As someone new to the hobby here is a few of my observations. 1. There are way too many flippers and not enough collectors. Everyone wants to buy at 65-85% comps. Not enough forever homes. People always use ebay comps but do not add tax and shipping to that $100 card making it a $110 purchase for a buyer. I understand they take a fee but wanting a % off after the fees seems crazy to me. Had a guy say well it sells for $100 they take 12% which is now an $88 and I buy at 80% off that. 2. Some sellers are easy to work with and some are not. I will not even look at cards and tables where they do not have prices. I wasted more time at shows asking how much are these cards or just trying to look up a bunch to see what price range they are. I’m newer and we have one small card shop in my town I’m not well versed on having a sense of the price. 3. Too many vendors look angry. Not many tables are smiling and having a good time. I get that you may be having a long day or may not like to smile but it makes me want to skip tables. They may be the nicest person you know but if they do not look approachable I do not even want to stop as a new person to the hobby.
That 3 observation I agree a hundred percent with too many angry sellers and just rude people in the hobby doesn’t make you want to buy anything from them. Most of the times is from them thinking you not gonna buy anything either ways so they don’t even try it’s ridiculous.
The angry ones are only in it for the money, most of them are felons that cant get a real job and bleed into the hobby with their shady and scamming tactics . This is a hobby and most hobbies cost money they do not make money. You got it right, just walk right past them.
I buy from eBay so I can check comps and think about the purchase. Whatnot is for the breaks to take a shot in the dark to hit big. I'm not a fan of single card purchases due to the limited time to look up comps. I go to Ebay for my PC cards. That's just me.
My favorite is watching "top 10 pulls of the week" and seeing all the breakers hit 1 of 1's, having no idea it's a 1 of 1 until they finally see it stamped...
I feel like most of the people in the hobby are only in it for the money and not because they are collectors and love the hobby. And I've noticed that a lot of breakers don't even know anything about the players or sports period which is crazy af to me!
34M here. Started January ‘23 because i got COVID and was really obsessed with Scottie Barnes and the 2021 draft class. Ripping is the gateway. I burned a lot of money and a lot of the cards I bought were a form of retail therapy and coping from some BS from work/home. In the end, many cards I bought/bid on are worth less than what I bought them for. But no regrets, I continue to buy after a year of experience and collecting cards is a hobby that will stick with me for a while. Im happy I have the discretionary income to collect and I hope more people will join the hobby(I get times are hard rn). Don’t make the mistake of trying to flip cards like I did. The key is to always buy what you love.
I agree. You have to also consider the social aspect of Whatnot. The big boys put on a real show. They think they’re celebrities and people in chat calling them legends and overpaying because of it. It can be kinda cultish. And from my experience, the bigger the room, the more hype men there are, the less I can trust them. I’ve just seen too much dishonesty in terms of comps. So I avoid the big boys and breaks for the most part. I stick with smaller sellers for singles. There are really good sellers in the app. But I wouldn’t consider those big buys good sellers.
Because most auctions on whatnot run at a minute or less, it doesn’t give people the time to look into comps on the cards they are bidding on and may think it’s more valuable than it is. I could be completely wrong but that’s the vibe I get from it. I still prefer ComC and eBay especially for the documenting of “comps”
I went to Heroescon and I had the same experience too with whatnot sellers running rampant and live-streaming was everywhere. They would get books signed and then go to an empty table and immediately auction them off on whatnot. The whole thing was really shocking to me.
Wassup fellas, great breakdown of the state of the hobby, as usual! I think whatnot sellers are such a pain in the ass to deal with. I've only used it a handfull of times, but the prices even base cards fetch are WAY to high. influencers with thousands of viewers always sell their crap for 10x to 20x the price because so many people are bidding and there's a sense of "value" added because they bought them from someone "famous". for example, a bigger name selling a Wemby base prizm for $200. they hype up the card so much during the auction based on what they THINK they know and not based on comps or pricing history, and some newer collectors trust that advice. then these guys turn around and sell on ebay or at shows and their prices are way too high because thats what THEY paid and they feel entitled to the profits. I saw your short and i agree, i feel like comping cards is dead, i was recently at a show and got yelled at by several vendors for looking up comps because i didn't feel the price was even remotely close. then i read their business card and find out they have a whatnot shop.
Great conversation guys! I think repacks are so popular is because you're guaranteed to hit something giving you a higher floor unlike a random team or PYT break where you can strike out completely.
I’m glad we will see more content in the future. You two are the best. With your channel and your celebrity status within the hobby, you would rake on Whatnot.
