I can't imagine why anyone would say ugly things about your hand stitching. And as for speed. Honestly? NO ONE is like Bernadette or Morgan! The rest of us are NOT speed demons!! It's awesome that you posted this one this month, because I am doing some of the pattern embroidery type mending on a shirt for my niece.
Watching you mend got me to finally get up and mend a skirt that’s been languishing for at least three years. All it needed was a button hole end fixed and three buttons moved lol. Thank you for sharing your work and for helping me finally get that skirt wearable again 😅
As a loom weaver, I was very impressed with your woven pocket patch. Great job! Great idea to fix the backside with fusible interfacing. Weaving is faster than knitting but slower than sewing.
Theres something so satisfying about mending things to make them last longer - I've had many many RTW pieces from old navy (house dresses and pajama pants) whose lives were greatly extended by patches until eventually (10 years or so) no patch could save them and my husband encouraged me to let them go. Little does he know I actually save the bits that aren't completely disintegrated for future patches! 😂😂
It's always nice to see Watson again, but I remain intrigued by the Hobbit shorts. I love when stuff like this ends up becoming a loved part of my wardrobe. Good vibes.
Alexander Henry fabrics are being discontinued due to the owner passing away in May IIRC, so I wouldn't be surprised if people are increasing the cost. I have always taken so long to do anything. Getting ready in the morning, homework, creativity projects, etc. I think it's my AuDHD presenting itself. When my mom did alterations for people (she retired this January at 71), one of her big moneymakers was patching jeans. That reminds me that I have jeans that need patches. The dreaded thigh rub kills mine every time. My mom helped me make our first-ever witch hat last weekend! Did it entirely from scratch. I have a few things I'll change for the next one, which will hopefully be patchwork velvet. Now back to watching the weather because I'm in a tornado watch. 😅
It was so encouraging to have someone with a long list of things to mend. I don't feel quite so ashamed.😊 I do enjoy these general chatty and bits and pueces videos with you. Its like sitting in the corner stitching in your company. Nice! I'm currently enjoying the Lady Hardcastle Mystery series and rewatching The Expanse.
Mending chatty videos are a special moment in my day to do mending. I have been procrastinating to get through. When your videos come up like this, I am not alone in the mending. I do not like mending. With you I do what I do not like and it gets done. I then have more to wear, again. Thank you, Noelle. 💚💚💚
Love the denim shorts mending. So cute. And so was the kitty. Packing for our whitby goth weekend trip. Just hope i remembered everything. Other half changed their outfit 3 times this week. Hopefully they've now settled on what it is.
I'm also job hunting! And knitting with my library's Crafting Warmly project to provide winter weather gear for people experiencing homelessness. It seems like such a small thing but is the only energy I have to help support the community in the wake of the election.
I enjoyed this and knowing that you are getting better. I missed any explanation of the Ranch in your nun adventure, so I giggled when I finally understood. :) The stitching on your shorts has made them wonderful!
Sacred Order of the Hidden Valley Ranch Nuns... oh I would love to be part of that order. Keep on stitching... the more you do hand stitches the easier it becomes!
I love the way the mending on the denim shorts turned out! I've got a couple pairs of cropped knit pants (one pair of which is about as old as your hobbit shorts) that have been colorfully patched to all get-out, but I haven't incorporated any decorative stitching yet- it looks really nice on yours. I really enjoyed watching a mending list get a drastic decrease- stars know that *my* mending stack seems to be ever-increasing these days, since it's much easisr to throw a smaller knitting project in my bag so I can feel a tiny bit productive if I knit while catching up with Taskmaster & other youtube subscriptions while in transit or waiting (and I'm spending SO much time in transit or waiting these days). I was working on one of those smaller knitting projects while watching this at home- making some mitts for my brother's girlfriend, and I'm hoping I'll have enough yarn to make them into convertible mittens. the yarn is a lovely deep red in a wool/viscose blend, and I have a sinking feeling I'll be playing yarn chicken for the thumbs.
