- Fineliner pens are a staple in every illustrator and artist's toolbox, but surely all fine liners are not made equal. Among the many contenders for black fineliner art pens, is the Sakura Pigma Micron pen series the most reliable technical or waterproof art pen you can get? We test out the Pigma Micron pens on Ligne Claire art, fine line illustration, and even stippled lettering to put them through their faces. Watch to see what we found.

Imo the best is faber castell. It’s the only one whose lightfastness I 100% trust.
Thank you so much for this. We've not used or tried the Pitt Artist Fineliner pens yet, so your recommendation definitely adds it to our list.
Have you found some of the other brand inks to be particularly fugitive with light exposure? Always good to know since all three of us here finish plenty of work with fine liners.
@@inkymemo Sakura would be my second choice, but they don’t claim their pens are lightfast, only “fade resistant” and “archival,” which leaves plenty of wiggle room. I’m sure they’re good, but after 100 years in the sun maybe not. Faber Castell is the only one that uses India ink, with carbon black pigment that is extremely lightfast.
Ah, we weren't aware of the carbon black usage in the Faber Castell pens. That certainly gives it the edge. Thank you for the tip.
