i have had 3 diluted negatives that caused me to have to retest, i got a dilutted from drinking a big coffee and no water before the test and from juice.

Depending on the situation, a negative dilute can be treated as a dirty test or at the very least, the individual who submitted the diluted sample will be accused of trying to conceal drug/alcohol use and will be punished without cause despite the dilute being unintentional. There are individuals being incarcerated over this on a regular basis so before assuming a dilute isn't a big deal across the board, take time to look at the bigger picture. Having a urine sample flagged as a dilute is easier than most would think.
@Jonathan Puga I'm hoping you immediately got a hair follicle test shortly after the dilute (hair follicle tests can go back as far as 90 days). It's the best way to prove you were clean at the time of the urine test.
I’ve had two inconclusive tests and now I have to take my third drug test tomorrow. Won’t be drinking water before the test this time.
How ridiculous. My new job asked me to take a 2nd drug test because the first one came back Negative Dilute… I live in California where it’s 100 degrees everyday and live a healthy lifestyle so I drink water. If this 2nd one comes back negative dilute I’m scared they might think I’m hiding something. Ive never done a drug in my life.

Only the lab ones do, if a company just uses there own products which they bought those urine jars with a test strip already inside the plastic jar then there’s no way to see if it’s diluted or not. It’s only a lab tested sample that can tell if it’s diluted as they test how much proteins n natural waste is in the sample. There is no way u can tell on a drug testing kit that a company may of bought n do the tests themselves to save cash. I learnt all this as I had a negative result at my Drs today which is why I’m searching about this. I’ve been on OxyContin for 12 years after I was blown up whilst in the army, I was shocked to see a negative result n initially thought the tester kit must of not been produce properly n the kit was faulty somehow. Then I had it explained to me that it could be what they call a “false negative” I then had to have blood taken n that sent off to the lab. All kinds of stuff was going thru my head like I hope they don’t think I’ve not been taking them n selling them on the streets or something. So I’m glad they r doing a blood test. Apparently the best way is taking a hair sample as it will show up but it’s expensive for the company, Then there’s the saliva test which it’s totally easier to test negative with but u need to search the internet for that trick. So basically wot I’m saying is if it’s in house urine test not going to the lab the drink freakin loads of just water for 2 days, try n stay low on taking anything u may be on & the test results will probably result in a negative.
@@marcs990 You make me so much more confident i took Methadone and Ritalin once on a Friday never tried it before, and I have been just been drinking straight water and tea and juice. Nothing but pure water comes out. AND the drug test im taking won't be at a lab.
@@elliottalks1897 let me know how you get on, my only concern is that you have been taking Methodone which has a much longer half life, how long before you take your test? Is it being done by your workplace & they have got a 3rd party company in to do the testing? I know when I had mine done it was like a minor medical checkup. They did a hearing test, eyesight & mobility tests such as bending down n raising your arms above your head etc. Then had to wee in a plastic container. It would of been really easy to fake the test anyhow because all they did is hand me the bag with the plastic container in it n said wee in that n I will see you in 20 mins to do the rest of the test so u could be really sure if u could get a VERY good friend to give u there urine in a sterile container n take that to work with u n then u just pour his piss into the container they gave u, the thing u have to watch out for though is that depending on how long it is before u have ur appointment that they want u to piss into the container as if it’s not warm enough they might get suspicious. Also u need to be SURE that the person giving you a sample hasn’t taken anything themselves. So u need to think of a way to warm up the urine like putting the container in a cup full of hot water for a few minutes to get it warm enough. Can u get back to me about the above so I can advise you better. I used to work for one of these companies as I was a JTAC in the army but also a highly trained medic so I got a job as a male nurse n u get to learn stuff over the years so plz let me know. Thanks 😊

I took a drug text 5 days ago. I couldn't pee. That had never happened to me before. They told me I could only drink 3 and half cups of water. I still couldn't go. I Snook a couple of cups when she went to her car because I didn't want to be there all day or come back. I don't to drugs or drink. I hope everything go well tomorrow.

Yes. Positive diluted means it’s diluted but they still found traces of drugs

I haven't smoked in months but last night I did smoke a couple of hits with some friends and was pulled over and had to do a pee test so I guess my question is how long until the thc would into my system to be able to come up my test

I got pulled over got super nervous I have ptsd of COPS started sweating was accused of cocaine or speed, told them take my blood pls. got arrested car got impounded got taken to hospital piss test negative COPS got upset told them again take my blood they did got held in jail 2 days for lab results and just released not even a answer or explanation, I understand why it happened just sucks lost my job because of it

Determining the validity of a urine sample with regards to a dilute is dependent on two things: 1. Creatinine level and 2. Specific gravity. The normal creatinine range is between 20 and 400 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). In diluted urine, the creatinine level is between 2 and 20 mg/dL. As for specific gravity, a “normal” urine sample would have a specific gravity level between 1.002 and 1.030, where as if the urine is diluted, the specific gravity is between 1.001 and 1.003. Basically, if you drink water on an empty stomach after you have already had your morning pee, the chances of a dilute from this point forward would be very high. It's best to eat a hearty meal and drink something more dense than water (milk, protein shake, tomato juice) at least two hours prior to drug testing. Employers as well as the courts are going to eventually learn the hard way that unintentional dilutes occur more frequently than most would think. People are getting screwed over by being falsely accused of trying to "cheat the system" when in fact they're simply just trying to provide a piss sample in a timely manner.

WHAT ABOUT WOMEN WHO ARE BREAST FEEDING AN INFANT THROUGHOUT A SEVERAL MONTH SCREENING SERIES AND THEY ARE DRINKING AS MUCH WATER AND JUICES AND VITAMINS AS THEY CAN TO PRODUCE MILK?

I wonder if ur medication u are taking can cause a negative, positive drug test, because, somehow I am having problems with my drug test showing up posi for a benzoates, an t.h.c an I have not took anything like that, now I will have to go to jail for that,somebody no anything about false drug test
