Some exclusive gameplay footage of her just came and showcased a few new things, while basically confirming that double airdash is gone. I made a community post about my thoughts on all of that if anyone is interested in reading it. It seemed a little long to do as a reply to this video, but the TLDR is, no double airdash, she does have one special air tool in her fire bubble projectile that does some airstalling and for some reason you can have both fish active at once.
It's true, and they only ever showed her airdash in a situation where she would have no reason to use a second one. I'm praying for it myself, but I'm not holding out hope anymore
Yeah, its all we've got to do right now. I'm trying to keep an open mind though because she has a lot of cool new stuff even though shes pretty changed.
I appreciate the juggle combos that they enabled by removing teching and nerfing air play so much, but its very different, and sometimes I just want to air dash without always losing to every single 6p if the opponent is paying attention
Watching your +R Dizzy gameplay reminds me why i fell in love with the character in the first place. Here's hoping she still has her double airdash! If she doesnt, im gonna tell myself that she can still do it, but her new (incredibly awesome) dress is weighing her down
While people are dooming over Wings of Light, truthers know Michael Sword H is going to be the real problem child of her kit- Mist Finer, but literally fullscreen. And even if she is annoying to play against, I have a feeling she isn't going to be a long term pick now that she's moved to a more passive zoner role which just isn't an archetype many people want to play like with Slayer.
Thank you very much! Look forward to it in November, I'm thinking maybe 2 weeks after Dizzy launches, but I might post it earlier if I get a burst of motivation.
More input variety is more fun. Strive turns into quarter circle simulator if you remove DPs and Supers just like DBFZ and Persona. They could definetly add more variety than that. The way SnK seems to go with the new Fatal Fury feels more varied while also simplifying some of the more infamous inputs. Strive's homogenization and linearity in regards to motion inputs and characters' gameplay is definetly one of its biggest flaws and I hope they improve on that if we ever get a new GG.
Agreed. I get where people are coming from with liking more simple inputs, but its just not as interesting to me. It's my second biggest problem with 2XKO is that all the specials are one button. It's not a deal breaker by any means but its just less enjoyable to me
@@garharu9886 Same for me. And I can accept it with 2XKO as it's a new game. But when existing IPs simplify too much or when this becomes a trend in the whole genre (my only concern with the "success" of Modern Controls in SF6 and potential success of 2XKO)
Wings definitely looks like a gimmick, and yet so many people seem to think it is going to be busted. Honestly the only other use it may have is using it to cancel the recovery of other moves, but it is hard to tell if it is fast enough to be used that way. Freezing opponents is going to be way better, I expect people will find incredibly nasty mixups and setups that can be done after freezing the opponent. Two things I am curios about is what happens if she hits with a freezing move on wall break, and what kind of wild assault does she have.
As someone who has played Justice quite a bit in +R, honestly I feel like Dizzy might be the character to fully get me into Strive But also I do wish Michael Sword was still half circle forward because like, I dunno if this makes sense but it makes it *feel* more like you're swinging the Michael Sword since Justice does a long swing back-to-front like the input itself
I didn't even think about how wings of light does basically the same damage as gamma ray but has weird conditions, can't be combo'ed into, and doesn't kill the opponent on its own even though it costs the same amount of meter. I also really wish they had made 4 fish and Michael Sword would feel more comfortable as a 236 input if they really had to simplify it, so it's unfortunate that the slots where more fish could go are taken up by Michael Sword
It's very strange. Truly my initial reaction when I first watched this starter guide was confusion more than anything. That's part of why it took me a bit longer to get this video out compared to some other creators. I took an hour and a half to talk over everything with my friends who play or know about Guilty Gear. After enough time I'm going to give it a chance, but the fish changes really do bother me, that's the one that sticks. All of my other gripes kind of faded away (at least until I can play her) but the new fish truly suck.
i hope we do get double AD, and i don’t like wings much either, it feels like a weird way to turn screen control into damage without giving her any mix. but other than that, i’m happy
What inputs remain for her would be: QCF P, DP on all buttons, HC on all buttons, also any other rekka option they could add, or change michael sword to HC in the future leading to QCB S and HS available. Also something interesting of the video is that they didn't show her WA (its probably Blue)
Yeah, I feel you about the loss of fish and a potential loss of double air dash. They looked kind of fun in Xrd, though I am only dipping my toes into it and haven't experienced hell yet lol. And I agree about the Wings of Light. I feel like it's supposed to be a tool to force your opponent to engage and find ways to escape blockstrings from the risk of unavoidable damage, and instead take risks at escaping pressure and potentially having to deal with a threat of a full combo. But I'm not nearly good enough to speak on these matters with any degree of confidence. Still, it's quite awesome that you found aspects of the character that you enjoy nonetheless!
