  • With the situation still tense in the House, officials trying to restore calm.
A session of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) descended into chaos on Monday.
A delegation of MPs from the southern and northern regions called for the implementation of the rotational policy, which would see the next leader of the continental parliament coming from these regions.
The East Africa and Economic Community of West African States opposed this, saying it was not part of the rules and rejected legal advice which supported the implementation of the principle.
The outgoing PAP president Roger Dang is from Cameroon. There are allegations that he has been mobilising for a West African candidate to be elected.
“That is what we are defending, rotation and nothing else. The countries and regions that want to bully us have been doing that for years, and we are saying we have to put a stop to it and allow every region an opportunity to lead this continent,” said Majodina.
The leader of the SA delegation to PAP, Amos Masondo, chair of SA's National Council of Provinces, shared Majodina's sentiment, saying the African Parliament has, over the years, been guided by the work of the AU.
“One of the principles of the AU when it comes to electing leadership is the principle of rotation. That no one, or a few, regions will be allowed to have all the power to run the work of the Pan African Parliament, or have power that cannot be mitigated by the regions that are in place.

It helps in understanding where we come from as Africa and where we are going. PAP will help all Africans to understand and Malema shakes status quo. He drives interest.

We need not generalize, only those who are willing to move with the vision already put forward should join the movement.
Not all Francophone countries want to join France so those who want change in Africa must join Southern Africa and the One Africa movement.

I believe rotation is fair also and if they were told in 2015 there would be rotation and they keep telling them every other year there will be rotation and there is none, then I can see why they are upset. But that does not mean they should act they way they have like in the video and the other videos where they were physically assaulting each other and telling each other they would kill each other when they left the building. That’s not acceptable behaviour for such a professional setting.

It's unpractical at this stage... Don't know about the future. Don't look it from colonial history and dividing of Africa, but look at it from Africa as a 2nd largest continent. Do you know the magnitude of running a continent like a country if you collapse the boarder? I rather will suggest we start at co-operation of Africa, start from intra trade, military alliances, African court, Common African Law/Constitution, Regional & Continental Stock Market, cross boarder transportation, medical centres, Africa Custum/Home Affairs to track criminals and across fugitives across Africa and so forth. Then from that unity and freedom of movement will come naturally when all conditions are met. Start by structural reform like scrapping boarders I think it irresponsible, inconsiderate and dangerous for economically progressive country. Already South Africa is suffering from influx of illegal undocumented migrants who disregard South Africa citizens, laws and boarders to the benefit of their country not paying taxes. This is done not only by African migrants, even Pakistanians and Chinese too

The infighting, harmful threats, and the disrespect being leveled at each other is disgraceful, dysfunctional and shameful. • @IslenoGutierrez

This has nothing to do with colonizers or Chinese, these people have done this themselves. They don’t have respect for each other, they all are shouting at each other with angry voices and I just watched one PAP meeting where they were assaulting each other and fighting on the floor kicking and punching each other while others played tug of war with each other over a white plastic box pushing each other physically. Another one yelled out to his colleague that he was going to kill him when they leave the building. These ways are no way to act in a professional setting and especially not for the leaders of nations. I agree, it’s dysfunctional, disgraceful and shameful. You should be glad you are an American and not an African, at least your nation has order in the courts and is better ran than most of Africa. But I wouldn’t call out “colonizers” in a negative way if I were you when your nation has played colonizer holding its fair share of nations like previously spanish colonized lands like Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines and Guam as well as American Samoa by agreement and the kingdom of Hawaii by force so that would make you a colonizer being you’re an American. Colonization has brought both good things and bad things so it’s a coin toss. But again, colonists are not the problem here in this equation, it’s the Africans themselves acting this way and corruption is way out of control.

It is wrong of West Africa to refuse seat rotation. In all truth, West Africa is the most colonised of all of Africa. They have never been able to dislodge their lips from the asses of the French. A country that continues to cost them so much to date, from minerals to assassinations of its most promising and liberated leaders. It cannot be that people that continue and regularly have military coupes in their own countries are expected to reason logically or even understand the most basic principle of seat rotation. They are not used to it and are therefore bound to refuse the concept/ principle of liberty/ liberations.
We have an all-black room that is filled with Africans arguing in foreign dialect... the irony is thick and rich.
As a continent, we have a long way to go.
