What I would do, get it running well. Completely strip the interior and remove anything that's beyond repair. Fix up the exterior so it's sealed up and looking tidy, then sell it as a blank canvas for a full restoration, hopefully for a profit :)
I like this plan. He said the engine needs to come out, but if she ain't knockin, the bottom end is probably fine. It's a 350 after all! Pull the heads and have the least amount of machine work possible done, do a "tune-up plus" (timing chain, water pump, carb cleanout, belts/hoses) and it'll be running like a top. Should be only a couple hundred bucks... parts don't come cheaper for any engine. Lots of folks out there want a new-inside retro RV but not all have the mechanical experience. I think I'm getting a business idea...
Three minutes in and my vote is clear. There are campgrounds catering to the glamping crowd, if it was made to look authentic it could be rented out like a cabin. Properly presented it could be a popular spot.

I hope you’ll be able to save this motorhome. Perfect blue color the green inside is perfect there’s a lot of potential. Maybe you could raffle it off down the road. I’m not a rich man but I would love to see it come back to life as a camper. I don’t like to see machines die it’s always nice to see them come back to their full potential. I bought a 350 out of an R.V. that had run lean and burned a few pistons to replace a old worn out 305. New slugs and rings and re surfaced heads and that was the best motor ever.
I saw another comment saying to rebuild the engine and strip the entire rv down to bare solid frame structure, reinforce if necessary, get the electronics and breaks and suspension, wheels all tuned up, and sell as an empty rv for someone to put a bed or build their own #vanlife project I like that idea a lot because youve come this far into it, may as well try to get out of it in a cool shared project way If you think putting a bigger motor into that same empty chassis/shell is a good idea, like if its more fuel efficient for the weight, or more powerful for the weight thats cool and then you got that engine to work on for pickle rick lol you got options! either way i reckon that shell RV rebuild is a great idea then you dont have to spend anything on any cabinetry or beds, just a blank shell big van with rebuilt oldschool motor with the cool exterior look of the rv

Great job on the Winnie Brave! Yeah, It's too small for your family but I'm sure someone with a smaller family would love to have it. If you have room in the shed, I would put it to the side and use it as a project piece. You're working on the engine now and when that's done put it to the side for a while before tackling the interior. Nothing fancy, just the basics, get it livable and then as time goes by do something else to. Main thing is as long as it runs and is road safe, there's a buyer out there for it. Have you considered taking out as many parts of the Winnebago that can be repurposed for the RV bus conversion? Then you can choose to rebuild the Winnebago engine and use it in the car. Not sure what to do with the shell and chassis of the Winnebago, scrap it at the worst…..
Those Chevy 350 were good engines, and built to run. Nice work getting this one going. You are probably correct: a 350 is a little small for the weight and wind resistance of the Winnie. It would be a fun project provided you can set it aside until you have the time to invest.

Epic save man.. That's awesome you got it running. I remember my grandfather had an old Chieftan with lots of 'electrical' issues -- The joys of a master electrician (AKA, grandpa) fiddling with stuff when it breaks to 'make it better'.
Your 350 seems rather tired, even without the water getting in it. I noticed some blow by. Definitely time to give it some love. Those small blocks are good engines. I had a 283 that did have a stretched timing chain. I could only time it by ear. Finally did replace the chain. Then took the engine out and put it into another car. No idea how many miles it had on it, it came from another car before I got it. It finally tossed a rod, which is a clue it had many miles on it. That and the stretched timing chain, I guess. It was a nice little engine and we put a lot of miles on it before it blew up.

If they were rusted stuck in the guides, that could explain the damage to push rods when someone tried to get it going - hence loose valve cover bolts.
Omg I can’t believe it started👏🏻 love it! You should rebuild the motor and race it ! At the local racetrack near where I grew up there was and ice cream truck that used to race that thing was fast and hilarious 🤣