I been in for a while and i do enjoy see silver prizm strouds going for hundreds when at the end of the day it sounds to me its alot of new collectors that havent seen a market fluxuation yet .The i dont do comps is usually the people buying the wrong stuff or right stuff too long and not capitalizing on their inventory of stuff.Good video from one seasoned vet to another!
WhatNot has a convenience factor. You are in a stream, decide to buy something auctioned, and then can jist keep adding to your "pile" as the stream continues and shipping costs are the reduced. Repacks suck but a lot of people love to buy into those. It's worse than breaking or opening new boxes/packs. It's wholly impractical for profitablity, which so many are affixed to in the hobby. Just buy the cards you want and let someone else take the risk on hits/misses. Too many mouths to feed in the process.
I’m very new to the hobby and have met some great people on whatnot who have helped me out so much most of the channels are people who actually care about this hobby and the people buying. It’s also much more convenient shipping imo compared to eBay
@@srjwildcat3589 I totally agree the worst thing to come to this hobby as far as thease guys saying whatnot selling high I seen videos of people buying 1/1 s for literally $2 bucks and its mostly sellers selling to sellers

I jumped into SkyB’s whatnot and saw his sales. The comps were not like way above what you can get on eBay. Crazy thing to me is the sheer quantity of sales he acquired in such a short time. If you want to move your inventory, whatnot seems like a good route.
I think repacks are the best value. The cost of wax versus singles sales isn't anywhere close to being good. When you'd join a break in 2018........if you hit any RPA, you made money. Now you have to hit something super rare of the right player to even break even. Now with repacks you obviously don't have a shot at hitting a monster.......but I do feel overall you have a better chance at getting vale back for your money.
Appreciate the deals as always guys! Would love to see you on Whatnot. As someone who has always tried to provide a positive experience for buyers on the platform to offset the negative ones we need more sellers like yourself. Love the discussion about Whatnot - my best take for new or existing users on Whatnot is to view it just like in person show or a LCS, find the ones who you trust and can work with and avoid the ones you can’t.
Its because once you put your info in whatnot its easy to keep swiping on cards you like and since you can't check comps during sudden death auctions its not hard to over pay...and the competition of bidding against other people to win the auction makes it easy to pay more than you normally would

I haven't bought any singles on whatnot, but it's good to know how you can ask the condition of cards live. On eBay, I feel like every time I ask for the condition of the card, the seller tells me to look at the pictures, but there's only so much you can see in a picture...
Congrats guys pretty much the only guys that actually tell it how it is in the card market and don’t try to sell you some bullshit. Keep up the great work great things are coming your way

Found myself bored on a sunday and ended up spending $150 on 3 breaks and didn't pull a single card even though i was charged 20$ for shipping? Made me sick to my stomach and I deleted the app shortly after. Whatnot sucks.
People start auctions with only like 15 seconds, you don’t have time to check eBay for comps, people want the card then will bid up a card because they want it. Also, there is a handful of these bigger streamers who will have someone in there bidding up cards.
Whatnot sellers takes advantage of new people to the hobby… Also whatnot is in the moment spending where users don’t have time to research what they are buying. Id hate to see you sell out your values and go to Whatnot…
That is very true! They try to get new people to join by giving them $10 if you're a first time buyer. I have never liked Whatnot and probably never will. Once I start hearing about Whatnot or hearing someone say they will be on whatnot selling at a certain time or going to a card show to buy cards for a whatnot card show, I IMMEDIATELY shut off!
Main thing with what not is the eye Appeal and the no time to do research on comps, if you think a card looks good you assume a price that is usually incorrect
I occasionally buy on Whatnot, or bid on a break spot, but that's only when I like the breakers and/or I'm familiar with them from other channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TH-cam, etc. Same goes for Fanatics Live. I definitely won't buy from a page that has breakers who are always yelling, trying to constantly fill spots and who makes buyers try to feel bad when an auction goes for lower than they wanted (acting like the buyer got a deal of the century when it was average at best or above average compared to other sales). It's pretty easy to tell which channels are the bad actors and which ones are worth your time. Ultimately I like Whatnot because it's a live interaction with a person, it's like a virtual card shop where sometimes you can make offers on cards and wax, and it's a nice way to try to find some deals/enter breaks for cheap where maybe other places are more expensive.
Dont gamble on repacks. Id rsther get a crappy box from the store than get skewed by some guy that thibks he deserves profit for bagging cards and randomizing them. Ive been finding joy in huntingvvalue boxes looking for eye popping stuff and then listing them on ebay. Some the stuff you see is just so unique and interesting art to look at.
