Can the hay I used to lay over grass seedings be applied with leaves, grass clippings and kitchen waste (no meats) to make compost?

When the plants are left intact and bundled up, it's "Hay". But when the seed heads are removed, the plant stalk that's left behind is "Straw", a hollow tube that has many uses, including animal bedding on farms and mulch in gardens. I used "Straw" in my garden beds last year to cover the soil (big bail for $8.00 from the local feed store) and the Straw made a great mulch, stopping sun from getting to the weeds, also reflects sun light upward to give your plants more photosynthesis, it worked great. Last week, I just cleared out my garden beds from last year and put all the broken down straw on my compost pile and mixed it with leaves, coffee grounds, egg shells, and fallen bruised up fruit from the fruit trees and the straw definitely looks like it is breaking down now. If you have a compost pile with a bunch of worms or small bugs keep it moist and try to turn it 2-3 times a week if possible "to mix that Carbon and Nitrogen" as the farmer in the video says.

That would be foolish. It would, ironically, use more fossil fuels if you really stop to think about it.
