    The TP manga does the hero’s shade justice.
    Twilight Link sees a vision of him as an old man, and he saves TP link after TP Link is impaled. He also shows up in the final battle against Ganondorf to help Link win, in which he tells TP Link: “You’re not my descendant, but I love you as the son I never had. Go my son, save Hyrule”
    The manga ends with TP link seeing the gold wolf in the distance who smiles at him, and TP link runs after him.
    Also Link and Midna kiss in the manga. It’s finally canon, haha

      Zelda is so weird in that it's not descendant lineage, not even reincarnation really just the only series that's like "boy it sure is a coincidence that some random kid with elf ears is born with a specific blonde haircut and fits a green outfit perfectly every century"

      @@spaciouswheat4580 I mean it could be explained that the original link (Skyward sword link) gives a piece of himself every time a new hero is needed.

    • @eonnexus
      @eonnexus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @spaciouswheat4580 From what I can tell, it still is reincarnation, but its weird. Every Link has "the soul of the hero", but that doesn't make up their entire being, its like One-For-All in MHA if you know how that works? So if the stars allign, multiple "Links" can exist at once despite having the same "soul" bar Wind Waker, who genuinely WAS just a coincidence. XD
      In contrast to this, Zelda & Ganondorf seem to have more traditional reincarnation cycles, as Zelda remembers her past lives in the Twilight Princess Manga (and even other timelines apparently? Cuz she and Ganondorf both talk about the adult timeline of Ocarina of Time, which isn't their own, if I'm not miss remembering.) Showing that yes, Zelda is a full reincarnation of Hylia and Ganondorf of Demise. Zelda even seemingly retains her romantic feelings for her OoT/MM Link, who's become the Hero's Shade, so the both of them get closure while TP Link gets to clap Midna's cheeks. XD

  • @RippedSnorlax

    The Hero's Shade makes mention of TP Link sharing his bloodline. Considering TP Link's upbringing as a rancher who owns Epona and knows Epona's song (composed by Malon's mother), it's a pretty common theory that he ended with Malon. However it seems he wasn't able to pass his skills to their kids if that was the case.

    • @Rogar555
      @Rogar555 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That's the thing I would say as well. He got with Malon and started a legacy, but a looming threat happened, and he gave his life to end it. Thus, he never truly taught the skills he learned and becomes Shade in the future, watching his future ancestors until one day, one of them needs his tutelage.

  • @AzureMoebius22
    @AzureMoebius22 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    An interesting theory regarding the Hero's Shade. Some people believe that the singing you hear in Hyrule Field at night is Malon's ghost trying to call out to OoT Link, not wanting to rest until she and Link are reunited.
    As Johnny pointed out, Link's regret was that he never had a successor to pass on his knowledge and experience to, so his ghost being out and about was him trying to find a worthy successor before finally resting himself.

    • @francoperalta5986
      @francoperalta5986 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That or his off spring never grew up to be warriors. But that maybe, Malon was the only singer and that clip sounds like Jun Mizusawa. The voice of the four girls in Ocarina of Time.

  • @Hc2p3n4t4rp
    @Hc2p3n4t4rp ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The Hero Shade said his "regret" is not finishing Ganondorf
    his words were
    I knew he would come back, I trained and created all this techniques so I could face him head on once and for all, but he never returned in my life time, and there was no one I could pass these teachings on, so I bounded my soul to these sounds stones to pass my teaching to the next hero
    essentially, as he put it, he became so strong in his life time that no one was able to match him nor be his apprentice, but understanding the cycle of the hero he knew the next hero would be able to, for they are as blessed as himself

    One thing I love about majora is that for such a depressing game it has probably one of the happiest, most upbeat themes out there for finally triumphing

