Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan: " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. I love Epica, Eluveitie, Nightwish, Infected Rain, Delain, Lacuna Coil, Jinjer, and there are some more bands I love! Epica, Eluveitie and Nightwish are all three top of the notch for me!!! So no i really don't agree with you. But for sure I'm a Floor fan-boy she is my #1 and went also to her solo-tour in the Netherlands!!
Ghost River, Storytime, Romanticide do always live with Nightwish that’s where they shine! There was 82,000 close friends at Wacken 2013 the Nightwish army will be arriving, been a fan for over 20 years, my favorite Nightwish song is always the last one I listened to . Good luck on your journey!
Lead singer iAmy Lee is a very good who also plays piano on some songs. She is Floorisk with less range ( DUH ). They are a little heavier and darker as a rule. Check out " Sweet Sacrifice " Good band, good song, good vocals, just not as good ( for me ) as Nightwish.
Great job! Mind you, Nightwish is a rabbithole. Once you get hooked, there's no turning back. I got hooked around +/- 2008 and I don't regret one second of it!!!

Nightwish's 3 singers: 1. Tarja (original singer) 2. Annette 3. Floor (current singer) everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out. so, it comes down to "Targasm (Tarja) vs Floorgasm (Floor)" in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she can do, but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish (many others will help you out with Floor's songs, so I'll just stick to Tarja's songs here) ---------- if you do like Tarja with nightwish, here's some good ones: (NOT ranked, just listed) 1. End of an Era (her last concert with nightwish, hard to find good quality and the entire concert, as it gets taken down) 2. Phantom of the Opera (her duet with Marco, really good, both of them together, this song was actually used in the Phantom of the Opera remake movie in 2004) 3. Wishmaster 4. Just an FYI, there's never been such thing as a Taragasm. Floorgasm is the chills you get when Floor hits certain notes and sing-emotes in certain ways. Only recently have a select few been using that and trying to apply it to Tarja. Don't get me wrong, Tarja is good and was first! So all respect to her. But please don't steal phrases that belong to the now current singer and attempt to apply them to someone else. It's uncouth and it shouldn't even be a comparison. Enjoy Tarja for what she brought to this band as well as enjoy Floor. And yes even Annette as there are some who love her as well.
Hi guys. Nice reaction. I'll just give you quick info (first of many probably :D ) Nightwish had 3 singers. First was Tarja Turunnen (from Finland like rest of the band) - From begining to 2005. She was full operatic voice (great operatic voice btw, but just operatic voice) and lots of songs was written especially for her voice. Have 5 albums with Nightwish and few official DVD's from best one is End of an era from 2005 that was her last show. THis song is from her last album with NW and was on End of an Era DVD. She was kicked out right after that show. She have solo career now. Second was Anette Olzon (From Sweden) 2007-2012. She was Pop/rock singer. Have two great albums with Nightwish and no live DVD. She was great in the studio, but live shows was not near the quality of the previous era. She was kicked out in the middle of their tour to her second NW album. After that she started her own band Dark Element. And last and cryzy versatile (in whatever style or language you want her to sing (well she wants to sing) is Floor Jansen (from Netherlands) 2012 - present day (and probably the day she leaves NW will NW stop to exist, because there is nobody on earth that is capable to sing what she can do as easy as breathing is for everybody else) She jumped to NW train right after Anette with only two days to prepare for next show and she kicked ass from first minute. When she joined she was still ill - Burnout syndrom - she was almost healed, but not 100%. She admited lately that NW and their welcomming fans gave her her confidence back. This version of GLS is about 8 months after she jouned them and about a month after they asked her to become permanet member insted just a guest singer. She have 2 albums with NW (second one is just week old), and 3 live DVD's (or Blue rays) from several shows (Wacken 2013, Tampare 2015, Wembley 2015, Buenos aires 2018, an a lot of songs from other shows like Tampa, Joensu, Vizovice,...). She also had two bands before - After Forever (they was BTW NWs warmup band in 2002 where they met for the first time) and ReVamp. She also did small hard rock project Northward, sings in Ayreon and Star One, and list goes on and on and on. Also she after all those years became finaly famous back in her homeland by being one of singers in their local show Beste Zangers (they weren't ready for her :D ). And she is better live then on studio albums. If you will continue NW's or Floor's music, be warned - it is poison best served Live :D (except Anette - do her onstudio only if you like using your ears even after the song ends.) Annette was not just kicked out. She was ill constantly just before concerts and that became a huge problem. They let Floor flew over from Holland to the USA (the tour) and she had 20 hours to study the whole damn concert. Annette was still ill,her voice was off. Probably not the best singing technique and she was the least classified singer. Poppy voice. There is a docu about it, 24 hours to learn all the lyrics...about how the band struggled with Annette het voice and she did not want to sing and how Floor prepared for it in the plane.

