If you listen to medieval chants (and even folk music), look at the medieval cathedrals (and even the simple churches and chapels), read about Thomas Aquinas, Hildegard Von Bingen, read about the orders of the monks, see the adorned bibles, anything pertaining to medieval culture - you notice that those people who call it "Dark Ages" are a bunch of idiots.
And we sit over a "modern", "enlightened" century, the XXth, which, with all its' "progress", slaughtered more people than any century in human history. The selfdestruction of what's left of Civilization. And we keep on pretending ourselves to be so superior. Look at the last 500 years of Western history. What our "teachers" at the schools and universities, what the movies in Hollywood show as the progress of mankind, as the "Ages of Light", are actually a five hundred year long series of disasters and monstrosities. The lunacy of our civilizaton gets bigger and bigger, and we still call it progress. Indeed, it is the progress - the progress of hell on earth.
The Protestant revolutions covered Europe in chaos and blood and centralized the power of the princes, the French Revolution slaughtered more people than most wars back then, the secularism preceded some of the most arbitrary regimes and ideologies, and the modern man prides himself on how we have abandoned and superated "medieval obscurantism". The blindness of man separated from God has no limits.
@@diogogeraldes3324 could you explain why you regard protestantism to have done that, as a juxtaposition to other branches of christianity? (I haven't been raised christian, so im very much ignorant of your culture)
Only fools don't call it a dark age. Education, and literacy were gatekept by the church & elite. Freedom, and liberty were all crushed by the Kings & the church. They set us back 100s - maybe even a 1000 years in development.
You light up a candle and the flame wavers and flutters in its gentle luminous vibration towards God... Such is this chant. Requiem aeternam Hildegard !
Moses - Thank you for your kind words. I generally post what I can get my hands on, know a bit about, and has generally been composed before 1500 (with a few exceptions). I do like other traditions as well (I'm a big fan of armenian chant) but I don't have the knowledge to judge which renditions are traditional and which not, or how old a piece may be.
@@Callixtinus Your channel is so good that I think you should just go by your own judgment (which seems to be impeccable). If it sounds good to you, post it. You have created an invaluable resource for Early Music, sacred music and chant lovers, and I thank you profoundly.

Hi! Thank you for your comment - I do love jewish and muslim music (I have listened to some really awesome adhans and sephardic hymns)! However, as you may read in my channel's description (which has been unchanged for many, many years) "This channel is dedicated to the chanting tradition - primarily medieval - of Western and Eastern Christendom". I would like to keep it focused as much as possible.
@@Callixtinus Callixtus, this is a video I downloaded years ago and I can not find on web now. I found many different versions of the song, but none of those are seemingly beautiful as this one. I don't know who the performers were nor who uploaded the video. And the video was not whole, like it was cut off before the end. If you can find original video and upload it, I would be endlessly grateful. th-cam.com/video/ZcbfIknGv84/w-d-xo.html