I am glad you were able to rescue favourite clothing and reinvent them. I ewas able to do it with some of my clothes when i lost a lot of weight but not all of them. I still morn my sparkly jeans but they were just too hard to alter. I am finally finishing the sweater i started 2 years ago when i decided to move, the one with 500 plus stitches in many coloured patterns. I finished knitting it a year ago. Then i had to cut it open to make the front button bands. Then it went into a basket again until i could deal with the armholes. I now have the first sleeve in and about half of the 7000 colour changes threads dealt with.
I had a pair of Jean shorts like that… I patched from behind with fun fabric and lace bits layered. The sashiko is genius! I also used some cheesy vintage appliqué patches and did some embroidery to make it look like years of repairs. I LOOOOOVED those shorts and then lost a ton of weight and even with a belt, gravity was winning. I hope someone else loves them now :) ETA: Woman Of The Hour is good on Netflix! EETA: oops, sorry about no Netflix :)
I'm just watching Mythbusters reruns while mending my wife's jeans and marveling at the weaving magic of jeans where you sew over navy blue ones in pastel blue thread and it becomes invisible.
I really like this style of video, I get the feeling of someone 'hanging out' with me while I sew without someone in my space or getting in my way. Also video's are way less taxing on my bandwidth than video calls with my friends so I need to be selective when I do them
You inspired me to finish some mending I had, which I did, and a few days later wouldn't you know I found two more items that will need some work. Guess I can work on that while watching your next vlog!
I adore the visible mending idea (especially when it involves some sort of embroidery or crochet work) and that dragon material is way too stinking cute!!! My niece wears through the knees of her pants almost as fast as her parents can buy them, so I’m looking for cute ideas with mending. I may have to get a speed weaver for both me and her (the child needs to learn how to mend her own clothes for the times I can’t). As for shows, I cannot recommend Ghosts highly enough, both the American and BBC versions. The latest season premiere of the US version had me, according to my mom, giggling out loud more than I have in a long time. 😂
Yay chatty videos! I could take even more chattery like no fast forward footage with music just all chat ^^ Don’t feel bad about being slow with projects. I haven’t finished an 18th century men’s undershirt (aka pirate shirt) for my husband that I started last year. I mean I finished it and it didn’t remotely fit-I botched some measurements(body easy to baggy and arm width too small. Seam ripped it all, and haven’t put it back together properly yet x,x My first pair of light weight linen split drawers (3years old now) is covered in thread bare spots and full blown holes from so much use. I’ve patches portions with medium weight linen.. At this point it would have taken less fabric to just make a new pair than constantly patch it x,x I also have a pare of full length jeans that I’ve worn at least 2000 they might be as old as 1998. They have holes from literal decades of wearing/rubbing. My husband gave up a pair of jeans that don’t fit so I patched the largest holes with denim from his and am very slowly (and poorly) embroidering over the patches. Not hiding them but like.. the first patch (I am still working on it) is a woods fern grown out from behind the old denim so I’m kind of embracing that it’s a patch, it is visible, while also trying to secure the raw edges a little? I’m crap at embroidering and not following any patterns just doing whatever because I can. I kind of hate it now and want to rip out and redo it a different style, but then it would just never get done
Hello friend. I love the term "pocket friend" because I now imagine you with miniature Abby, Morgan, Nicole and others tucked into pocketses of hobbit shorts! So fun. (Yes, I am easily amused and entertain myself with random weirdness} I finished the Hapi coat mock-up for my son's Christmas gift, making notes on the pattern about the things I need to pay better attention to on the final version, as well as an assembly change I believe will result in a sleeker finish. I made progress on the Coquelicot skirt I told you about, and it is probably 2/3rds complete; it's hanging currently. Oh, and a sledgehammer, a hammer drill and I took out the fireplace hearth base in a house we're remodeling. Sounds like a lot, but it's been several weeks since I last wrote. Sorry people were unkind about your hand sewing. Be well!
Love the chatty videos! It's great to sort of vicariously catch up on your life. :) My second book for the year came out at the beginning of the week, and now I'm done publishing for the year because I have major surgery in December. LOVE THE HOBBIT SHORTS!