  • @BML42
    @BML42 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Majora's Mask Fun Fact #36 The Finale: The Moon has a lot of mystery behind it, firstly if you were to take a direct top down view of the map itself, the whole area appears to be in the shape of the mask of Truth, the little dirt grove next to the tree is the smile and the tree itself sits right where the eye of the mask resides, why this is the case we do not know, likely a hint towards the mask itself since as Matt says the Gossip Stones within the moon will tell you where any and all masks are within the game itself, since all masks are required to obtain the Fierce Deity Mask
    The Masked Children themselves seem to represent the memories that Majora's Mask itself obtained from the holders of said mask, as the aptly name moon children are reminiscent of the Mask Salesman themselves (also Matt is half right, in N64 MM they have flat face textures, but in MM3D they were given Happy Mask Salesman's face). However the Children and what they say seem to also lean towards Skull kid's and even Link's backstory a bit, as the Skull kid was someone who had all of their friends leave them and on top of that threatened him when he started causing mischief, and all the Moon Children's Quotes mention the idea of friends and making people happy (which may also tie back to the salesman as well as they mention if link may decide to become a happy mask salesman too)
    As for Link, it is interesting to essentially see children running about being carefree, considering that link himself who at least at the point of MM is around 9-12 years old is likely still processing all the events of Ocarina of Time, having his whole childhood stripped from him in order to save the world, even down to Zelda apologizing for essentially taking away his childhood. The boy had gone through a lot and with little in return aside from a safe future, especially for Majora's Mask Link is a hero mostly on his own volition, he could just do the bare minimum of obtaining the Boss Masks and then head to the moon, but all the masks he obtains are needed by helping people whether it is giving someone some red potion to heal their wounds, helping them protect ones they love, or even help put restless souls to a peaceful sleep. Through all this Link has shown great heroism especially considering due to the 3 day cycle no one will ever remember how he has helped everyone in their own special ways. On top of all this Link is an interloper to this world in a way, this isn't his world and as soon as he saves it he leaves without even a chance to enjoy the carnival (less of course he at least finishes the Indego-go's final concert together for Mikau), the Boy has gone through a lot and done so much for many...I say he at least deserves that hug from Cremia
    The Fierce Deity Mask itself, despite being a transformation mask we truly do not know exactly who this "Fierce Deity" is, however we do have a lot of background information behind it, namely the Fierce Deity Mask is seemingly inspired by Buddhism Wrathful Deities, which are Fierce and Wrathful looking Entities that are out to fight against the vices of man, essentially being a ultimate protector of good who has very horrifying yet powerful appearances. Which for the Fierce Deity itself it makes sense considering how big and powerful it is, the weapon he wields: The Double Helix Blade is even stronger than the Great Fairy Sword and even allows for sword beams for the first time in the 3D games. As for the spirit that may reside within it, the only true word we got about it is according to the developers "The Memories of all the lives of Termina Reside within this Mask" Which seem to imply that the Fierce Deity itself is essentially the manifestation of all the people of Termina combining into a vengeful spirit used to counter against Majora's Mask itself.
    and Lastly Majora's Mask itself, as Matt mentioned, essentially Majora's Mask treats everything and everyone around it like a game, it is never really implied until the final boss but Majora itself is truly an entity of chaos that sees everything as a toy to play with, not helping is the fact that with Skull Kid who enjoyed playing harmless pranks would then turn them into much bigger issues around the world of Termina. The guys aren't far off either, the final boss between Fierce Deity Link and Majora's Mask itself is seemingly revolving around a central main theme between the Skull Kid, the Mask itself, and even Link: Growing up, Link had to grow up to become the hero much earlier than most people are ready for, and the Fierce Deity Mask itself is seemingly a representation of this, from a small child who feared evil to a Tall, Powerful God like Figure whom can combat the greatest evil to protect a land that is not his, the Skull Kid being a perpetual child who got way to far over his head when he first adorn Majora's Mask itself, and finally Majora's Mask Final Boss being the idea of a spoiled Brat whom just wants to play and toy around without ever growing up, leading to Fierce Deity Link to punish the said spoiled child when they throw a tantrum and whine about not having things their way.
    The Final piece I will leave you all with is this: there is a Majora's Mask manga that takes the story of the game to a bit of different directions, it is not very accurate to the game itself and like all Zelda Mangas are considered non-cannon, that being said however the writers of the manga are close friends with series director Anouma and some of their work in the Manga have even inspired many things within the official games for example the Ritos being based on a race of bird people from an extra chapter in the OOT manga that doesn't follow the storyline at all
    Why I mention this is that for the MM Manga, they added a unofficial epilogue mentioning that way back in the past there was a Monster that went by Majora, it was an eastern style draconic boar type of creature that has slain and eaten all warriors who dared to try and pry it's magical armor which is said to grant wishes, one day a man that looked suspiciously like the Fierce Deity came to it and met with the monster, but instead of drawing his blade to try and fight the beast he sought to entertain it, pulling out a drum to play music which caused Majora itself to start dancing, where it would dance for three days and three nights straight, and on the dawn of the fourth day Majora would collapse and die from exhaustion, from there the man would then take his blade and break the beast's armor off, carving it into what we know as Majora's Mask and sealing the beasts magical powers (and potentially spirit) inside of it as he know this wish granting power was heavily cursed and would only bring ruin to the world, so he would plunge it into the deepest darkest depths where the mask may never truly be found again...(least until the Happy Mask Salesman did), and for another lil factoid about the manga, when Fierce Deity Link finally Defeated Majora and it reverted to a mask, instead of the Happy Mask Salesman retrieving it and then leaving, Link (still as Fierce Deity) would actually take a swipe at the Happy Mask Salesman when it tried to Menace Link (yes he actually tried) before Said Happy Mask Salesman would vanish into thin air with Majora's Mask with Fierce Deity's only words being "Begone Troublemaker"
    Pheeeeeeeeeeew, that was a super long one, but I hope that y'all enjoyed the return of SGB and all the Majora's Mask Factoids I was able to offer, I know some may be more compelling than others and I did miss posting em on their initial releases, but I am still happy I was able to get all of these out there for folks, on top of that I hope y'all enjoyed the ride as much as I do, to me Majora's Mask is almost like how Chuggaaconroy feels about Earthbound, it goes beyond being my favorite game of all time and becomes an experience that I felt shaped me into being who I am today, tis why I always enjoy helping others since we all are struggling with our own little problems, and heck tis why I wanted to peruse being a therapist before Switching gears to wanting to be a game developer, I can only hope that someday if I ever make a game it can leave as much of an impact of someone as Majora's Mask did for me.
    Here's to you all who watched this whole journey with me, and here is for SGB's return with a big strong start of their return and so many more Let's Plays to come, thank you all so much and hope you all have a Good Night!