When my Uncle retired from the Navy he and my Aunt Bought a 72 Winnebago Indian Mopar 413 V8 4V this was I think around 1976 all they did was put in a Microwave they traveled around for quite a few years towing a 78 Subaru GL Station Wagon they paid cash for both passed away in the last few years and the little Subaru was still going strong
Shes an ol classic in decent shape if its running good and road worthy theres someone who would love to have it to remodel , not anything I think I want to tackle at this stage of life but its the perfect size for one or two people to make a comfortable living RV .
Would be a sick to cut off the body behind the front seats and have a lil ramp truck or “cab over” flat bed, love the vids man, keep up the good work 👍
The great thing about these old Winnies is the fact that the engine bay is so huge you can stuff just about anything you want into them. Including a more modern diesel engine.
It would make a great catering van. I understand how much work it is to redo the interior. Working on a small motorhome now thinking maybe I bit off more than I can chew.
That sure brought back some memories of working on small block chevy’s back in the day. What a great engine! I wouldn’t be surprised if you found the heads had those bigger intake valves. I forgot the exact size, 1.96 maybe. I was hoping to see videos of that Winnebago coming back to life. 😢
Basically get the engine reconditioned/reliable - then pull the interior, but rebuilt it "enough" (make it a clean empty shell) to sell it as a 'project base'. I'm willing to bet you could sell this at a 'reasonable' profit to someone who wants to get into 'van life' or wants to customize their own Winnebago, but doesn't want to have worry about mechanicals, but wants to build out their own bed, get their own appliances arrange their own 'living space'. There are a LOT more folks who have enough carpentry skills to take on, and would want to take on something like that, compared to those are are skilled enough at carpentry AND vehicle mechanics...

Had a 72 Monte Carlo with the same engine. It was my daily driver. It had a bent push rod in cyl. 2. Replaced it and couldn’t see a reason it happened. Figured it would run until it showed me why it bent the rod. A year later it finally showed me, or at least I thought it did. Tore into it and had another bent push rod in a different cylinder. Replaced that one and drove that car for another 60k. Never knew why they failed unless it was just bad push rods.
compresion test , would tell you allot . and a set of good pushrods you could do a leak down test .. check those new pushrods ben see them bent out of the box ..

When you are expecting backfires I think it is worth refitting the air cleaner to contain the flames, especially inside a motor home :) I would give the rusty valves a chance to bed back in before giving up on them - same with blowby and maybe stuck rings. I guess you should get more than your money back if you can sell as a run and drive.
if the Brave interior is too far gone and you love the front end design what about converting it into a car carrier? great for moving project cars around. I'm sure you could do a great job of cutting the body down into a cab and fitting a bed on the back.

I have seen bent pushrods but not broken in two pieces, how does that even happen? Nice cheap fix good job. It's running and driving clean it up some and unload it.

Gut the camper and make it A toy hauler? Cut the back off and keep the front cab to turn it into A rolloff car hauler? Gut it for all the stuff ac fridge toilet shower generator ect ect to build yourself A tiny house on A trailer to use for whatever extra living space use you need it for. Like best bud and Wife are feuding worse than the hatfields and mccoys and he needs A hideout. Just A few ideas.
Turn the Winnebago into a mobile chicken coop - putting your slant on the term "free range chickens". They will definitely have plenty of range. OR you could convert it into a Roach Coach. It definitely appears that any roach would love living in it just the way it is. Looking forward to see what you actually decide to do with it.
Shocked that only had a 350! Thats original? Would you have wanted to drive that up the Colorado mountains with that engine even brand new? From the outside it looks VERY NICE! If you dont wanted to refurbish it as an RV, i would pass it along to someone who does, IMHO. I am guessing a rebuilt 350 is about the cheapest engine going, if you just wanted to buy off the shelf. I would have bet the farm a big block was under the hood.

yeah we have compression loss on 1 and 8 for sure. looks like some head work and a valve job would get it fixed right up!

i suspect what caused all this was valve float, possibly from over speeding the engine, or engine braking down a hill , just my 2c

The 1972 style off the Winnebago is nice. You have to keep an running enigen in, otherwise they will scrap the camper when you sell it.

Turn the Winnebago into a mobile chicken coop - putting your slant on the term "free range chickens". They will definitely have plenty of range. OR you could convert it into a Roach Coach. It definitely appears that any roach would love living in it just the way it is. Looking forward to see what you actually decide to do with it.

Those pushrods bent for some reason. They must don’t bend. I’m going to guess the timing jumped at some point.

You can list that winny on china-bay as parts, a lot of people are restoring those old coaches.
At first I thought.. well thats one way to try to save gas.. turn your V8 into a V6 by removing the pushrods on the two intake valves you like least.

Shocked that only had a 350! Thats original? Would you have wanted to drive that up the Colorado mountains with that engine even brand new? From the outside it looks VERY NICE! If you dont wanted to refurbish it as an RV, i would pass it along to someone who does, IMHO. I am guessing a rebuilt 350 is about the cheapest engine going, if you just wanted to buy off the shelf. I would have bet the farm a big block was under the hood.
