      There's really no difference between the two. Walmart (and every other retailer/business) sets their prices based on what they think people will pay for stuff. When Walmart thinks people will pay more, and thus they raise prices, and then people keep buying -- that IS inflation. Same goods as yesterday for more dollars today.

    • @limesta
      @limesta 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Kenotic0913the problem arises when you can ONLY shop at Walmart, as many americans are finding, Walmart is killing competition, thus people have no choice therefore are willing to pay anything for needs

      Not necessarily.
      If they see data that shows people shopping at competitors to save on costs, they will be pushed to find ways of bringing prices down.
      There are more market forces than greed and money printing.

      Every year, without hesitation, you need to request a "cost of living" raise that at least matches inflation. If your boss says no, then ask if they understand that means you're being paid less this year than last year. Be firm. They need you more than you need them.

    Asking Amazon to do more for poorer residents is asking for trouble. Any assistance they give is always in service to their bottom line. In fact they only did this because Seattle elected a socialist who is extremely anti Amazon.

      I think you're connecting dogs that don't exist.
      The people in Seattle who actually call themselves socialists don't like Bruce Harrell. That's because they think homeless people should be able to sleep wherever they want; however in August of 2022 it came out the Harrell does not believe in that position.
      The reality is Amazon and large tech firms have been trying to promote affordable housing for decades now.
      In fact this legislation actually has its origins 2014 back when Seattle passed its $10 minimum wage.
      Note that this law has actually not been good for Seattle it's only promoted further gentrification and has discouraged job creation.
      Expect to be disappointed by this law. Maybe you will one day realize that socialism is a bad idea.

    Not really a decrease because the core CPI gets adjusted at the end of the month yet no one ever quotes those. Plus again we're not buying TV's every week, but I do buy groceries which the CPI doesn't count. Also $80 to fill up my gas tank isn't counted. We won't see interest rates drop, though today we saw an increase in unemployment filings as we also saw restaurants report significant drops on traffic throughout the industry.
    It's all bad, it's just not getting covered, well until we have mass layoffs.

    We stopped rate hikes too soon. We’re in a recession either way, might as well actually fix the inflation problem. Surprised you didn’t mention the expiration of the petrodollar agreement with Saudi Arabia. That’s potentially a huge issue for us economic power.

  • @zackc3767

    I would be more worried about the economy if people weren't spending on travel and entertainment like Taylor Swift and Beyonce just announced their retirement and only had 10 shows left. Not to mention American spending on superfluous stuff like the billions we're about to spend on fireworks in a couple weeks suggests people just want to cry about costs while still spending like sailors on shore leave. Sorry I remember 2008 and people weren't buying anything but food and gas amid hour cuts and layoffs. That was legit scary.

    Hmmm, sounds pretty deliberate that Amazon isn't helping below that %threshold of the median. Nudging families that are struggling but could still potentially spend on their website if they got some housing subsidies. Also a good way to ensure continued expulsion of the poorest without govt intervention.

  • @skaluv
    @skaluv 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    While helping the poorest will always be a necessity. only helping the poor will only result in an increase of said poor. Without the stability of affordable housing and services the affordability line will continue to shrink, sending more people into poverty.
    It is best to prop people up before they get to the point that they lose everything.
    Of course, things should be done at the root to prevent things from becoming unaffordable anyway.

    Saudi Arabia also finally dropped the Petrodollar agreement the other day and just dropped the use of the US dollar that has been going on for the last 75 years... We are about to see some serious issues. Even China just recently in the last few months has ditched a lot of our bonds and shifted away from the US dollar. Love the gaslighting from the Fed saying everything is fine, when everything is shit. Inflation may have slowed, but prices are still double what they used to be from all of the previous inflation. Also, that CPI number is horsehit. Fast food costs 15$ now, there’s no way prices are unchanged.

  • @woodchuck003

    I do not expect the interest rate to fall as price inflation is still way too high.
    The only reason to lower it would be to do a political favor to Biden.
    The FED does not like looking to appear political. Them doing so would exacerbate existing calls for removing the board of governors centralized power and giving the branch banks more input.

  • @Leboosh

    I think rent increases should have a cap, like tied to inflation of the specific area they are in. I've lived in places where they would nearly double the rent when it comes time for renewal, and have seen 30% or higher be common rent increases just over the last couple years in my area. This is obviously unsustainable and I can see the impacts it has had by driving down the highway. Three years ago there were hardly any homeless on the side of the road. Now, there are tons and it increases every couple of months. I live in a suburb that's about 2 suburbs away form proper DC metro suburbs..
    You used to could only find homeless people going about inside of DC proper. I know its a multifaceted issue, but I've seen really no one giving a care about these people with no shelter. In suburbs like mine, there is not a lot of support to help people close to losing their roofs or those without. I think we are on the verge of a larger epidemic of homelessness. I know people who make close to six figures in this area but they have to have 3+ roommates to afford the cost of living. Who wants to start a family in these conditions? The average price of a one bedroom here for rent is 2500 and studios are not far behind. If anyone has any debt or loans they can kiss affording rent goodbye almost instantaneously.
