  • Christian Cooper treks into the lush rainforest to meet the bright, boisterous and iconic Puerto Rican Parrot before helping to release seven of them into the wild. Along the way, he kayaks through a bat-filled cave to find the adorable Puerto Rican Tody, climbs into the jungle to lay eyes on one of the world’s most mysterious birds behind a waterfall, and meets a young, deaf pelican on the ocean.
Tune in to brand new episodes of Extraordinary Birder, Mondays at 8pm, only on National Geographic WILD.

Im in PR until July and have the privilege of seeing these parrots, a pair, in a certain tree in a certain town by the ocean! They are extremely chatty and loud! 😁💜

Weppaaa i love my people culture and island ♥️
On his first voyage to the Caribbean in 1492, Columbus noted that flocks of parrots were so abundant they "obscured the sun." Today, more than half of parrot species in the Caribbean have gone extinct.
The Ancient Taino Shamans High Priest Kings used these parrot feathers along with the Macaws to create their headdress. Each feather representing an ancient teaching and wisdom or value, principles, morals, karmas es. to life.

The bird is near to be extinction. People cutting down their habitat, and they are getting hunted down! Everybody should help out this parrot.