I’ve been sitting here knitting a blanket and just about finished it while you were doing your mending video and totally enjoyed it and it gave me ideas for how I can do some mending, thanks. Have to say I really enjoy your videos!😊
Yeah, love your hobbit shorts. Thought the weaving was cool, I've heard about those little guys, but never seen one in action, a far cry from the floor looms used to use!
yay, Noelle! Always great to see and hear how you costubers are this awesome friend group living their best lives :) Thanks for the video, loved the creative mending solutions, the jean short look great! Took to mending while following along, fixed my son's trousers (ripped at the knee, kindergarten is rough :)) ) and seam-ripped a whole bunch of stitches from the hem of my favourite rainbow shirt. Tried to fix it three times already, didn't work (hemtape, handstitching, machine stitching). Looking for a solution to knit fabric rolling up wrong side out. I might end up crocheting a lace edging to attach to said shirt as I need to keep its length too, or even make it longer :)))
8:19 girl I'm slow too 😂 but i excuse myself for my slowness by telling myself that the point is enjoying myself, and if i have to rush or speed sew i will no longer enjoy it. Enjoy yourself!
Nicole, I love your Hobbit shorts! Is there a pattern that I can purchase? If yes will you tell me what it is? If it's already in the description, I sincerely apologize. I have been annoying by not checking first. This chatty video is so fun. I love that you seem to be feeling better 😊 Lots of love, Audri
Yay, classic workroom vlog! I've been missing this 🥰! I was wondering who made all the white kurtles 😂. I need to get my solo dress wearable by Sunday (I've been working on it for 2 years, but there was a long time-out). I can totally do it, it's just piping and sleeves. 🤞🙏
I'm making a super simple blanket. I need to put the binding on. The top is a Winnie the Pooh colored velour, and the bottom is a yellow, black, and brown camo knit fabric. It's soft and surprisingly heavy. In other news, still trying to build strength in my legs and feet. I keep defaulting to old habits in dealing with a bad back, now, whenever my feet or legs hurt, with mixed results. As it gets colder, my back gets crankier. Fortunately, I got a new mattress warmer/pad, and it feels fantastic on my back at the end of the day.
I LOVE the Gastlies! I used an older version in a quilt for my sister. Worked a quilt for my dad while I watched your video. Have you heard about nicotine for Long Covid? There have been studies using nicotine patches and I have a friend who tried it and says it has really helped her. Glad you're getting to enjoy Agatha. I finished it last night. Loved it! Lillia's tarot episode is my favorite. Making a cross body bag for my mom for Christmas and writing SO many things. I had 2 fellowship applications that were due in October, one of which was a surprise, so I was a busy bee. Starting a new writing project November 1. To the end
Always make extra buttons! Repairing stuff is the way forward. I haven't had much time for anything lately, as I just got a full time, permanent teaching position in grade three. Love the kids, but it's exhausting, lol. In the evenings, I have just about enough brainpower left to be knitting them all hats in their favourite colour(s) for Christmas.
I live like 10 minutes from the Cracker Barrel where you went I love that one the people are absolutely wonderful I so wish I could have came and met you and all your friends I watch all of them on TH-cam it would have made my highlight of my day maybe the next time you come in town I would so love to meet all of you maybe even do a short meet and greet at Cracker Barrel
awesome stuff, you got lots done love, hopefully back to stitching and creating more for me soon. kinda hard to have projects happen when there's lots of reno being done in a small house lol but the major items have been mostly tended to, atleast till next spring😃
I have been working on a minor repair while on a business trip. And I wish I had my speed weave with me it would have made the repairs so much easier. I have a special fondness for ORF. My husband and I met there a very long time ago.
Heading to VA to spend the weekend near Charlottesville and spending the day at Montpelier Hunt Cup Races ( horses)driving Jockeys back and forth from the barn to the paddock
The variegated thread (rainbow) looked like what we called 'darning thread' in the old days. It always came wrapped that way and accurately described as something between thread and yarn I really liked that little machine to weave on. I could really use that for mending and darning, which I do alot to save socks. Somehow I wear out the heels of them often. How are you going to work w/long covid? Have you looked into Social Security Disability? You may qualify for it. There is alot of paper work and your MD or MDs will need to help you. Also, there are lawyers who specialize in helping people get benefits. I didn't know your husband was out of work as well. I am sending you positive thoughts, energy and hugs!
I hope it's cool enough for you @ Faire (if it were me, I would try cooking ice packs under my clothes (or frozen water bottles, like snappy Dragon did), but, I, of course, have no idea what's realistic or feasible for you. Watching you get through your hand stitching inspired me to do all my prep work & settle down to my own "mending" (handstitching an adjustment to a pocket). So, thanks for that!
