I hate slow books but I often try to push myself through it to see if it gets better. In the case of The Last Magician, I'm very glad I did!! It is so worth it!
I saw Scorched on your classics shelf and I have to say that I loved that play. I also had to read it for college but it was such a pleasant surprise. I wish more people knew about it.

I have a similar system to you actually, I have three shelves each with an overall theme and then shelves within those dedicated to a specific genre. All the books are then author/series order apart from my contemporary books which I put into a mini rainbow this year and i honestly adore it!!
While I haven't read Scavenge the Stars, Tara Sim's other work, the Timekeeper trilogy, is one of my favourite series of all time. So it's probably fantastic.

Just beware of stacking books on their sides, especially hardcovers, since it causes a lot of pressure on the spines and can lead to spine breakage :/ I learned this the hard way when I stored my books on their sides in stacks DX

I recommend keeping Song of the Crimson Flower! It's a nice, short asian-inspired folklore story that is just easy to read and atmospheric. I read Scavenge the Stars and I was so excited for it (since I love Count of Monte Cristo), but I really didn't like the book :/ I only gave it a 2 stars.
I noticed you move most of your books to the front of the shelf, rather than shoved to the back. Is it an aesthetic choice, or is it something to do with keeping the books in good condition? I feel like I’ve heard about it, but I can’t place my finger on the reason. Thank you from a new subscriber!
I see you have the newest Christopher Paolini book. I loved the eragon series in junior high. I think he wrote that series as a teenager though and hasnt written since, but then just came out with this new book out of nowhere. If you've read if can you do a review? I wanna know if his style has changed as an adult and if its good.
The Last Magician gets so much better! Yes, it's a slow start but it's gets better. I would totally push through!

I like doing it by genre as well, but then in similarity across the books. Ones that have similar worlds or similar characters or plots.
I just pile them up, I desperately need some organisational skills haha