    I always figured it was the fact that the hero’s shade existence is the fact that the hero of time has trauma from BOTH GAMES, after being in two wars … so to speak, he ends up in either a peace time with no real threat to train someone or more likely he died in war living someone as a widow.

    I think it was stated in Hyrule Historia that the TP Link is a descendant of the Hero of Time. So he had a family and a bloodline, but for unknown reasons he never passed his skills down to others and that's why he was filled with regret. The fact that he knows all that shit he teaches you in TP indicates to me (and is my headcanon) that he probably had a long life of adventures and learning that continued throughout his childhood, teenage years, and adulthood. Then at some point he had a family and probably settled down and again, never got around to teaching his skill as a warrior.

    On the topic of Link having regrets in TP, OOT Link has to be the unluckiest one of the incarnation. Either he dies fighting Ganon, gets lost in time after Zelda sends him back to his original timeline or grows up and has regrets of not sharing his knowledge and techniques and couldn't pass on. Won't lie, I headcanon him settling down with Malon or Zelda in the Twilight Princess timeline just so the dude could have a happy life

    Nah, it would be Marin that has more interactions. As she not only goes around, but also goes around places with you. And taking her some places before going to the animal village, there ends up like some talking, or photo shoots in the original, where she interacts with Link. Even her playing that crane minigame, which shows her breaking the rules, grabbing the guy who runs the minigame from behind the counter.
    Besides, there's that moment of her talking to Link about her dreams, of what she wants to do or become. And stuff about her knowing and becoming aware of things happening. Even when talking to her one last time before heading off to the end, she talks as if she knew, which is why she tells Link what she does.