I like chatty mending vids 😊. Your cat is wonderful! does she have a little white chin? I finished watching all of star trek enterprise. Took a bit to get into but i did end up feeling the 'click' and really enjoying it ✨ im 50/50 on the ending 🤷♀️. Even though T'pol was excellent Hoshi ended up being my favourite character ❤. She was fascinating. I still can't believe enterprise managed to back-hack original series Klingons into being something interesting and poignant. I'll definitely be rewatching several episodes. Glad i didn't give up on it 👍 Im just getting over a sinus infection 🤕 but ive used my time in bed to try knitting colour work with multiple colours on bobbins for the first time ever. Its going really well. Take care of yourself Noelle! With chronic illness the best time to slow down is *before* you get exhausted. (Something i still need to regularly remind myself!)
Genuine question: would what you did to the jean shorts technically be boro? Just using sashiko stitching? Regardless, I really enjoyed this little catch-up. Hope you’re continuing to recover from your trip and excited to see what you decide to do next!
It was about 70, but considering I had come from 103 in California… it was pleasant. My pals said the year before on the same weekend it was upper 50’s and raining!
So I checked out your Amazon shop and looked at the sewing essentials section. So I have seen you use the electric calving knife to shape a dress form and I presume you use the ice pick as an awl but what part of sewing requires a binocular wrack? 🤔
I think the speed part of speedweave is in comparision to mending holes in the old fashioned hand weaving way. I have tried, it took me hours to patch one hole :( I am slow but like yikes
Good video but it just reminds me of how much mending I should be doing!! I’m not doing much to time off to listen to the Honor Harrington series by Webber. I was spending too much time doom scrolling US politics. Yes I realize that I just switched politics to the star kingdom. It’s a good series and way more fun than doom scrolling! I really should be paying attention to Canadian politics but the US stuff is now. For something completely different a friend convicted me to buy house plants. She’s a bad influence lol my black thumb and I are now trying to keep them alive. Oh and where to put them so I don’t forget about them. Someone should invent a thing that allows the plants to scream when the soil needs water for people like me! Everyone else in the house is either vocal about food or able to feed themselves.
I actually love watching people stitch, or crochet, or sew, or knit. It’s relaxing.
Oh good!
Yeah, I'm not alone!
Same!
Love the idea of a little packet of dress repair items. You always have the best tools and ideas!
Thanks so much!
I hope she loves it. ❤
Oh that’s so kind of you! I hope she loves it!
Watching you mend got me to finally get up and mend a skirt that’s been languishing for at least three years. All it needed was a button hole end fixed and three buttons moved lol. Thank you for sharing your work and for helping me finally get that skirt wearable again 😅
So glad I could help!
So glad to see the other half of the Ranch Nun story 😊
You were all such cute nuns. I was totally jealous 😇
partially because I love Ren fairs
Thank you!!
As a loom weaver, I was very impressed with your woven pocket patch. Great job! Great idea to fix the backside with fusible interfacing. Weaving is faster than knitting but slower than sewing.
It is indeed not a fast sport!
That’s pretty smart!!
It's always nice to see Watson again, but I remain intrigued by the Hobbit shorts. I love when stuff like this ends up becoming a loved part of my wardrobe. Good vibes.
Such good vibes!!
Re: the Speedweave- Katrinkles makes a fantastic darning loom if you aren’t a fan of the ‘zon. Multiple sizes too!
I love videos like this interspersed among your other videos. Motivation for dealing with my own UFO list 😊
Yay! I’m glad to hear that!
I only have a couple ufos but MANY an item in the mend pile
@asiabryant207 as a mom/family manager, this is me too
Make. Extra. Buttons. This is terrific sewing advice.
It was so encouraging to have someone with a long list of things to mend. I don't feel quite so ashamed.😊
I do enjoy these general chatty and bits and pueces videos with you. Its like sitting in the corner stitching in your company. Nice!
I'm currently enjoying the Lady Hardcastle Mystery series and rewatching The Expanse.
Never feel ashamed of your mending pile! We all have them!