I had to chuckle when you said, "She's got a fan down there." My first thought was, "No, she's got 82,000 fans down there!! ...Oh, wait, you were talking about the floor fan. But all 82,000 of them are Floor fans!! ….Oh, wait, you meant the ELECTRIC fan. ….Nevermind." LOLOLOL! ……….That other singer you saw there doing GLS was Tarja Turunen, one of the founding members of the band (1996-2005). While you're on the Ghost Love Score thing, why not try out that old 2005 version from Tarja as your next reaction? It is an interesting contrast. Tarja is a classically trained opera soprano but doesn't do the amazing Floorgasm ending. That wasn't written into the original composition. Floor invented that herself. The original score was exactly the way Tarja sang it in that 2005 "End of an Era" concert you saw pop up in the suggestion window. Great reaction. I would go with "Romanticide" or "Song Of Myself" from the same concert if you'd like a taste of something heavier from them. In fact, every song from that concert is fire! One of the most epic concert performances of all-time, in my opinion. Wish I would have been there.
@@btstone1163 Ken is right, those are two excellent next songs for you to listen to. IK also recommend Ever Dream and Nemo. Nightwish has had three singers, Floor is the most recent, Tarja was there first (the one in that flamboyant red coat). I like her even more classical singing style, but as nice as Tarja was, Floor just blows them all away IMHO. She sings better, dances better, has more stage presence, she's the whole package there.

I got into Nightwish during the Tarja era with Elvenpath, then I bought Once...blew me away...then I bought catalogue & then the Annette era with Dark Passion Play...I enjoyed it, nice and ABBA poppyish mixed with some teeth...but my love dissipated a bit...never saw em live as they rarely play the US...knew they switched singers again but never experienced Floor's power until I saw a reaction video of GLS on a fave channel...my mind was blown...then I got addicted to all the many different GLS reaction videos...I have Decades, heard that first time in a long time...then I ordered online the Floor-era Nightwish records...the newest Human Nature & Endless Forms Most Beautiful...and the 2 live albums/DVD/BluRays...the Wacken one (Storytime) & Decades Live in Buenos Aires...Nightwish just advanced into my Top 5 fave bands ever...no matter the genre...I am NOT usually into metal...too macho and conservative/right-wing and not really into classical...but I love Nightwish because they are a hybrid of European pop, great female vocals, epic songwriting/composition and rock...feminine, not macho, with teeth...they turn music I despise on its head into something I am blown away by...

Subscribed. Enjoyed your first reaction to Nightwish. You're right in a way that Nightwish are best experienced by their live performances. There is just something magical about their stage presence and ability to be so tight as a band, coupled with Floor's amazing live vocal ability! Having seen many of their live performances on TH-cam, I have never heard Floor miss a note! She is always spot on! By the way, at this concert Floor was still not a full member of the group. She had only been with them for 10 months, having replaced the previous singer mid way through the American leg of their World Tour. She had to fly to America from Holland and learn the setlist in 48 hours, before appearing on stage with them for the first time. This was 10 months later but they had been touring all that time so she had to learn and improve on the road in front of live audiences! Best music and band for sure. Just go deeper...you will be even more amazed. The singer is Floor Jansen and the keyboard player writes the best music there is...being "Metal Mozart". They have had two female singers before, the original did 5 albums since 1996 and the first substitute two. The current has done also two but third is coming soon.
Yes! Nightwish is better served live! Song of Myself, Ghost River, Romanticide and Dark Chest of Wonders from the same concert Wacken 2013, legendary as a whole. Their catalogue is impressive vast. Also every time one of you leaned back during the reaction, those were Floorgasms. 🤟🤟✌️✌️