    Honestly for Fierce Deity the idea that the bad guy of the game considers it the bad guy could be a very scary thing. The game itself says that FD is a dark power that matches Majora itself and it is given to you with the idea that it is evening out the scale with the upcoming "game" with Majora. That we know almost nothing about it is even more concerning. It's one of the only transformation masks that has any kind of condition on when or where it can be used and such a massive amount of power that it easily stomps everything it faces without mercy. It is also the only one we get basically zero explanation on.
    What is the fierce deity? Why does it look like Link? What was its nature? Was it a force for good? Was it just as evil as Majora? Outside of the fact that it's a way for them to reuse the adult Link model for something there is a lot of potential lore hidden behind it.

    To add on to the Hero's Shade topic, in the Hyrule Historia, the Link in Twilight Princess is a blood descendant of the Hero of Time Link/Hero's Shade. So Link after Majora's Mask does go on to have a family. The agreed partner is Malon due to Link in Twilight Princess being a ranch hand.

    17:34 I find it fascinating that the Fierce Deity’s mask is Link’s face. It’s like this world sees him (or another incarnation of him) as a god! Not only that, the description say that its dark powers could be as bad as Majora’s and Majora called him the bad guy. Does that mean there was once an incarnation of Link powerful enough to lay waste to another land that we’re not aware of, sealed within this mask?

    • @smashers6971
      @smashers6971 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s moreso that the Fierce Diety is everyone in termina lending Link their power, Majora sees them as the bad guy because they ruined all the fun they caused in Termina.

    • @JJ_R
      @JJ_R ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smashers6971 Okay, I can see that. I just didn’t think that was the case, since not every mask was gained with amicability. Garo’s mask was won in a race, which the original owners begrudgingly awarded to Link. And the All-Night mask was purchased, but the shop owner puts it up for sale, regardless of your connection to Kafei.
      However, every other mask does have hints of good will from those Link helped, whether they were once masks that cursed others, or just gifts for helping out. To sum up, Link was the answer to a lot of Termina’s prayers. In that sense, he was like a god, so that mask was their god, born from their answered prayers.

    Now for the finale and strap yourselves in, cause it’s two long parts thanks for sticking we me through all these skits!:
    *Our heroes surround the Kid wearing Majora’s mask ready for a fight.*
    Masked kid: Will you play...with me?
    *The heroes look at each other before Link hesitatingly nods*
    Masked kid: Let's play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let's play that. You're the bad guys and when you're bad, you just run. That's fine, right?
    *They then grab a small mask resembling Link’s face from their person, and shows it to the group*
    Masked kid: One more thing, the biggest bad guy has to wear this.
    *The group looks at Link as if expecting him to do something.*
    Deku: I think he’s talking about you, Link.
    Darmani: You’ve lead us this far kid, don’t worry about what happens.
    Mikau: We’re with you till the end Little dude.
    *Link hesitates, before smiling.*
    Link: If you guys say so, let’s do this.
    *Link takes the mask from the kid as the world flashes white as only a few words are said.*
    Well… Shall we play?
    ***
    *After the battle with Majora and the departure of the Happy Mask Salesman and giants, our heroes are left in Termina field.*
    Deku: So what now? We saved the world, helped everyone we could.. I feel a little lost.
    Darmani: We go home, see our family and friends after everything we’ve been through. We need all the time in the world to relax.
    *Mikau takes out his guitar smiling.*
    Mikau: Well I got a gig to go to, you guys heading to the carnival later?
    Deku: I’ll probably go with my dad later, maybe the princess as well, who am I kidding she’ll insist on leaving the palace for a few hours.
    Darmani: I’ll probably bring most of the village, the elder deserves a small break from the kid for a bit.
    *Deku looks at Link saddling up on Epona.*
    Deku: What about you Link?
    *Link looks towards the horizon regrettably.*
    Link: I’m leaving termina, I’m going to try to find Navi again.
    *His three friends now gain a solemn look, realizing what that meant,*
    Darmani: Well if you say so kid..
    Mikau: We’ll wish you luck, little dude!
    Deku: Make sure to visit us at least!
    Link nods before riding off, not noticing the tears in his eyes.
    Later Link is staring at the door to Hyrule, the very same place he and Deku entered when they were fused for the first cycle.
    ???: It seems you are at an impass my friend.
    *Link jolts around and sees the Happy Mask Salesman again, still smiling despite everything.*
    Link: Where’d you come from? Never mind, what do you want?
    HMS: Well I feel you’re full of regret of leaving your friends behind, you don’t know what to do.
    *Link nods, now listening to the mysterious man.*
    HMS: So I’ll leave you this question, What is a home? The place you were born? Or a place that you belong, it’s something to think about.
    *Link turns around seeing the Mask Salesman once again disappeared. Before looking back at Hyrule and now deep in thought.*
    *After one last look, he turns around with Epona and heads back into Termina opening the Clock town doors and seeing all the people he’s helped react to his appearance he knew one simple thing.*
    *He was home, and no amount of time travel would change it.*

