Man it's never late to learn hacking. It's technologies and technologies change every fu**** day so no one can pretend to be an expert in that field for a long time. I mean even true experts never stop learning. It took me only 1 year to have a decent level in web sec so why couldn't you do so ?
any knowlege that you gained previously in any web related work is very important if you want to get into AppSec, InfoSec, Pen Testing, if you train now you will be able to get a job within a year, hacking is the accumulation of previous knowledge you had before, its just a different mindset from building stuff, its mostly with how can i break this or what if i test with these edge cases, and you need to have that knowledge from previous skills and experience you gained before. Im 34 and im want to get in AppSec because security interests me, im a backend dev and i find that wont take much time since i've had experience in these topics of web application security. If you were for example trying to become a chemical engineer then that would take some time because its a different field , but you are already in the field, think of it as picking up another front end framework: Angular, you wouldnt say , well im 31 and too old. As a matter of fact most of these hackers pentesters you see they suck at programming and could get past building a complete application front to back.
