      Yep

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      Indeed. If I recall correctly, he was just an ordinary Woad Raider with name and stat changes using scripts, his purpose being a nod to the historical phenomenon of mostly Christian ascetics living as hermits on the many islands far into the ocean from what is now the British Isles. I suspect someone decided they were going to have Aethelfrith be in another campaign, so they created the hero unit, and then decided to replace the Lonely Hermit with it since it didn't hurt to do so.

      @@genericpersonx333 That's an interesting point, I had heard that many Christian monks from Ireland would set sail into the Atlantic and settle as far as Iceland and Svalbard, but I never knew they sailed that close to the Americas.

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@TheAmericanPrometheus Well, to be fair, they didn't so far as we know. That Lonely Hermit was representative of the ones who made as far as Iceland and others, not North America proper. Sorry if I seemed to imply that as that was not my intention.
      Mind that the mission Vinland Saga is not a historically precise one, but rather an abstract mission derived from a legend, so the Lonely Hermit is not actually in North America, he is just far to the west on his own little island that is beyond familiar waters. We know Norse made it to North America, since we found their remains, but the Vinland Saga is not necessary telling us the story of those Norse who actually made it to North America. All we know for sure about the Vinland Saga is that it was a story, possibly fictional, being passed around many generations after the supposed time of the events being described by the Saga occurred.

If you do level them up their stats gets pretty juicy in the later stages. Jadwiga especially gets a regeneration speed so fast she basically regenerates faster than she takes damage, making her extremly hard to kill.

    It's very difficult to say just what William Wallace means to Scots. I remember playing his tutorial campaign in AoK and, accents aside, thought they'd done a great job... except they didn't have his claymore then, he just looked like a champion. Not all these people are heroes, but Wallace really was. Without him, the Scots would have been lost to the most tyrannical king known to England. Which Braveheart did get right. Whilst many of our families are now cross-border, across generations, back then, if not for Wallace, we would all be speaking with an English accent, have lost Gaelic, and lost Scotland as a result. This is why his monument stands in the middle of our country at the gateway to the Highlands, and I can see it from my window. War is terrible, but humans like Wallace remind us how precious freedom really is, and it is worth fighting for. Alba gu brath 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇺🇦

Vikings liked these sort of names, like you can see from King Erling Crookback (his spine was bent), King Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye (his eye had a weird mark), and King Harald Bluetooth (rotten teeth). The river map at the start of this video I know there is less room but it would be great to see some random maps like it maybe allow some grass machete cutting for some units and river crossing make stones to walk over maybe for cheap

    You missed a Robin Hood Unit. Friar Tuck. He was in the original game from the map editor as a hero monk. The problem was that if he picked up a relic, he would turn into a normal monk.

    Something I would have loved to see would have been a quick secondary top 5 for heroes that are the 'best' for the situation at hand.
    There are a few that have lower stats, but absolutely roll the enemy with them because of the nature of the campaign mission they are in; easy example would be (though I wouldn't know where to rate her) Joan, who has mediocre stats for a hero but she's mostly killing men at arms and archers.

    Now I want a mod that allows you to create your civ's heroes. Obviously in this mod, all wolves would be changed to ornlu the wolf.

  • @iwersonsch5131
    @iwersonsch5131 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'd argue that Archers of the Eyes and Hunting Wolf are pretty solid Hero units when adjusting for their lower scarcity. Once you have 6 AotE, yes they take up 6 population space, but they're better than a lot of single heroes aren't they?

    • @magesticalmysterium6856

      I actually Buffed the Archers of the Eyes, and for personal Preference, changed their Sprite to a Archer, while also making them attack marginally faster

    Before Hidden Cup 4, T90 set up a "tournament" between the different heroes participating in the event, and Admiral Yi took down a Cobra Car one on one. Definitely think you're underrating the Admiral here.

    Genghis Khan is certainly one of my favorite units. Being the only Cav Archer that can just wreak havoc with 25 attack from a distance, it’s like taking Wallace, putting him on a horse with bow and letting him go ham. It’s pretty crazy.
