  • We built our first set of these DIY marquee letters for our wedding, and it was actually the first DIY project we ever did together, so they hold a special place in our hearts.👇 materials & links below! 👇
    Get the plans here: goo.gl/QfprvA
    They’re made of wood and metal so they’re sturdy, but very easy to put together even if you’re a beginner. They’d be great for a wedding, engagement shoot, baby shower, or as home decor (we have ours in our living room and they make us happy!)

    More thoughts on these DIY marquee letters: Wow, these were so much easier to make the second time around! Not that they were any more difficult of a project the first time, it's just before we were working on a tiny apartment balcony and we didn't have a nail gun.
    But even if you don't have a nail gun, this is still a really DIY-friendly project. Depending on the drill and jig saw you buy, it's still cheaper to buy the tools and materials needed than to buy or rent marquee letters this big. Plus the metal siding and wood combination makes them look awesome and they're really sturdy. And the globe lights give such a nice glow.
    We absolutely loved how these marquee letters looked at our wedding, and they're still one of our favorite things we've ever made.

    the energy of this video is SO different to more recent ones and you can tell how much more comfortable E&K have been getting with just being on camera and being themselves without a completely defined script

    You guys are killing it! I love your style, and working together on projects seems so much more fun than someone by their self.
    Quick question--are you using the same mic for your voiceovers as you are for your talking head shots? Sometimes it seems like the audio in the talking-head shots is a little more echo-y, but it could just be me!
    Keep inspiring!

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Rick!! Yeah, we are super thankful to have someone to share this all with, makes it easier and fun ^_^
      Nope, nice catch! And thanks for pointing it out too. When we are out filming we use a cheaper shotgun mic (we should maybe upgrade to a rode sometime) but at our desk we have a nicer mic plugged into our computer. The best upgrade we did though was a little desktop portable sound isolation thing that we mounted our mic in which really cleaned up our sound. I've updated the description with links to all of these if you're interested (look under filming gear).

Probably next step up from that would be the DIY coat rack, our scratching post, or this one the marquee letters! Hope this helps give you a starting point 😄 If you try a project and get stuck, just leave a comment and we will help out! 👍❤

    Neat trick with the blocks and rubber bands! Do you two own a forstner bit set? I have a Freud serrated edge bit set and its smooth as butter cutting holes instead of a spade bit. Definitely worth the cost difference to cut down on sanding off the tear out.

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! Yeah we actually own two, lol :P (large and small diameter set). We wanted a 13/16" hole to snugly fit our lights and though I have a 7/8" forstner bit, it just had a liiiitle too much wiggle

    ya should make a new set but instead of the ole style bulbs use remote LED strips & of course put the cord thru the back , that would look wicked

    What would you say the hardest letter to make would be? I bet a G or a Q would be difficult, especially trying to get them to stand up. It would be a fun challenge!

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah there are definitely easy letters and hard letters. We added flats to the bottom of the G and Q so... not too bad (besides lots of bends) but you would need to add bracers or supports to letters like P or F to get them to stand up so I think those would be harder

    I've watched this video before. My son is in drama this year and they are doing Wizard of Oz. I was asked to do some large lighted letters for it and I immediately thought of you guys. My letters will be about 7' tall and almost 4' wide. I'm wondering if these globe lights will work. Curious if you have any suggestions. I also love the link to your original tutorial. That was fun to check out.

    • @EvanAndKatelyn
      @EvanAndKatelyn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, big letters! Yes these lights should still work just fine, you'll just need more sets (we used 2) but you can chain them together. They don't get too hot which is nice. Good luck!

      Probably leave them hidden in the back and empty where you won’t see them.

      @EvanAndKatelyn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tim Fevens we used illustrator to scale the letters but I think you can also mess with your printer settings to print them at large scales and tile it