For your next NW reaction, I would suggest either 'Everdream' or 'Storytime' from the same Wacken 2013 concert. Yes, the singer is Floor Jansen. She is the band's (Est. 1996) 3rd lead female singer. She had been with the band for just little over 10 months at the time of this performance on 03 August 2013. An is still the band's current female singer.
There were 82k+ at this festival and Floor had them like putty in her hands. This is the tightest band I've every heard. Tuomas, keyboards, composes, writes the lyrics and arranges most of their songs. Floor, lead vocal, has no equal in my opinion. Marco, bass guitar, also sings lead, but mostly backup vocals, Emppu handles lead guitar and Jukka is a master drummer. Sadly he left the drums in 2014 for health issues, but is still involved in the operations of the band. Until this month when their latest album, Human II Nature, dropped I've always recommended watching their live concert videos because they are masters of stage presence and production quality if off the charts. This new album is maybe their most unique and well worth listening to. Just subscribed as I want to join you on your new adventure with Nightwish. Them being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the long epic multipart full production type songs like Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth.. Then they have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs like Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders.. They even have a very celtic rock sound going on in songs like E'lan or My Walden.. You chose, but the Nightwish Army loves it all..

Floor Jansen aka Valkyrie can also be seen in the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers in which she performs a duet with Henk Poort singing the Phantom of the Opera among other songs. Henk Poort is a professional opera singer and had played the "phantom" for many years. Floor grew up listening to him. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. The fan, that makes the singers (called Floor) is there especially because their stage lights build up a lot of heat on the stage. Plus Wacken is an Open Air Festival that happens on the first weekend of August annually (except 2020, thanks to Corona), so it's hot all day, not exactly cooling down at night as well. Without the fan she'd go crazy I think

Always watch live videos for Nightwish unless it is not available. This song was towards the end of the set. This is a very unique song of theirs. You have just heard The Dutch Queen of symphonic metal. Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen). She may be the greatest female rock vocalist on the planet. She can do much more and always listen to live videos. Nightwish is incredible live. "Romanticide" from the same show will give you a little of the heavier side of Nightwish. Nightwish has had 3 female vocalists since their formation in 1997. i was there it is amazing. wacken is promoted as the worlds biggest metal festival and has been a thing since 1989. this year will be the only one since then that wacken wont take place because corona

My personal suggestion for the next songs in order to give you a nice overview of some "styles" covered by Nightwish: 1. You did Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013): THE "traditional first song" to get into Nightwish. 2. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast 3. Then there are a couple of great songs from Wacken: Storytime, Song of Myself, Romanticide, Last Ride of the Day, Ghostriver plus "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look at the growls) 4. Then "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) and "The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley - get to know the beckground of this song ahead) 5. you have to listen to romanticide, or song of myself, or ghost river, i like all of the songs that floor is singing, for me the best female singer at this moment.
This song was originally written for Tarja there first singer. When Anette Olzon joyed the band she could not sing this song witch is one of the fans favourite songs. So for a couple of years this song was of the setlist. Now with Floor they can play the old Nightwish song live again and this song is a tryout song to see if it fits for Floor. Emppu Vuorinen the guitar player is always imprest that she is nailing this song in the end even Tarja there original vocalist never song this song as Floor does.
After this performance it's all downhill from here. Floor Jensen and NIGHTWISH are absolutely the best. I really liked your reaction guys, that's really key and I like your set-up.
Floor Jansen also sings on many albums of Ayreon. Look for Ayreon Universe live. She’s not in every song but the rest is also excellent. Also look for The electric castle live and other tales (2019). Not with Floor but again excellent. Simone Simons and Mark Janssen from Epica sing as well as Fish from Marillion. And many others.
We were thinking about doing Tara's version of Ghost Love Score and comparing them. A lot of suggestions, but Romanticide seems to be winning it out. Plus, do you guys prefer the video being watched big like in this video or swapped with us big and the video being watched in lower corner?
Just watch out for the slightly slower "rips" of the Nightwish videos. Some of the DVD or Bluray rips were a couple of fps slower, resulting in lower voice tones and slower songs. The GLS vid you reacted to was one of them I think. But basically any song of the Wacken ("VAH-ken") 2013 is awesome. As already mentioned, this concert was one of those "once in a lifetime" events. If I had a time machine, I'd know where to go :-)
Honestly, You'd only be disappointed. For Tarja I would suggest "Phantom of the Opera", "The siren" or "Sleeping sun" all from "the end of an era" concert.

