DC20 has exploded on kickstarter and The Dungeon Coach is everywhere! So great work Alan, love seeing the success. So this week we reminisce on our time with DC20 and the fun we have had so far with the system.

Can You help me out. I backed and i am too a Long time patron of DC.
From my point of view, the early backers could back the PDF (cheapiest version of backing the peoduct) and get a free hardbook too?
I backed the hardbook version for 65$, and i felt i could have backed the cheapier version (PDF) and get the hardbook for free??

@@anderslundtoft2315 You're hallucinating, there was no such thing. Early birds get some free PDFs, that's it.

I love DC20. It's a great system to run and play
He has done stuff with DM Lair before DC20 was announced and done other collabs before too. He is a good content creator who built his community on discussing house rules and mechanics ideas.
His products have a good track record from what we have heard and it looks like DC20 and Dungeon Coach have done a lot for not only his own community but others. There is a lot to be appreciated both in his building of the game and his community! Thank you.

DC20 will lend itself to "narrative" gameplay. The rules for the other two pillars will encourage the same sort of fun, meaningful choices, and creativity that people are experiencing with the combat pillar.
I don't know specifics, but I've been homebrewing along with Coach for years. His previous 5e kickstarter, Alkanders Almenac and other 5e homebrew gives great insight into what is important to Alan. Creativity, Intuitive play, teamwork, meaningful choices.
I think we agree and have so far gotten a similar feeling when playing. We're so excited to see where it goes, and continue our own adventure with it.

It was a kickstarted we love thing. Im one of the first 100 backers and i have been following alan for years and he definitely deserves the success of this game.

DC20 is rockin it on YT. But i worry that the marketing should be directed to a wider variety of places.
Its doing well on kickstarter too. It seems to be out there pretty strongly and rocking away!

Great conversation. I feel like the system sits in a good place between 5E and PF2E.

Except it's better than both when it comes to speed of combat and approachability for new players (the most important things for a new system IMO.

Havent run it, but feel like I would just put check marks by my monsters HP to track actions each round.
Thats a good suggestion we'll see what we can do to implement something like it or at least I'll run it by Mike!
My wife and I made her a character and that in itself was really fun! Some of DC20 reminds me of Savage Worlds, which we love, but faster. I’m glad to see DC20 growing so well. It’s got serious chops and Coach seems super-nice.
I enjoyed character creation too, if you can make the little details of selecting things fun that's a good start to the game.
We are really glad to see it doing well too, and its nice to support something well thought out and someone well thought of!

13th age was a fun game. Haven’t tried 2e either but 1e was fun
13th age is on our d20 to do list (which is ever expanding, lol.) We'll probably wait for the second edition to be the second edition to be released at this point. It looks fun though!

Man my kids just picked up DC20 so fast and never wanna go back to D&D they just love all the action
That is awesome! Love hearing the kids are into it! I agree you can create some big moments right out of the gate and so far it’s been fun! We’re still learning the rules, but we look forward to reviewing the beta soon!

@RoleWise It doesn't end at Heavy and Brutal ^^ After that there's Brutal +1, +2, +3 etc. which we've hit more than a couple of times - as well as an extra +2 on a natural 20.
That is correct! We should have explained that better as the five over rule keeps going. And good callout on the critical hits. I’m also a fan of the abilities that trigger off these heavy hits making for some truly epic damage. For example, the orcs brutal strikes or great weapon fighting for fighters :)

Thank you for the show, I have certainly seen good things about DC20. It will not be one that I will be picking up as Heroic fantasy is not the sort of game I am running anymore, however what I think is so great about the TTRPG industry at the moment is that there are some great quality game designers and creators operating now supporting so many different expressions of the game. It is innovation and great design that keeps the hobby moving forward, unfortunately it feels like WOTC has lost sight of that and I am unsure if '5.Whatever' will change that.
I agree with you on WoTC. I'm also not so much on the high fantasy type of environments anymore either, but it is a good game and has some real creativity.

Glad to hear the GMs perspective on DC20. It sounds like a blast to play, but realistically I'll be the one running it, so I've been wondering how people are managing all those actions across multiple monsters. What is y'all's method for handling this??

Mike here - Honestly, without a custom app, I've just been using check marks on graph paper and its worked well. Keeps it old school and flexible. I'm sure there will be more powerful trackers down the road, but this works well if you can't track all that in your head (I can't lol)

WOTC/Hasbro their faces have gone White, and they are pissing their pants, this game is just a Milestone better than D&D 5.5 edition.🎉
The game has a lot of great things going for it. I look forward to seeing how it goes. It has a great follwoing, a great heart, and some great things.. Its future is bright for sure.

It is hard to run a campaign with it as only up to level 2 is available for now. I was thinking about switching my Drakkenheim campaign to it, but it will be better to stay with D&D. I have switched systems in campaigns, sometimes it works great, other times not. It really depends on how much characters change when remade in the other system.
Thanks for stopping by and we appreciate the comment! Hopefully the DC20 beta document will have some expansion on leveling up so we can maybe get a level or two in. And we agree converting campaigns/adventures can yield some pretty wild results. Some work really well and others definitely don’t fit. We actually just made a video sharing some thought from converting age of works between fantasy systems we’d be curious to hear your thoughts!

In my experience, conversion is best if it is not an equation, as most people seem to expect, but instead comparing what things mean in each system. Many people ask about what to do with Constitution when converting D&D to DC20. To be honest, most of the time I would ignore it, since people tend to get a higher Constitution score just to get more Hit Points.
@@grr-OUCH I think you're very correct about the constitution, and I guess we are lucky we started with DC20 characters and are mostly focused on converting stuff out of the adventure monsters and puzzles and stuff.
Mike is doing a good job and trying to keep it one to one. I think for converting adventures its often better to just take ideas or concepts, but we're experimenting!

I am talking with the devs on discord to make movement a free action. Movement should not have a cost because that restricts freedom to move. What do you think?
U got 4ap and less op attacks. With MCP, u got ap to spare. There are many ways to get cheaper movement if that is what you want to build towards.
@@selthafour6948 I think movement is fine still being governed by the AP cost, it keeps things a bit tactical with movement and can manage theater of the mind a bit without people just running willy nilly everywhere. So far from what we've played I feel like there's enough AP to play with...
It's interesting though and be something to try for sure. I'll also see what the guys think and maybe mention it on an episode.

I game with a politically and ideologically diverse group of people. Do you know how we manage this? We come together to have fun and play games. We don't talk politics or other social hot-button issues. I wish there was more of this in the gaming community.
