First part of the game where you're still a newbie. You don't really have your own proper ship yet and none of the good Special attacks are unlocked yet which can actually make some fights a tad difficult. Major annoyance is that I wasn't able to revive characters in this part so sometimes one of my characters would die near the end of a boss fight and it'd miss out on all the XP. I also face the first two Giga's in this part. The first one being Recumen which is too strong to do any damage to. The second one being Grendel. By the time I get to Grendel, my ship is still not strong enough to take on a Giga but it's strong enough to atleast knock it down. You notice progression here, as with all RPG's

Places that you can Level up include Alfonso's ship, the there are two types of soldiers that you can fight. The rare ones have a chance to drop a Moon berry. IF you want to level up to 5-10 with this slow method you can get several super moves and the red magic increm to fight the war beast with. There is also a chance to get a bunch of sacri crystals before you get to Pirate Isle. The net area would be walkways of Shrine Island (you can get a better weapon for Aika here and build up their red, green, and purple magics.) The insect bugs that you can basically one shot have a low chance of dropping moon berries too. With Drachma you can level in the catacombs ( if you level Drachma you can get Vyse's Rain of Swords super in one focus round and you can farm moon berries in the sewers from the little rabbit creatures. If you do this you can have Drachma's super move Tackle which makes the fight with boss in the Arena very easy. *note* you cannot use magic to get Moon berries in most fights but Rain of Swords will always work.) Finally The lava flow of the Temple of Pyrn is a great place to level up Vyse, Aika, and Fina. If you get rain of swords and have Fina and Aika focus you can do a round two Rain of Swords and take out every looper on the screen that makes it so that you get two times the magic exp early in the game. At that point Fina should have most silver magic learned. She will also have her regeneration super, and possibly her cleanse. Tid bit of info, you can kill Grendel by avoiding the harpoon cannon. In the Dream Cast version this was how you got the Grendel Wing. Also Pinta that you meet on sailors island was part of the visual memory card mini game and later added to the Game Cube version because he had the chance to bring back the best weapons on on his voyages.
Thank you for playing this game! One of the greatest JRPGs ever made, and so hard to find now for the GameCube (though I'm lucky enough to own a copy and I treasure it!)

This game is an old sega IP that never sold a lot of copys. And Sega nowadays anyways only develops games for the Yakuza IP and Sonic because those are the games that actually make them money. Highly unlikely that they ever will go back to one of their more niche IP

@@RuthwikRao maybe but honestly i doubt they will because this game basically already failed 2 times in sales and it would really need a lot of work to have any chance at all to not fail horribly again. I have the gamecube version and recently replayed it and man I really forgot how slow this game plays in every aspect very slow movment, very slow battles especially the ship battles and insane amounts of random battles. And Sega knows this very well they know this game would need lots and lots of work not only your standard graphics overhaul but also lots of rebalancing and system overhauls to bring it in an acceptable form for a modern audience and still probably would have no great sales potential but still we can always hope
I was going through sorta the same thing. I was looking for a certain song from the Castlevania series and lucky for me LPA posted the game a few years ago.

Yup, Valkyria Chronicle and Skies of Arcadia apparently share a director, Shuntaro Tanaka It's unclear if the Vyse and Aika in VC are the same as the ones in SoA, but their log entries state they have a fondness for adventure, being from a place far beyond Gallia (the country VC1 takes place in)'s shores, as well as them having vanished from Gallia after the credits roll in search of new journeys, so who knows?

I didn't have a dreamcast the year it came out I had a n64 but I did get a gamecube so i got to experience this amazing game I just hate that I never got to finish it so fingers crossed for a switch remaster of this game in 1080p
@@ployth9000 Dolphin emulator you can upscale the resolution as high as your rig will allow. Depending on how much you might grind for XP/gold, the game is only about 30 hours long (Dreamcast since it doesn't have the extra bounties, Piastol, the Moonfish).

Ah…back when times were simpler…man. Nothing beats that context sensitive boss music that changed depending on battle odds. I miss when games did stuff like this
It's a mechanic of the game. You can change the elemental damage of your attacks at the push of a button. And the more enemies you defeat with specific elements, the more spells you unlock of that element.
Not sure why I looked up a little bit of this a long time ago but never finished it... I think I'm going to enjoy this more than Baten Kaitos anyway. :p
How the heck do I get back into the underground base to talk to my dad after the Valuans attack the island? I can only go in that secret sliding door and talk to that mom and kid but can't get down. Is my game broken?
Is it just me, or did they mess up the battle music somehow? The lead melody's instrument doesn't sound the same. It sounds more like an old midi instrument.
@@longplayarchive It's because they used the wrong sound engine. They essentially emulated the soundtrack. Still a good track, but hearing the original quality is mindblowing.
Not bad. Wish you would of used your spells a bit more instead of mashing the attack button. Fina and Aika have stupid spell power and they only cost 1 mp. Would of made some of the fights way quicker with speed and power boosts. But who am I to judge.

I had no memory card for my GameCube so everytime I lost to the thing in water temple like thing sorry it's been a long time since I played it, I would get resettled, now knowing this game takes more than 11+HOURS I feel like it's just a cool memory but not worth putting all my efforts in before it getting deleted after I turn the console off, (Tʖ̯T)
yeah because that guys dosent play whit glitch or anything like this a game normaly is take more that 5-10h to clear whit a normal run but if people cheat or use alway glitch then that take less that 5h
I would put this game on the same tier as Chrono Trigger. Any remaster of this game needs to add the Legends content to the better Drecast version and rework the healing and revive spells. No flat healing amounts and cut out the 50% chance revive from Risen.

I've heard good things about this game, but I find it a bit monotonous, space themed jrpg always felt awkward not sure why since there are tons of great space themed animes. I felt the same way about Xenosaga.

It isn't a series. There was only one game, it just got a port from Dreamcast to Gamecube, which added some content.

My very first RPG (though I played the Dreamcast original). Beat the game least 3 times a month til my DC eventually died like 2 years later.
