The first time I saw Kevin play solo, was on the Tonight Show. I don't even remember the year, but it must have been at least 15 or more years ago. My mouth just fell open, as note after mellifluous note began to fall upon my ears. It went far beyond any experience I'd ever had before, listening to a guitarist. Kevin's genius is that his music reaches down deep, penetrating the soul; reaching a place untouched, somewhere unexpected, visceral and pure. Thank you Kevin. Thank you.
Don't Get Down on yourselves guys this man right here has been playing more years than i've been alive. so really this is an example of pure dedication to true craft in human culture. What I think the Public should know right off the bat is that Kevin Eubanks in my mind is one of the best Jazz Guitarist this decade has seen and yet is underrated. Its a shame jazz isn't as mainstream as it was once was.

Saw him in Newport Beach at the Hyatt in 2010... He was playing in an acid jazz trio... they got to moments of total ecstasy time after time ... totally improvised. Best player I've ever seen live. I've seen many ... no one as wild and unfiltered. Listen to the end of this video. Crazy.

Yes...it is very, very, very good. He's obviously very talented. I agree that the popping and snapping gives it a real unique sound. It kind of reminds me of a cross between a bass guitar and acoustic guitar. I definitely am impressed.
If you're lucky enough to find these tabs is because you know Kevin in person!! Read the video info, it says "Kevin performing an improvised acoustic jam", so I guess dude you will need to do it yourself but is quite a challenge if you get it done. Then comes the challenge of playing like this!! This performance is the result of a whole life of sudying, precticing, personal effort and gifted from God talent mainly. I'm pretty sure this is based on the track "Thought About Thinking" from the Opening Night CD. I've got 5 of his 6 GRP CD's from 1984 to 1989 (a friend had the missing CD). There's some great playing in there, both by Eubanks and his band members.

Kevin's a master, very well respected by his peers, and has more than enough in his inventory of extremely structured and well planned compositions. Is it OK for him to 'let loose' now and then? I think so... Personally, I found this improv to contain as much heart/soul as technique.
This is ridiculous. I can hear blues, rock, jazz, and classical, all interwoven so flawlessly. It's also the first time I think I can say ive seen someone legitimately 'shred' while fingerpicking on an acoustic. What's the tonight showing doing only having him play during the commercial breaks? They've got it backwards.

I don't think so, to me it sounds more like he's playing segovia-style with his thumb (no nail/thumbpick), so it probably just gives it that nice classical tone. I could be wrong though, just my two cents.
It sounds as if he is using a combination of nylon and steel string? is it possible? lower notes (E A D) sound nylon, high notes, (G B E) sound steel string

I also am a former Ted Dunbar student and I can hear his influence on Mr. Eubanks' style. Fabulous guitar work.