After a quick search for top videos reacted to, which would be the first thing to look into if your looking for what people are watching and searching for most, and Nightwish sadly doesn't even show up in the first 100. That took about 10 seconds. So if making a big splash was in our sole interest then Nightwish probably not the best choice to go with first judging by search results.

How about we just dump you into the Nightwish deep end - "Shoemaker" lyric video, just released on April10th: th-cam.com/video/Rjp_DfvJimg/w-d-xo.html Remember that this is a metal band: - the song is about a scientist, Eugene Shoemaker, considered to be the father of planetary science - his ashes have been scattered on the moon by a lunar probe into a crater named after him - remember this as then the lyrics makes sense - the song opens with music played on a hammered dulcimer - it has vocal lines that are very difficult to sing - it uses the three part harmonies (Floor, Troy, Marko), a choir, and a string section - there's a quotation from Shakespeare spoken by the wife of the composer - it finishes with Floor Jansen, singing in Latin, going full opera, backed up by a choir This from a metal band . . .
Nightwish excels live and I love the new album, but it might time to digest with its modern atonal twists etc. Floor gets to show her incredible range though (both in octaves in singing styles) and the songs are quite different from each other. Nightwish has a tendency to do something completely different, but keep some elements so those who know them, know almost instantly it's a Nightwish. S don't expect the songs to be similar, they can go from insane heavy riffs to beautiful ballads, folk/celtic vibes to more towards movie scores and anything in between. That's one of the reasons I like them, it's not the same song allover again. They are insanely good live. After some time - I wouldn't suggest to react to it too soon, after another 5-10 songs maybe, the earliest - Greatest Show on Earth in Tampere 2015. Before that, from Wacken 2013 Storytime, Romanticide, Ghost River etc. Wembley 2015 e.g. 7 Days to the Wolves, for a nice ballad While Your Lips are Still Red. The epic Poet and the Pendulum. Floor's deep growls in Yours Is an Empty Hope. For more ballads, Sleeping Sun in Tampere 2015, or Marco on Islander. From Buenos Aires Devil and The Deep Dark Ocean, Dead Boy's Poem, Slaying the Dreamer. If you want to hear more of Floor, start with Phantom of the Opera with henk Poort (Beste Zangers) and then rest of the songs in that show where she basically sang something completely different every week.

And you're right, you just scratched the surface of this legendary band.. Since this is your first Nightwish experience, I'll give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan:
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Lead singer iAmy Lee is a very good who also plays piano on some songs. She is Floorisk with less range ( DUH ). They are a little heavier and darker as a rule. Check out " Sweet Sacrifice " Good band, good song, good vocals, just not as good ( for me ) as Nightwish.

everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities
Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out.
so, it comes down to "Targasm (Tarja) vs Floorgasm (Floor)" in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she can do, but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better
I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish

