    I apologize if I sound clueless but why were they so excited at the beginning when they opened their envelopes? Was it their MOS (career choice) or something?

      It was Branch Night - when the Firsties find out which Branch (i.e. Infantry, Aviation, Armor, etc.) they have been assigned to.

    • @theguy6082

      tepeh789 do they get a choice or is it chosen for them?

    • @tepeh789
      @tepeh789 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      TheGuy A combination of both. During the cow Year (3rd year) cadets will select in order of preference the branches where they would like to serve. Based upon a combination of their personal preferences, their academic, physical and military performance scores, as well the needs of the Army in terms of slots available, they will be ranked and selected for a branch. Later on in the year, on Post Night, they will similarly select where their first post will be.

      Yea there is a difference in being a Warrant Officer and an Officer. A Warrant is someone based on a single MOS or Job like Information technology or Aviation or so forth. An officer kind of has a choice on where they want to go by putting it in but the army kind of chooses for you.

    In an answer to the Y.T. post Cheeseball 47 the excitement when the cadet opened his envelope meant he got his first choice of duty station! It's kind of not guaranteed especially when your going to be a soldier. I was happy that he got what he wanted. I'm a U.S. Army veteran.

    How was the application process and what was your gpa in high school. Did they focus more on character and physical fitness or grades

    • @pollohermano5357
      @pollohermano5357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They focus on everything, but do not worry too much about your GPA honestly. I received an LOA for Class of 2023 (I graduate high school '19) and I did not have an outstanding GPA by the academies' standards (I have a 3.75). Test scores were very good though. Character is huge - emphasize it, and make sure you have leadership stuff to stick out on your resume. As for physical fitness: be a varsity captain of a sport, if not at least on a varsity team (or two). I was captain of my volleyball varsity team and was on varsity all four years. But physical fitness overall - not a huge factor whatsoever. Your CFA counts for 10% I believe. You don't need to max out every single test (not that it would not hurt), but definitely make sure you do a little more than just pass it. Good luck :)

      @waltsears 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, a decent GPA is important, but a balance of academics, athletics and civic leadership are what really matter. Go Army! Beat Navy!