YES. My friend and I were talking afterwards and he looks like Earthworm Jim, the worms from "Worms," and the damn Nematodes from Spongebob. That animation look so goofy
wings of light feels like daisuke trying to make up for hemijack unfortunately, 5 second unblockable setplay is flawed from the outset and have only ever 'worked' on roboky so far mainly because roboky is the only one that doesnt force you to win multiple interactions in order to cash out
Hemijack.... what a move. I forgot about that garbage super lmao. Honestly I wouldn't mind Wings of Light so much if it was just tacked on at the end, but with so few special moves it feels like it took the place of something more interesting and likely less frustrating.
loved your dizzy videos! Who do you think is an example of a character that got significantly better since the previous version, in terms of gameplay design?
I'm going to talk in more detail about them when I make a full history video but in my opinion I would say that (current balance aside) Baiken is at least equally interesting and I personally find her more interesting in Strive than her older versions. I also think that they removed a lot of fluff from Sol making his important hits feel more impactful, with the only real downside in my opinion being the removal of his iconic dragon install. The last super obvious one is Jack-O, that character was a mess in Xrd and she's actually a pretty well designed, if oppressive, character in Strive. Those are the three that instantly stand out to me, but there's some good arguments for positive changes across many other characters too.
I don't think the WoL wall break strat will work. Absolutely no other timer ticks down while the wall break animation plays, so it won't waste quite as much time as you might think.
I hope you're right, but even if that's true, it still seems like the best use case for the move. It lets you activate and get some time ticked down for free, and if you do a combo like that in a situation where you can wall break with a super, you still get access to strong midscreen oki to force them to block for a while giving you even more time while you regen all of that meter using positive bonus. Its the best case I can think of for that weird move at least.
Like everyone I knew she was gonna be in the game eventually, but I didn’t give a shit about her until I saw JUST HOW FUCKING BEAUTIFUL SHE WAS LIKE HOLY
Dizzy in Strive make me sad a little. No iad, no crossups, slow as f... More sad i became when realise that old gg not coming back at all. With horror waiting for Jam release(someday?)
Its shocking that Jam isn't in Strive yet. Her and Venom are the only characters left from way back in GGX that aren't in ST, but at least Venom got announced for this season, and yeah, the lack of crossups is a real bummer. I always loved being able to set up a potential crossup or same side using a laser fish with my air movement.
I feel it. I sucked for a long time, and still suck in the older games when I'm not focused, but I've always preferred characters with lots of room for expression and improvement, and I find Strive either has massively easy characters where its best to keep trying to circle back to the same basic string over and over again, or really weird tight timing characters that also require you to deal with a resource, RNG, and strange specific important hits in order to execute your gameplan. Not that it's really a fault of the game, but I prefer characters more in the middle of difficulty and felt like Dizzy slotted in that space in the previous games.
Agree on all points especially about the fish and special moves. Im still gonna play her but im already feeling bad about the moveset same as i did with Testament...once i saw noy Hitomi, Warrant, Zeinist and Badlands i was so sad 😢
Ohhhh man. When I do start making my history series, Testament is going to be a tough one not to complain about. I like Strive Testament, but XX Testament was peak fun (and very strong, but even the earlier versions before Badlands was added where they sucked I still greatly enjoyed). I really loved the trap setups and how with good foresight you could set up a wall of stuff that allowed you to massively extend your combos, only to end in either poisoning them or getting 3 dolls for better future combos. As nice as new Testament is, I really miss the old design. It's why I was praying that Dizzy would go unchanged, I've always liked her, Testament, and Justice, so it seems I'm doomed to have my characters be massively reworked or never appear in ST. At least they're still interesting.
No, but they also didn't talk about it, and the only clip they showed her airdashing in, it looked standard. It's not 100% confirmed, but with all of the other changes I think its more like that they did, rather than didn't.
she's doing way too much damage for how much utility she has. like for slayer it makes sense because he's always been doing big damage and he doesn't have anything to mitigate zoning other than just approaching any way he can. but dizzy has so much shit and so many ways to zone you out and play really safely yet she gets just as much damage if not more which is just such an L.
In my honest opinion Guilty Gear Strive feels like such a boring game compared to the more hype feeling games such as accent core give with the personality, intros, complexity, all of that
Gameplay wise I find myself liking all the games for different reasons, but the older games with the unique intros you mentioned, as well as IK moves and unlockable characters really had a lot more flavor that I feel Strive is missing.
Your making a lot a very final comment considering you haven't played her yet like we aren't going to know if wings are good until a weak or two in to her being out and considering it's a set up a pressure tool it will probably still see innovation months later
It's just more engaging to talk that way, I could dance around things and try to talk about every angle, but you're entirely correct that there are many things we don't know and probably many ways to play that I haven't thought of, things that I'll need to play her to understand. This is mostly just giving my thoughts after having 3 hours to digest the starter guide, and knowing how Strive plays, but for all I know my opinion could entirely change after a month of playing her.
stop being so vapid and caring about the visuals. I hate the new design and I think the old one is always better but I am still going to play her because I am not that surface level and shallow
