- Join us as we leave the farm to pick up Stormy a beautiful Tennessee Walker that was once abused. For the love of the hoof rescue saved this horse but one of our TH-cam Friends has adopted her and asked us to do some groundwork. She is terrified of touch right so this will be a challenge - but today we bring this beauty back to the farm and start the process of horse training.

Oh WOW!!! You just crossed paths by 1 Degree of Separation from one of my favorite channels and organizations Horse Plus Humane Society!! Very cool---I'll watch for Stormy's progress with interest. So glad For Love of the Hoof was able to take this filly and help re-home her. Long way to go, from Arizona to Tennessee. For the Record, HPHS has a completely open "Return Policy" if any horse doesn't work out for any reason---they'll take them back and work with them some more and do their best to place them with an appropriate level person for the horse. So, I am wondering what the back story is here. There's always more than one side to any story. Best of Luck Stormy and Farm on Route 66~!!!
Horse Plus Humane is my favourite channel too although it's heartbreaking and devastating to watch at times. I watch from Germany 😊

Oh hi Wendy! Happy to see you here! Stormy is beautiful. She is just a baby! Maybe there was some trauma involved in her experiences especially with people surrounding the auction. I can only imagine what she might have gone through! I am sure she will be doing great after 30 days and looking forward to see more from her in the future! Wishing you a speedy recovery 🙏
I'm glad you got her. The volume of slaughter buyers in TN is horrible.
Wendy has a lot of heart. I was disappointed she didn't get as much support not being the main finalist for mentorship. It's a great annual program.
Wendy needs some direction and help with her you tube filming, tools like $ button and editing. I believe her FB is more informative and easier for her to manage.
I'm hoping someone reading this might be able to offer guidance.

I don't understand why that rescue that took her from Horse Plus didn't continue working with her before adopting her out.
I follow Horse Plus Hero's and seen a horse like her with same whit sock on the left leg. A filly they said to be 1 year old and a Appendix Mare they rescued around July 2022. She probably green being so young going through the slaughter also you may want to contact Horse Plus Humane Society TN.
I follow them too and I think you are right. Alan should definetly get in touch with Tawnee or someone from the team.

Just a helpful hint. Extended fingers resemble a horses worst threat… cougar claws. You may find that approaching her with fingers folded under will be less fearful for her. Good luck, she is in good hands!❤️
....do you know how long he's been doing this???? He knows very well how to handle frightened horses. It's more likely his equipment that she fears.
Stormy will be a fun challenge to work with. A good start on the ground will get her going in the right direction and it will be fun to watch her progress. Hope you’re feeling better Allan.

I live in Monument, Colorado. Some times we vacation in Pagosa Springs, which is not too far from Bayfield if I remember correctly . We've probably driven past your farm on our travels. Every few years we vacation in Flagstaff. We loved going to see the Meteor Crater in Windsor. We always go to see the Grand Canyon when we visit AZ.

Confusing messages here. Stormy was rescued by HPHS Horse Plus Humane Society at auction in Tennessee. Cory from HPHS worked with her before The love of Hoof adopted her only to re-home Stormy to a Arizona resident to another adoption. Yes Stormy should be halter broke because Cory worked with her. She trusted Cory. Of course she will hesitate because she is going from place to place. She doesn't know anyone. But she trusted Cory. So here she is. Give her time to get to know her. Try a round pen. Suggestions get her story from Horse plus. See what work was done with her from Cory.

Stormy reminds me of a horse that I grew up riding. He was a good boy and a good friend as well. Sure does bring back memories.

Good start with Stormy. I used to work with horses in my younger years, it was my thought that you could train with grain. Get them hooked on the sound of a metal bucket with grain in it and shook before you let them eat it. Eventually they will do anything when they hear that rattle and get rewarded for complaining a task. Good luck with Stormy.
I was hoping you would use some food to help her trust
Pretty filly. She does look to me like a thoroughbred, considering her build, size, and temperament. She seems very kind and wants to connect. It's too bad that she apparently wasn't handled early. She doesn't look as though she was abused - just not handled.
Edit: After seeing her in today's video, it's apparent that she is probably a Tennessee Walker rather than a thoroughbred. Still a pretty girl.
Something bad happened to her to not trust you! A lot of work and love will bring her around!
Not necessarily on the "bad". She strikes me as being feral. She may have been raised out in a large pasture and never handled.

