Waylon Jennings was scheduled to be on the plane with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens but J.P. got the flu and wanted to see a doctor so Waylon gave up his seat on the plane to singer J.P. Richardson, known as "The Big Bopper". The plane crashed and all on board died. The song "American Pie' was written about 'the day the music died" and the loss of those artists. Waylon had an angel on his shoulder that day.
Waylon Jennings reference the plane crash in his song "Long Time Ago " with his lyric " Don't ask me who I give up my seat to on the plane , you already know I told you A Long Time Ago"
He stopped singing for quite some time after the plane crash because of Buddy saying, I hope you freeze to death on the bus and Waylon responded, I hope your plane crashes. He felt so guilty after that. He was DJing at a radio station and it was Willie who got him back into singing.
Lukenbach (Population 3) is a music destination (venue) about 10 miles south of Fredericksburg. There is a Caretakers House, a Dance Hall, a General Store and about 5 different outdoor stages for multiple performers. Texas Hill Country is all about Live Music. You never know who will show up at Lukenbach. Another great live music destination near Lukenback is Gruene (pronounced green) which is next to New Braunsfels or about 25 northwest of San Antonio. Great Music and German food. I'm headed to Gruene next month
The name of the song is actually Angle Flying too Close to the Ground. It's my very favorite Willie Nelson song. I'm still beginning you guys to react to Whiskey River by Willie.
I saw a “behind the music” type show on Waylon at one point somebody told him what he could and couldn’t sing, his reply: “ hoss I’m country and I can sing anything”. He was a legendary voice, hellraiser, and guitar player.
I haven't done any research on this song, but I suspect that this song might be eluding to them separating from that mainstream scene in Nashville. - "The successful life we're living has got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys". Waylon used to be clean cut and dapper looking, but eventually adopted that beard and western look after he had a period where he was sick. And Waylon and Willie basically left that Nashville scene and went to Texas and created what we call the "Outlaw country" genre. And they were very successful doing so.
Willie Nelson - Blues Eyes Crying In The Rain is a great one for y’all to check out!! Great reaction, especially the psychology with bourbon…and meats lol. And Dustin is right, it is a very rare thing these days, because everyone has become so sensitive and focused on what’s wrong with the world or their life that they overlook all of the good things they have going for them.
As always from Texas, luckenbach has a general store a post office a bar and a dancehall a rooster running around running the place and a lot of picnic tables and you can get a burger their sandwiches. Live music most weekend 8:00 ain't no politics just fun.
Willie is 91 and has outlived his Highwaymen pals except for Kris. Merle has also passed and now best friend Toby is gone at a young age. Wonder what goes through his head and heart now.
Ha! I've not even watched it thru but as soon as Keith started with his attempt at German, I knew this had to be a Kat bribe -- and thank you Kat, as this is another of my favorite songs. This is gonna be a great way to start my day off.
Thanks for the great reaction. Sorry about the whiskey. I had the feeling that it isn’t very good. I loved Keith attempt to speak German. Awesome! Thank you! You know what Mark Twain said about learning German? He said “Life’s too short to learn German“ 😂 and I know why he said that. 😂 I loved your reaction and I’m glad you enjoyed the Wurst Dustin. I hope Keith tried it too at one point. BTW my mom was a german teacher and she corrects my German grammar on a at least weekly basis. 😂 And I love this song. Luckenbach Texas is a destination also for Bikers ….. it’s down close to the Twisted Sister backroads trip you must make if you are a Biker . It’s pronounced Luke N’ Bach Texas . Population 3 …. Marge from one of the original families . Was the Sheriff, she also ran the Bar , and Post office lol . Funny little note She was German Decent. She had a very deep German accent. I can tell you a little bit about that whiskey. It’s the only one this distillery makes. They burn schnapps and other liquors. And this one whiskey. The owner of this distillery is apparently a baron or something like that. And the symbol is his family’s crest. The distillery is located close to the Bavarian alps in a region we call Allgäu. And I figured out that they used 5 different types of malt. And that would explain why the bit of a beer taste. I’m trying to find original German whiskeys for you but you are right, whiskey distillation is pretty new in Germany. We burn schnapps for thousand of years, produce beer for even longer but whiskey is pretty new. I’m happy to share some good stuff from Germany with you guys. Because I’ve traveled the US so often and enjoyed your country so much, that I want to share my home country with you a bit. And I grew up in an US loving home. We had an American flag in our house long before we got a Bavarian one. I grew up with a country music loving dad. So your channel feels a bit like home. And I love the community here. For grilling, boiling or heating up we are having different kind of wurst or sausages here. But those I can’t send. They need to be refrigerated.

Luckenbach is a pretty cool place. You never know who might show up there. They used to have chickens all over the place there. We try and go every few months when we go to Fredericksburg . Live about 2 hours from there. Great music there and very laid back.
Willie and Waylon were on the top of the heap at this time. "Outlaw" country was hotter than a 3 dollar pistol. Fond memories. Your discussion reminded me of a Gibson poster I saw years ago in the great Alpha Music store in VB. I can't remember the image exactly, but it was a you man playing a Les Paul and the text said, "Congratulations, your teenage angst just went platinum". You should hear Waylon sing Delia's Gone (album version) and MacArthur Park (Revisited) album version. Waylon's amazing voice is on full display on both. I never liked earlier versions of MacArthur Park. Waylon's version of Delia's Gone has a different melody similar to House of the Rising Sun. His voice wails the lyrics, "Jailor, oh jailer, tell me how can I sleep? When all around my bedside I hear little Delia's feet."
That was a great reaction to a fine song. You guys nailed it, and so did Kat as she always makes you smile. I too enjoyed the psycho lesson. You have a great group of fans following you too!
