This is BY FAR one of the BEST B-ROLL clips I've seen yet - no unnecessary background music, long clips showing full takes, and even some of the fun they had on set...BRAVO!
Making movies is so damn interesting from the screenplay to the props to the costumes to the cinematography to the post production process of editing and mixing audio. This industry is so cool.
This is all during filming meaning no post production has been done. It would be like watching a video of them making the original star wars and all you see is people flying little toy models around on strings. You cant judge a movie by that. I loved this movie!
Remember, what you see here is filmed with normal cameras, this is not shot with the super expensive cameras they use for the movie, therefore it gives the "homemade" feel you talk about. And, probably half of the movie is CG, which means a lot of the "magic" happens after all the raw material is shot with the actors. This is movie making, it doesnt look like the finished product from the beginning.
It's sort of amazing how good they can make movies look with post production editing and shooting at 24 fps. I think the 24 fps is very important for the "feel" of a movie and the reason why I'm not a fan of 48 fps film.
Watching this actually gave me some interest in the movie. It looks like they actually tried to do a lot of stuff with actual explosives, effects and (gasp) acting.
That guy has nothing to do with cinematography... he's a camera operator. Cinematographers are the people who light up the scene, put on filters for lenses, decides which lenses to use, decisions on depth of field, stuff like that.
*Just came back home from watching Elysium* *opens laptop* *watches behind the scenes* *Sleeps* *wake up* *REPEATS yesterday's agenda* ELYSIUM: 5 STARS OUT 5 STARS
The DP and camera operator are two different positions in most American (higher budget) film productions. That is however not the case in countries like Germany where the DP in many cases also operates the camera, even on high budget films. Here however we definitely watch a steadycam OPERATOR at work who has most likely been told what to do.
personal opinion.I think this movie is better than the district9 one, I mean District9 got me a bit bored, just trying to watch a guy that got infected and see him becoming this type of alien .(in real life, i dont think humanity would be sharing the same planet with other species) thought I have to say CGI was crazy awesome. Asylum is a bit overplayed kinda script, there has been a few movies similar to this one. (Battle Angel: 1993 Jap Anime by Yukito Kishiro/Upside down by Juan Diego Solanas
It's a camera helicopter for ariel shots, not part of the scene. You can see the ball gimbal in which the camera is mounted in front of it's nose. However, the piloting is no less impressive.
Well... He has to write it first. right now it will be: Elysium, Chappie (Sci fi comedy) then District 10 OR another film he's writing OR something else. He does have an outline for D10
similar content, wealthy people departing from earth poverty to become their own race while people on earth wishing that some day, they too will make it to the promise land. I have always been fascinated about this type of stories, what would happen in the future kinda type of movies. I recommend this, I wasn't expecting that type of movie. I thought it was going to be a Star trek spaceships galactic type, i wasn't going to see it. I sore of lost my taste for MD since the Bourne Trilogy he hasnt
i wonder how many and also what kind of DsLRz they used for the action fight scene!?!? that looked like 40 of them and maybe Rebels? or 5D markiiis or iis.... who knows if u do then let me and the other person below me know too.....!! gosh darn it dag nabbit!!
So let me guess- the bad guy commits a series of heinous acts of violence against the good guy, then the good guy somehow commits even a greater act of violence to kill the bad guy. The end. American cinema needs an overhaul. Am I the only one getting very tired of gunfights and beatings? Cool BTS footage though :)
its funny how most movies look completley silly now days before they add in all the cgi and fx back in the old days what you saw was what you got for the most part
He hasnt done anything good, UNTIL NOW.. I enjoyed it lots. i think my 10 bucks I payed for the movie was WELL worth it. its been a while since I last said that a movie was worth my time and my ten bones. plus another 20 including the popcorn and coke.. lol...

