    Excellent point! When I’m tired, frustrated, etc, I tend to make more mistakes. Sometimes it’s better to walk away. Even if only for a few minutes, take a walk, whatever. I find it usually clears my head and makes for less rework.

    That part about working when you’re feeling inspired or when you actually want to do the work really resonated with me.
    I did my second and third refins at the same time and I just wanted to get them done at that point. They look awful up close but I still love them.

      Heck yea! If it works then it works! Perfect is great when we can get it. But sometimes, good enough is just that.

    Really good job personalising your Chickenbacker.
    Very interesting to see.

    The tune that you're playing in the background while assembling the guitar sounds a little like "hey joe"

      Wish I could do it justice. It's just me humming really. You know how it is when you just follow melodies in your head.

    My only suggestion is this. Almost all Chickenbackers have notoriously short neck tenons, this one included. Not a huge problem on the 325's, but a major one on twelve strings. I've always glued a block at the junction of the end of the tenon and the back of the neck pup, does wonders in reinforcing a potential problem area.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was thinking the same thing. Using the pickup as a sort of brace.

    • @news603redux
      @news603redux ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@breilly66 Not so much the actual pickup, but the cavity. Take a half inch by half inch block about 2-3 inches long and epoxy it in back, joining the top of the tenon and the back of the pup cavity {like a gusset}. Two part epoxy works great - you don't need wood glue because everything is painted or cleared {you're not joining bare wood}. Once that cures, your neck is going nowhere.

    That was cool. I just bought a Chinese version of the 330-12 so maybe I can apply some of your thoughts to it.

    Hey man! love your channel. I’m in a small amp-phase myself and your vid on the vox helped me decide which small vox to get.
    This because i wanted a nice pairing for my chickenbacker 12! got it from a luthier who did a fretjob on it, added grommets, made a bone nut and changed the tailpiece to the trapeze one. What mods would you furthermore recommend doing to it? I flipped the bridge on it so the thick strings are on the correct side, i’d like to change the pickups to creamery toasters since the gemini pickups are hard to get. Do you prefer toasters or hi-gain pickups on your chickenbacker 12?
    Keep up the good work! also enjoyed the line 6 wireless vid since i’ve considered going wireless for a while now

      Hi gains for the win! I love a 12 with enough signal to really merge the octaves and give it that glue that the Byrds had going early on. As far as further mods it sounds like you are ahead of me. I've been updating a chicken 12 but am stuck waiting on new tuners. That's the next upgrade on mine.

      And absolutely on the Creamery brand. I had some of their humbuckers on my old motsumoku les paul. Unrivaled. Made the antiquities sound cheap. Thanks for watching, Berend. Send up a vid when you swap them out. I'd love to hear it!

    I love building partcaster, relicing them, building them the way I want them to sound. Why pay thousands of dollars on a custom shop when you can achieve that yourself.

    What do you mean about satin/matte finishes being nitro finishes in disguise?

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically the Gibson satin or worn is a very delicate layer. Super easy to damage so the wood still breathes/cures and starts looking the part nearly immediately 😊

    • @ramsilva
      @ramsilva ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@breilly66 yea, I figured that about the Gibsons but you mentioned fenders too. Are they doing satin nitro finishes right now? Or do you just mean satin poly finishes are thinner and therefore allow the guitar to resonate more, almost like nitro?
      Haha sorry if I’m reading into a throw away line 😅

      @@ramsilva All good! It's a bit of both with the Fender Lacquer series being a very loaded and "awesome to be" model. Also the highway one a d road worns have some very interesting options

    What band are you in? Always looking for fun shows around town.

    • @breilly66
      @breilly66  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welp.... I was previously in The New Kinetics, Schizophonics and a few other ones but currently am playing with Shake Before Us, finishing my first solo record titled "The Film Company" and doing sessions around town.
      And I've been pretty fortunate in the company I keep.
      Thankfully, I've been doing less of the session stuff (started getting stressful) and started playing out more again.
      I'll be sure and give a heads up as the next was scheduled for Oct 10th but was scrapped. Used to be I'd be doing over 90 shows a year with multiple tours and acts. These days, not as much.
      Which at this point is good for many reasons. 😌