Just an FYI, there's never been such thing as a Taragasm. Floorgasm is the chills you get when Floor hits certain notes and sing-emotes in certain ways. Only recently have a select few been using that and trying to apply it to Tarja.
Don't get me wrong, Tarja is good and was first! So all respect to her. But please don't steal phrases that belong to the now current singer and attempt to apply them to someone else. It's uncouth and it shouldn't even be a comparison.
Enjoy Tarja for what she brought to this band as well as enjoy Floor. And yes even Annette as there are some who love her as well.
Hi guys. Nice reaction. I'll just give you quick info (first of many probably :D )
Nightwish had 3 singers. First was Tarja Turunnen (from Finland like rest of the band) - From begining to 2005. She was full operatic voice (great operatic voice btw, but just operatic voice) and lots of songs was written especially for her voice. Have 5 albums with Nightwish and few official DVD's from best one is End of an era from 2005 that was her last show. THis song is from her last album with NW and was on End of an Era DVD. She was kicked out right after that show. She have solo career now.
Second was Anette Olzon (From Sweden) 2007-2012. She was Pop/rock singer. Have two great albums with Nightwish and no live DVD. She was great in the studio, but live shows was not near the quality of the previous era. She was kicked out in the middle of their tour to her second NW album. After that she started her own band Dark Element.
And last and cryzy versatile (in whatever style or language you want her to sing (well she wants to sing) is Floor Jansen (from Netherlands) 2012 - present day (and probably the day she leaves NW will NW stop to exist, because there is nobody on earth that is capable to sing what she can do as easy as breathing is for everybody else)
She jumped to NW train right after Anette with only two days to prepare for next show and she kicked ass from first minute. When she joined she was still ill - Burnout syndrom - she was almost healed, but not 100%. She admited lately that NW and their welcomming fans gave her her confidence back. This version of GLS is about 8 months after she jouned them and about a month after they asked her to become permanet member insted just a guest singer.
She have 2 albums with NW (second one is just week old), and 3 live DVD's (or Blue rays) from several shows (Wacken 2013, Tampare 2015, Wembley 2015, Buenos aires 2018, an a lot of songs from other shows like Tampa, Joensu, Vizovice,...). She also had two bands before - After Forever (they was BTW NWs warmup band in 2002 where they met for the first time) and ReVamp. She also did small hard rock project Northward, sings in Ayreon and Star One, and list goes on and on and on. Also she after all those years became finaly famous back in her homeland by being one of singers in their local show Beste Zangers (they weren't ready for her :D ). And she is better live then on studio albums.
If you will continue NW's or Floor's music, be warned - it is poison best served Live :D (except Anette - do her onstudio only if you like using your ears even after the song ends.) Or better than that do Floor version of those songs live :)

Annette was not just kicked out. She was ill constantly just before concerts and that became a huge problem. They let Floor flew over from Holland to the USA (the tour) and she had 20 hours to study the whole damn concert. Annette was still ill,her voice was off. Probably not the best singing technique and she was the least classified singer. Poppy voice. There is a docu about it, 24 hours to learn all the lyrics...about how the band struggled with Annette het voice and she did not want to sing and how Floor prepared for it in the plane.
Congratulations, brothers! You picked the right band right out of the box. You're channel is going to go ballistic. Nice reaction. Priceless. Just keep one thing in mind, Floor is our Valkyrie Goddess. Please pay her proper homage and things will work out fine. Becaurse although we mere mortals are unworthy of her divine voice, she gifts us with it anyway. Try "Romanticide" from Wacken(vahken) or "Seven Days to the Wolves" from Wembley. Peace always.

I had to chuckle when you said, "She's got a fan down there." My first thought was, "No, she's got 82,000 fans down there!! ...Oh, wait, you were talking about the floor fan. But all 82,000 of them are Floor fans!! ….Oh, wait, you meant the ELECTRIC fan. ….Nevermind." LOLOLOL! ……….That other singer you saw there doing GLS was Tarja Turunen, one of the founding members of the band (1996-2005). While you're on the Ghost Love Score thing, why not try out that old 2005 version from Tarja as your next reaction? It is an interesting contrast. Tarja is a classically trained opera soprano but doesn't do the amazing Floorgasm ending. That wasn't written into the original composition. Floor invented that herself. The original score was exactly the way Tarja sang it in that 2005 "End of an Era" concert you saw pop up in the suggestion window. By the way, new subscriber here and proud member of the Nightwish Army!

I would go with "Romanticide" or "Song Of Myself" from the same concert if you'd like a taste of something heavier from them. In fact, every song from that concert is fire! One of the most epic concert performances of all-time, in my opinion.

@@btstone1163 Ken is right, those are two excellent next songs for you to listen to. IK also recommend Ever Dream and Nemo. Nightwish has had three singers, Floor is the most recent, Tarja was there first (the one in that flamboyant red coat). I like her even more classical singing style, but as nice as Tarja was, Floor just blows them all away IMHO. She sings better, dances better, has more stage presence, she's the whole package there.