Wow thats awesome! I have a few Tennesse Walker horses in training right now and I am finding that they are very different than quarter horses but very similar as well. Very sweet horses ☺

There are no slaughter auctions in the state of Tennessee is someone buys a horse there they can take it to slaughter but that can be said for any auction in the United States
@@ericwilliams6915Alan did not get her from Tennessee. She is not a Tennessee Walking horse. She is a quarter horse and thoroughbred filly. I think the person who asked Alan for help training her saved her.
Beautiful horse❤, but reality that's part of life people have to eat too. In fact horse meat is better than beef Less cholesterol but yet people have to eat beef how does that make sense? It's like live on gunk fat foods instead of healthy foods. But people don't get it, they don't understand the part of the purpose, of why God created animals in the first place. Last I knew "humans and horses were created for humans to use horses a's food/ use in general for everyday things, horses were created to not just to live on the landscape but also for hungry humans, and for being used by humans". Hints why we have the type of digestive system. To live on plants and animals. I think if people in America were taught properly especially the meaning of "part of life" they wouldn't get emotional/ butt hurt over horses/ animals in general. Most importantly it would make more sense of saving frogs and toads, they been here way before horses, but yet people don't care, don't care how many frogs and toads rasks their lives hoping across busy traffic roads to go back to their favorite homes spots to have their eggs. Oh right "they ain't classify as pets" smh.

Hate to steal your thunder, Pal, but me and my coworkers at McDonalds invented the McAllen in 1973. We also invented the Really Big Mac using two quarter pounder patties. Also did a photo essay for my photography class called "Life of the Big Mac". Thanks for bringing back memories for this old man.

LOL One of my Support Workers, Mat, every time we go through Maccas for breakfast (every 6 weeks so I can get cash out for my farrier at silly oclock in the morning cos I always forget the night before, and I get a bacon and egg mcmuffin, and Mat gets a sausage and bacon one - in a meal and gets his hash brown and puts it on his muffin.... I shall tell him next week that he is having a McAllan! lol
So all the way in Australia it is being eaten. I tried one - but I dont like their sausage patties, I tried it in the bacon and egg but the texture wasnt right for me.
Hi Wendy!!! I believe I said hi when you were at the auction with Horse Plus through Jasons camera on TH-cam. Was that the Auction this little darling came from? It was the People who put her through the Auction who said she was halter broken, led etc wasnt it? I know Horse Plus wouldnt have said she could do that if she didnt - Tawnee, Jason and Kory wouldnt have let her out of the round pen to go with anyone if she couldnt!
Poor Stormy is so scared isnt she - Do you have a spare bay in a shed at all Allan that you can in wet weather, back up to and have the big cattle panels there to make it a stall?
Those little half steps towards you for a treat in your float/trailer are great.
drive her like crazy.. then she got along with you.. did she not, drive her crazy more, just she stoped and take eys with you..
Untrained people look to you for a example of how to handle horses. you have just served as as a bad example. Nothing could be more dangerous than getting into that enclosed space with horse you don't know with no backup. Your wife could have come out to you being seriously injured or worse. I have found that if you start at the shoulder and work toward the head the horse feels less stress. Good luck!!

She is definitely not aggressive and she seems more like she just don't know what is wanted from her. That is a good start . A pocket full of sugar cubes would work great with her. She truly is a black beauty. To me she doesn't seen fearful really . Her eyes are looking all around and her ears are forward that is a good sign. She could of possibly been a present that was to big she wants attention and full of courage .
Stormy is so pretty. Patience and kindness will go far with her. That is why I love your videos.

They weren't just selling them locally there. They sold them here in PA & MD for a short time also.
we have a sort of "mcallens" in Canada. at Tim Hortons we can buy it in a roll up, bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns and a spicy sauce, all in a tortilla wrap, so tasty.

Most rescues have a "return to them" policy if it doesn't work out.
If you kept on looking at the camera, and not turning to look at her, she would have touched you on the back with her nose. She'll learn to trust you, try it in the round pen

OOPS....I Accidentally hit send too soon 🙄 Anyway Wendy got Stormy at a non profit organization in Tennessee called HORSE RESCUE HERO'S. They are a fantastic organization that goes to auctions usually once a month and rescues anywhere from 15-50 horses at a time. I love their organization because they rescue horses even knowing they won't make it, just so they won't have to go on a slaughter truck 😢 and be horrifically killed. Some are in such horrible condition, you simply can't imagine 😢. They give them a bucket of grain and A LOT of love before they say goodbye, and give them (the last act of kindness) and put them out of their misery 😢. I don't know how people can simply walk away from an animal they used to love, just because they got sick or old. Very sad. Anyway Alen, I just thought I'd let you know where Wendy got Stormy. And now that she's in your care, for 30 days or so (to gentle her) I know you will find her a forever home. Hope you're feeling better 🙏 and Blessings to you all 🙌 Jennifer

She is a typical walking horse they are nervy. Chances are coming from Tennessee she has probably had a saddle on her already. Their psychological make up is different than most horses.

She's very pretty. A little thin but maybe she has a delicate build. Someone must have been hitting her for her to be so afraid of your hand. At least she knows now that a hand can have treats. I heard somewhere that an open palm looks like a predator, maybe a paw with claws, to a horse because they are food to predators, and that the back of the hand is less fearful. I don't know, really, all I know about horse training is what I learn from folks such as yourself.
Isn't this interesting .... I actually don't know diddly about horses but, like an u socialized cat, when I've come across them on thier side of a fence I let them smell me while I'm talking to them. Often its a shoulder and arm to the fence and then a downward palm where thier eyes seem to be able to track or see it.
