The C-130 Hercules element of the FWTF is provided by No. 40 Squadron RNZAF. The Squadron is equipped with a total fleet of five C-130 Hercules aircraft which have recently been upgraded to the C-130H (NZ) following a Life Extension Programme (LEP).
The C-130 aircraft conducts strategic and tactical air transport tasks including the deployment and transportation of personnel and equipment, support to NZDF exercises, aeromedical evacuation, to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. They also provide a range of support services to Government and the community, including the United States Antarctic Programme.
No. 40 Squadron provides six C-130 crews, usually of six personnel being a pilot captain, co-pilot, air warfare officer, air engineer and two air loadmasters to conduct directed tasks after bringing the C-130H (NZ) aircraft into service.
Fleet History:
The RNZAF currently operates five C-130 Hercules. It took delivery of the first three Hercules (NZ7001 - NZ7003) in 1965. These were the first C-130H production models off the Lockheed production line. A further two C-130H, (NZ7004 - NZ7005) were added in 1969. The aircraft have undergone a modernisation and structural improvement programme to ensure that they last until 2015.

That is one of the most useful aircraft we have here in NZ. They are buying new ones. I wrote to the minister Ron Mark suggesting we keep these older ones and turn them into fire fighting water bombers. I got no reply. They will get nothing for them and in recent times we have had 3 major forest fires and also in Australia. with big water tanks they could do in minutes what it takes people on the ground weeks to do. Mr Mark got voted out last month. good.

+Hotwheels car collector 98 All planes with reverse thrusters can, especially military aircraft in quick evac situations. Commercial aircraft don't use it except to slow down after landing as there is a high possibility it will cause damage.

Awesome video. Was there for the first time this year and already looking forward to 2018. The Hercules was one of my favourite displays. Couldn't believe how quickly they could pull up after landing and then take off again.
Cool video. Love the herk it's sad to that its coming to the end of its life (the RNZAF is going to start phasing them out in 2018 or 2020)
+Toby Corbett Thank you!! I wonder what the replacement will be. They will probably stay with American made but the C-17 line in California ended last year.
MiJiT HD Yes. Another Plane that could be the Replacement is the European Made A400M. Its a lot like the C-17 But with Turbo Props instead of jets.
Toby Corbett Yes indeed, but I feel they want to upgrade to turbofan engines, and Boeing is in the design and testing phase of another transporter to take over from the C-17.

Beautiful Vid! The C130 is one of my favorite war Transporters (and that's not because the Austrian army have it. :-) ) the sound the technic what you can do with this aircraft is quite impressive. I really enjoyed watching it! Thanks for sharing!!