In the first concerts after Corona they will be recorded. Like many said before start your journey first with some live songs (mainly from wacken 2013 and some from Wembley 2015 and Buenos Aires 2016-2018. All live songs are fantastic .Romanticide and Song of Myself as many Nightwish fans proposed would be a good start.

I got into Nightwish during the Tarja era with Elvenpath, then I bought Once...blew me away...then I bought catalogue & then the Annette era with Dark Passion Play...I enjoyed it, nice and ABBA poppyish mixed with some teeth...but my love dissipated a bit...never saw em live as they rarely play the US...knew they switched singers again but never experienced Floor's power until I saw a reaction video of GLS on a fave channel...my mind was blown...then I got addicted to all the many different GLS reaction videos...I have Decades, heard that first time in a long time...then I ordered online the Floor-era Nightwish records...the newest Human Nature & Endless Forms Most Beautiful...and the 2 live albums/DVD/BluRays...the Wacken one (Storytime) & Decades Live in Buenos Aires...Nightwish just advanced into my Top 5 fave bands ever...no matter the genre...I am NOT usually into metal...too macho and conservative/right-wing and not really into classical...but I love Nightwish because they are a hybrid of European pop, great female vocals, epic songwriting/composition and rock...feminine, not macho, with teeth...they turn music I despise on its head into something I am blown away by...
Great and refreshing reaction, felt like I sat down with someone and watched their reaction unfold.
They are all amazing performers; definitely worth your time exploring their music.

Subscribed. Enjoyed your first reaction to Nightwish. You're right in a way that Nightwish are best experienced by their live performances. There is just something magical about their stage presence and ability to be so tight as a band, coupled with Floor's amazing live vocal ability! Having seen many of their live performances on TH-cam, I have never heard Floor miss a note! She is always spot on! By the way, at this concert Floor was still not a full member of the group. She had only been with them for 10 months, having replaced the previous singer mid way through the American leg of their World Tour. She had to fly to America from Holland and learn the setlist in 48 hours, before appearing on stage with them for the first time. This was 10 months later but they had been touring all that time so she had to learn and improve on the road in front of live audiences! I get the sense watching the beginning that this pick was highly calculated. Pretty sure that some people that start up reaction videos now will look to see what is popular on other reaction channels. I'm not going to say that they may've even watched this before doing it, but their reactions seem quite rehearsed.

They have had two female singers before, the original did 5 albums since 1996 and the first substitute two. The current has done also two but third is coming soon.

1st!!! Nice reaction! FYI: there were 82,000+ in audience during that performance. GLS was 13th of 15 songs that they performed that night. For your next NW reaction, I would suggest either 'Everdream' or 'Storytime' from the same Wacken 2013 concert. Yes, the singer is Floor Jansen. She is the band's (Est. 1996) 3rd lead female singer. She had been with the band for just little over 10 months at the time of this performance on 03 August 2013. An is still the band's current female singer.

There were 82k+ at this festival and Floor had them like putty in her hands. This is the tightest band I've every heard. Tuomas, keyboards, composes, writes the lyrics and arranges most of their songs. Floor, lead vocal, has no equal in my opinion. Marco, bass guitar, also sings lead, but mostly backup vocals, Emppu handles lead guitar and Jukka is a master drummer. Sadly he left the drums in 2014 for health issues, but is still involved in the operations of the band. Until this month when their latest album, Human II Nature, dropped I've always recommended watching their live concert videos because they are masters of stage presence and production quality if off the charts. This new album is maybe their most unique and well worth listening to. Just subscribed as I want to join you on your new adventure with Nightwish. Them being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions. They have the long epic multipart full production type songs like Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum or The Greatest Show on Earth.. Then they have several of the more classic thrash heavy metal style songs like Romanticide, Song of Myself or Dark Chest of Wonders.. They even have a very celtic rock sound going on in songs like E'lan or My Walden.. You chose, but the Nightwish Army loves it all..