I like eBay auctions. They go really quick and it’s something I’ve been comfortable with. Whatnot, everyone seems to use giveaways to attract an audience.
The reason stuff sells for more on whatnot is because of the instant bids. Ebay is too slow and degens like me bidding at the last second is half the thrill...until I see my bank account at the end of each session!
Ebay is like Uber, sellers/drivers are accountable for every sale/ride that occurs. Whatnot is so open to wrong doings and the platform doesn't support the buyer enough.
I’m a gambling addict who has self banned from casinos and I thought whatnot was just like a simple store type thing but after like 2 days I blew 2000 dollars on there. The breaks are extremely addicting.
I think whatnot is the future for the hobby, if you want to flip cards and collect . Little higher but people share the hobby from the couch in there own house!
Honestly, time and typically better rates. Time as in you don't have to worry about doing it all yourself. Just ship them to the team, and they will handle them. Rates are typically better as the average person doesn't pay for the PSA membership.
I think the biggest things I've seen on Whatnot is this. A. You have extremely big dawg breakers and sellers. B. You have Card shops both big and small. C. You have every day small time guys. I think one of the biggest issues I have is when all of the above run a "big card " sometimes starting at a dollar and it doesnt meet there expectations of what they think it'll go for. Its the old line "its only worth what someone will pay for it". An don't dare bring up recent comps to them or they lose there minds. One way I've seen it done semi successful is a guy on there who runs singles auctions twice a week lists every single card thats up for auction that day and you can pre bid on them. That way if you want to look up recent sales etc put the amount you feel comfortable with and dont go over. That being said a lot of the time when I've checked comps on cards for that show. A lot of whats bought is directly from ebay. So 90-95% of the cards are going for above what he bought them for. So then it becomes a matter of is it a card you really want, and areyou willing to bid over the last comp.
Trading should be encouraged a bit more! I couldn't tell you how many times I've asked vendors to trade and they are completely turned off. What if I'm willing to trade electronics , or jewelry for a card I want.
I sell on whatnot, i have 1k followers so not a big stream or anything but i can say i collect cards i enjoy the hobby but i also sell so i can buy more cards to sell or rip packs or pc build. I have 0 luck on auctions but when i build lots for people to get them good deals my stuff flys
Congratulations to you both and wish you the best on the investments you guys have made and keep making, but remember and don't forget to always be real and stay humble. Deuces..

Main thing with what not is the eye Appeal and the no time to do research on comps, if you think a card looks good you assume a price that is usually incorrect
AWESOME VIDEO!!! ⚾️🔥🏈🔥🏀🔥
Appreciate it!!
The hobby sucks. They price out regular people. It's not about collecting and trading anymore. Just $$$. And if you ain't got it, you ain't playing.
As a kid collecting in the late 60's and early 70's we did it for fun Topps 5 cents 5 cards and gum that was it
Dont gamble on repacks.
Repacks and whatnot are feasting on the younger and less informed collecting crowd.
Congrats 100,000🎉🎉🎉
Congrats
Congrats guys on the 100,000 followers!
Congrats on the 100k Play Button silver plaque! Well well deserved. 🚀
I've never did whatnot, but it seems scammy to me
Forgive my Ignorance, what are the benefits of using a bulk submission compny? Thanks
Honestly, time and typically better rates.
Time as in you don't have to worry about doing it all yourself. Just ship them to the team, and they will handle them.
Rates are typically better as the average person doesn't pay for the PSA membership.
Juice if you purchase something on whatnot I'm pretty sure u get a vod of the break
Congrats on 100K!
Congrats my guy
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
I think Whatnot is a great place to diversify yourself as a seller.
Left what not in early 2022….too addictive & too shady
The Dallas Card show is the same way. About 10% of people are there to actually sell cards. The others are there to feel good about themselves.
love the content!
Trading should be encouraged a bit more! I couldn't tell you how many times I've asked vendors to trade and they are completely turned off. What if I'm willing to trade electronics , or jewelry for a card I want.
Congrats on 100k
I sell on whatnot, i have 1k followers so not a big stream or anything but i can say i collect cards i enjoy the hobby but i also sell so i can buy more cards to sell or rip packs or pc build. I have 0 luck on auctions but when i build lots for people to get them good deals my stuff flys
Congratulations to you both and wish you the best on the investments you guys have made and keep making, but remember and don't forget to always be real and stay humble. Deuces..