This industry is so cool.
I like that some of the editing is shown too. And wow, custom working guns, mech gear, equiptment, vehicles, superb
Is the cameraman trying to get out of a bed of fireants?
Impressive copter scene at 5:42 ... and the scene is REAL, becuase is a scene of the making!
Oh my god! Look, how many cameras were there when they fight?! Btw, love this movie and Matt^^
It's really cool how they make things look so not bullshit when the movie comes out
I love when we see the free dimensional video aka Free-D effect being used during the fighting scene. I learned.
Yes, that is what I say, that is something real, a scene of the making of the movie.
This is all during filming meaning no post production has been done. It would be like watching a video of them making the original star wars and all you see is people flying little toy models around on strings. You cant judge a movie by that. I loved this movie!

haha 3:03 how to act when your boss is looking in on you.
that quote "experience vs talent"
whoaaa
Who needs a virtual UI performance when you have the good old slapping the keys technique.

11:36 - cinematographer of the year
Does Matt Damon crack a joke after every take, he must be the most fun guy to work with
This movie is going to be awesome.
Watching this actually gave me some interest in the movie. It looks like they actually tried to do a lot of stuff with actual explosives, effects and (gasp) acting.
AWESOME MOVIE !
This was a pretty cool movie.
That's how almost all movies look before post production.
It's so fantastic movie !
what is the guy holding and doing next to the camera operator with a knob. wireless device of what purpose.
That guy has nothing to do with cinematography... he's a camera operator. Cinematographers are the people who light up the scene, put on filters for lenses, decides which lenses to use, decisions on depth of field, stuff like that.
11:39 the camera man hit the other guys camera lmao
*Just came back home from watching Elysium* *opens laptop* *watches behind the scenes* *Sleeps* *wake up* *REPEATS yesterday's agenda*
ELYSIUM: 5 STARS OUT 5 STARS
11:38 is my favorite part!
really! sweet mother that film was a let down, the bloody trailer was more thrilling to watch
And that is exactly why this isnt 'crap'.

What’s with the array of DSLRs 14:30 ?… :-O *gasp* BULLET TIME SEQUENCE!? *giggles in excitement*
the camera man at 11:35 was earning his pay!
He's written about 16 pages for it, but he has another movie he wants to make before it, called "Chappie"
Ok, now release the DISTRICT 9 SEQUEL!
watched the movie it was awesome!
lmao i thought he killed the guy for real at 12:58 before i realized it was a puppet.
Every movie needs more "Snoop Dogg" :D

Yea, lets judge the movie through a "Behind the scene" perspective. Seems really fucking smart.
it has some cut scenes or deleted scenes
blomkamp said it wont be coming out for A WHILE
Please do see it. Its not the best movie ever made, but i enjoyed it very much.
We all know that Kruger's going to steal the show.
PRobably something you should watch AFTER watching the movie..
It's a camera helicopter for ariel shots, not part of the scene. You can see the ball gimbal in which the camera is mounted in front of it's nose. However, the piloting is no less impressive.
Focus pulling with a wireless follow focus
this is what movies look like when they are being made...-__-
That is a remote follow focus.
Well... He has to write it first.

10:18 Kruger double on the left.
Nice
I mean, if you close your eyes and listen to it...
Did you expect him to say "That's a mothafuckin wrap, nigga"?
People say airsoft guns are toys, but they use them in movies all the time and no one can tell the difference between them and real guns. 7:30
Good
plz bring the district 9 the sequel...elysium i like to be there....
Wow that is some ridiculous shaky cam at around 13:50. That's gonna piss me off when I watch this movie.
Have you ever seen how movies are made before?
Yes, yes I did.
That's because you're watching footage filmed with a camera not used to film the actual movie genius.
its funny how most movies look completley silly now days before they add in all the cgi and fx back in the old days what you saw was what you got for the most part
Correct.
DISTRICT 10 PLEASE
11:32 fight scene had to be inspired by the zero gravity fight scene in Inception
Gtfo

I really doubt that they are cinematographers.
Why? The story was complete as far as I'm concerned. Taking it any further would be anticlimactic.
I don't think this is crap.
11:45 battery bump.
farcry????
You replied to a troll.
the movie is cool. but has some logical flaws which bug me
Max dies in the end
Hey people...don't pay any attention to ursul-dumshyt. He be a lyin muthuh-phukuh. They just want to game you down.