Floor Jansen aka Valkyrie can also be seen in the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers in which she performs a duet with Henk Poort singing the Phantom of the Opera among other songs. Henk Poort is a professional opera singer and had played the "phantom" for many years. Floor grew up listening to him. The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Swedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. The fan, that makes the singers (called Floor) is there especially because their stage lights build up a lot of heat on the stage. Plus Wacken is an Open Air Festival that happens on the first weekend of August annually (except 2020, thanks to Corona), so it's hot all day, not exactly cooling down at night as well. Without the fan she'd go crazy I think

Next song suggestion: "Romanticide" (at the same concert, Wacken 2013). Always watch live videos for Nightwish unless it is not available. This song was towards the end of the set. This is a very unique song of theirs. You have just heard The Dutch Queen of symphonic metal. Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen). She may be the greatest female rock vocalist on the planet. She can do much more and always listen to live videos. Nightwish is incredible live. "Romanticide" from the same show will give you a little of the heavier side of Nightwish. Nightwish has had 3 female vocalists since their formation in 1997. Floor has been their singer since 2012. See you guys for the next one.

2. "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast
3. Then there are a couple of great songs from Wacken: Storytime, Song of Myself, Romanticide, Last Ride of the Day, Ghostriver plus "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look at the growls)
4. Then "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) and "The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley - get to know the beckground of this song ahead)
5. Then the new stuff with "Noise" (Video) and "Harvest (Lyric Video) first.

This song was originally written for Tarja there first singer. When Anette Olzon joyed the band she could not sing this song witch is one of the fans favourite songs. So for a couple of years this song was of the setlist. Now with Floor they can play the old Nightwish song live again and this song is a tryout song to see if it fits for Floor. Emppu Vuorinen the guitar player is always imprest that she is nailing this song in the end even Tarja there original vocalist never song this song as Floor does.
After this performance it's all downhill from here. Floor Jensen and NIGHTWISH are absolutely the best. I really liked your reaction guys, that's really key and I like your set-up.

We were thinking about doing Tara's version of Ghost Love Score and comparing them. A lot of suggestions, but Romanticide seems to be winning it out. Plus, do you guys prefer the video being watched big like in this video or swapped with us big and the video being watched in lower corner?
Just watch out for the slightly slower "rips" of the Nightwish videos. Some of the DVD or Bluray rips were a couple of fps slower, resulting in lower voice tones and slower songs. The GLS vid you reacted to was one of them I think. But basically any song of the Wacken ("VAH-ken") 2013 is awesome. As already mentioned, this concert was one of those "once in a lifetime" events. If I had a time machine, I'd know where to go :-)
Honestly, You'd only be disappointed. For Tarja I would suggest "Phantom of the Opera", "The siren" or "Sleeping sun" all from "the end of an era" concert.

After a quick search for top videos reacted to, which would be the first thing to look into if your looking for what people are watching and searching for most, and Nightwish sadly doesn't even show up in the first 100. That took about 10 seconds. So if making a big splash was in our sole interest then Nightwish probably not the best choice to go with first judging by search results.

- the song is about a scientist, Eugene Shoemaker, considered to be the father of planetary science
- his ashes have been scattered on the moon by a lunar probe into a crater named after him
- remember this as then the lyrics makes sense
- the song opens with music played on a hammered dulcimer
- it has vocal lines that are very difficult to sing
- it uses the three part harmonies (Floor, Troy, Marko), a choir, and a string section
- there's a quotation from Shakespeare spoken by the wife of the composer
- it finishes with Floor Jansen, singing in Latin, going full opera, backed up by a choir

Nightwish excels live and I love the new album, but it might time to digest with its modern atonal twists etc. Floor gets to show her incredible range though (both in octaves in singing styles) and the songs are quite different from each other.
Nightwish has a tendency to do something completely different, but keep some elements so those who know them, know almost instantly it's a Nightwish. S don't expect the songs to be similar, they can go from insane heavy riffs to beautiful ballads, folk/celtic vibes to more towards movie scores and anything in between. That's one of the reasons I like them, it's not the same song allover again.
They are insanely good live. After some time - I wouldn't suggest to react to it too soon, after another 5-10 songs maybe, the earliest - Greatest Show on Earth in Tampere 2015.
Before that, from Wacken 2013 Storytime, Romanticide, Ghost River etc. Wembley 2015 e.g. 7 Days to the Wolves, for a nice ballad While Your Lips are Still Red. The epic Poet and the Pendulum. Floor's deep growls in Yours Is an Empty Hope.