    this link kinda does have a bittersweet end(outside the awakening one that just gets left at sea by the wind fish/guess the remake tries to alleviate it having him with more supplies & seagull marin implying she's close to guide him but could've at least showed the oracle games lands nearby or zelda picking him up on a ship.).
    as he not only gets taken away from the timeline he saved before he could see everyone or give a goodbye but also leaves at the end to search for navi with it not being known if he ever found her or returned to hyrule at all having regret.(do love the ending image of the skull kids drawing of him & link on the stump/fan art i saw of one with all of link's friends & allies on it.:3)

    Funfact: The area inside the Moon is actually in the shape of the Mask of Truth with the Tree at the Center being the eye of the Mask a neat little secret.
    EDIT: I think it was more the Hero's Shade a.k.a the Hero of Time died with the regrets of never finding a worthy Swordsman to pass on what he learned and you kinda see in Twilight Princess where the Guards weren't nearly brave enough to fight against monsters and the Kingdom temporarily was plunged into Twilight at the End of Twilight princess you See Colin with a Sword and Shield now implying this new Link the Hero of Twilight found someone worthy to pass on what he learned
    Well that's my head canon you're free to agree or disagree

    This is one of my favorite Zelda games of all time. Great atmosphere, great storytelling, the stakes gives you a blood pumping experience that last throughout the entire game. Twilight Princess took a few ideas from this and Ocarina of Time to create a very immersive experience and world. This game made me a full fledged Legend of Zelda fan and I will always cherish this game for it. That said I’m looking forward to when you guys get to Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, especially Twilight Princess because I really want to know what Greg’s beef with the game is but Wind Waker should be a great adventure for you guys. Great job Matt, you had a very different approach to this game than I and most others have but I enjoyed your route through Majora’s Mask. Looking forward to Wind Waker but I believe that the next game would technically be the Oracle games.

    I love this game, as I've said time and time again, it was my first Zelda game I ever played, and John's review from years ago made me become a fan of him. That being said, my favorite 3D Zelda will always be Twilight Princess. I know it doesn't sit well with some fans, but it's not just OoT 2.0 like some will have you think it is. Midna was a great character, and the fact that you fight pretty much the same Ganondorf from OoT but as a different Link was pretty interesting to me as well, also we don't talk about Zant, he's not interesting enough on his own.
    Either way, great LP.

    Majora is such an interesting fight. First phase is showing how the mask latches on and manipulates, second phase is chaos and third phase is evil and cruelty. Just such a strange design and colours too, not alien but so unnatural.
    Not much of a fight mechanically, but what you’re fighting and what you’ve done up until this point masks that (heh) very well