Love how your short patching turned out!
Thank you! 😊
I'm really loving the trend of visible mending. You knocked a lot off of your list. Well done, you!
Thanks!!

Love the denim shorts mending. So cute. And so was the kitty.
Packing for our whitby goth weekend trip. Just hope i remembered everything. Other half changed their outfit 3 times this week. Hopefully they've now settled on what it is.
I am awful about mending but those Speed Weavers are super cool. It would actually make mending fun.
It really does!
Love a good mending video :) Also I am always here to watch, and rewatch, all your videos. I love the chats while I'm doing things 😊
Glad you like them!
I'm also job hunting! And knitting with my library's Crafting Warmly project to provide winter weather gear for people experiencing homelessness. It seems like such a small thing but is the only energy I have to help support the community in the wake of the election.

Knitting a Lucy Hague 'illuminated' wrap, hand sewing a viking style shirt for my son, listening to Patrick O'Brian....again.
the quilt is gorgeous

Glad it was helpful!
Looking good, chica! Safe travels!! 💚
Thank you!!
Dude! Isn’t Agatha fun? I tried to get Darla to dress as her for Halloween this year, but she’s doing Caroline. Still cute.
I’ve been sitting here knitting a blanket and just about finished it while you were doing your mending video and totally enjoyed it and it gave me ideas for how I can do some mending, thanks. Have to say I really enjoy your videos!😊

I just loved this entire video!! ❤❤❤
Think about stitching the extra buttons into the seam allowance. You will always know where they are!
yay, Noelle!

Love the kids, but it's exhausting, lol. In the evenings, I have just about enough brainpower left to be knitting them all hats in their favourite colour(s) for Christmas.
Omg you are so sweet 💖 making them all hats!
Yay major stuff done!!
I have been working on a minor repair while on a business trip. And I wish I had my speed weave with me it would have made the repairs so much easier.
I have a special fondness for ORF. My husband and I met there a very long time ago.
Awww that’s so sweet!
Heading to VA to spend the weekend near Charlottesville and spending the day at Montpelier Hunt Cup Races ( horses)driving Jockeys back and forth from the barn to the paddock
I hope your trip was super fun!!
@Costuming_Drama it was -General Laffayette and George Washington were there also - beautiful weather and nobody was hurt
The speed weave is awesome for darning and fairy cheap to get ahold of! I got mine on Amazon!
@@Costuming_Drama Thanks so much!

Yay prep work! And it was about 70°, so, tolerable.
@Costuming_Drama hooray for tolerable! 😀
Glad i didn't give up on it 👍
Im just getting over a sinus infection 🤕 but ive used my time in bed to try knitting colour work with multiple colours on bobbins for the first time ever. Its going really well.
Take care of yourself Noelle! With chronic illness the best time to slow down is *before* you get exhausted. (Something i still need to regularly remind myself!)

I NEED HOBBIT SHORTS - they are reminiscent of Folkwear's Edwardian drawers, which I am currently rocking for shorts
They are so comfortable!!!
Genuine question: would what you did to the jean shorts technically be boro? Just using sashiko stitching? Regardless, I really enjoyed this little catch-up. Hope you’re continuing to recover from your trip and excited to see what you decide to do next!
😘🍄
I used to live in Ohio and loved the Ren Faire…. All the times the late hubby and I went I don’t think it was ever cool. Hopefully you didn’t melt
I would assume it was something else and then the shop owner switched out the item…. I didn’t even know they made racks for binoculars. 🤷♀️

Currently knitting a Highland Cow for a Christmas gift. He’s adorable - I got the pattern on Etsy if anyone wants to see it.
I think the speed part of speedweave is in comparision to mending holes in the old fashioned hand weaving way. I have tried, it took me hours to patch one hole :( I am slow but like yikes
When you showed the jean shorts I was going to vote for the pink plaid behind the rips and just stabilize them, but ok sashiko wins....
Hahahaha I did consider that!!
Hello❤
Hello 😊
Just reading The Other Ancient Civilizations by Raven Todd DaSilva (aka dig it with Raven) and the new Jodi Taylor short story anthology.
I love Jodi Taylor!
@@Costuming_Drama have you read the new book about Smallhope and Pennyroyal yet?
