Mental toughness was inherently in M.K. She was born with it. Shes a fighter, a competitor, a Champion. Somebody American ladies skating desperately needs right now.
She even puts in a very difficult triple Lutz in this emotionally sensitive and elegant performance. Kwan was arguably the best U.S female skater in history.
@allenglandlawns Anyone who has ever skated knows that the amazing edging that Michelle does in this program, starting at around 2:01, is far from "simple." Likewise the split failing leaf and the spread eagles across nearly the entire length of the ice. Few skaters do moves like this, because they can't. And Michelle was no slouch when it came to jumping, either. She routinely did 6 and 7 triple long programs, which are increasingly rare these days.
I find it hilarious that skating fans are still arguing over Michelle. LOL I guess that says it all about The Kween...this skate was in 98 and it still elicits such a viceral response from viewers. Love it. Love her.
Someone needs to upload the NBC version without commentary, this version with all the chatter just kills me. This is Kwan's peak performance of her career!
If people held the Olympics each year, she would win the most golds in the history. 5 time World champion. 9 time National champion. And robbed at the 98 Olympics.
I felt the music as she skated. That was beautiful. I tried looking for the music on the itune store but couldn't fine it. Can someone help me out please? :-)
What happened to figure skating? They don't have this small competitions anymore. They should have a way to bring it back. Add two or three to help they skaters develop fan base and improve their skating skills before the next competition.
I'll admit that I believe there were times Michelle Kwan was ridiculously overmarked. This was not one of those times. This is the type of performance the judges remembered and continued to score her on even when she wasn't the top competitor.
Michelle kwan finished no lower than 3rd place between 1995 ~ 2004 , her longevity was unreal and great. She was the top skater in her era.....the other skaters like Tara Lipinski, Sarah Hughes, Sasha Cohen and Irina all skated under Michelle's shadow.

wasn't she found to be in the US illegally or something like that? or her visa wasn't renewed or something....yeah read that she had some problems with INS and she had to live outside the US for a while. Heard from my aunt's neighbors mechanic's step brother in law's wife's hairdresser's kid who sits next to the guy on the bus who knows Kwan's car dealer's second cousin that she now owns a knisch stand on Redondo beach.

Her and Kristi Yamaguchi....queens of the ice. Pity that Kristi just couldn't master the triple salchow....Michelle did them all.
@MsGraceGold I uploaded it a few days ago. It isn't the best quality but there is no commentary during the performance.
i actually prefer the 2001 version of this, but this is still one of her absolute best.
