      @HoolyDooly-si2zz I've seen them go on super steep hills and all kinds of terrain and they're pretty stable. But they can get high centered if you go over a log or something which is annoying

    • @EmpoweredPara

      @HoolyDooly-si2zz you're screwed if you get stuck lol. But I'm screwed if I get stuck in my wheelchair too. Just the nature of disability. There will always be limitations to the tools that give us more independence, but they are better than no independence or freedom at all. If we stopped using mobility aids because they sometimes fail then what a sad world it would be for people like me:)

    Absolutely a real asset for us in wheelchairs. I’d love to own one and be able to go back into the bush hunting again, it would be a dream come true for me. Even seeing nature again in person would be something I haven’t been able to do for 20+ years.
    When I was able bodied I spent so much time in the outdoors fishing hunting and snowshoeing, that has all been taken away. Maybe some day these will be provided by insurance companies or government funding ( not holding my breath) wishful thinking to have a huge part of my life back.

    very cool channel you got..
    just some advice...
    l'm a C5-6 Quad and l use an extreme x8 4x4 chair, benefits of it are because its more narrow it can be used in and outside. also has a tilt feature.. but the down side is that its narrow and more prone to feeling like it wants to tip over.. but keep a level head don't panic and you'll be okay... and finally after 10yrs l ended up putting it on its side just a few days ago.. because of a washout rut..
    but it does take a pretty steep side hill decently and as for a hill like that, it'll cruise up it without it rocking back like that one did, but if the wheelie bars were lower on that chair it would still tip back as easy but only go as far back till those wheel touched. but it'll still feel like a rocking chair due to the short wheelbase and triangle shape of the tracks, and if the wheels are lower you'll lose the height advantage to drive over things.. and honestly l don't care what that guy said it tipping that far that easy is a BIG problem, because if its going to rock and tip back going up its going to do the same thing on the way down, especially if you were to stop or slow down, and there's no safety stop for falling forward.
    also the way the track was skipping over the sprocket teeth when your buddy was backing up the hill, you'd really not want a track to fall off.. not fun to put back on unless you know what you're doing and you got help.
    lf it can't go up hill forward just going backwards is not the solution
    So if you did tip back to the point where your feet are not going to come back down you're going to flip right over unless you luck out and land on the wheelie bars but damn that's an "if" l wouldn't risk. and l've done some crazy things.. and could probably write a do's and don't manual.
    l've also climbed steeper hills just by the more forward l tilt the seat of the chair. it also has no real problems driving straight up and over obstacle like the beams around that playground without getting hung up.
    but this has been a long enough comment as it is..
    Hope this info is helpful in some way
    And in the 25yrs of being paralyzed l've learned a few things,
    lf anybody needs more info or wants to ask me something l'm an open book about chair advice, cheers

    • @EmpoweredPara
      @EmpoweredPara  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That was all super helpful information! Thank you so much for taking the time to give such great feedback! Can you provide a link to the chair you have?
      I am not sure I would ever be brqce enough to take any all terrain wheelchair to a place that was capable of tipping it lol. I would not have done any of the stuff in the video without many capable able bodied humans there lol.
      I definitely don't want to take dumb chances. I enjoy waking up on this side if the grave!

    • @uncle-beej4385
      @uncle-beej4385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmpoweredPara no prob... l like to help where l can, and l've seen my share of things and products that's supposed to help but don't. and yes, l agree this side of the grave is better than the alternative, that's another reason l commented because l know what works and what doesn't, especially from a safety point of view for us wheelchair user. l'm not saying l'm an expert but l do know a fair bit, and if l can help someone in a small way that's new to off-roading l'll do my best. because none of these types of chairs are cheap at all... nothing deemed medical is. so, if you're going to spend money on something like this it should have at least a dual use. not just sit in your garage till the next time you're going to use it.
      The X8 would be a decent all-around chair, and if you watch where you go and avoid things like a washed-out rut which l hit as l was exploring an area with tall grass, you'll be golden and have a lot of fun.
      it also has two features
      1. you can tilt back and relax
      2. it also can lift from the seat pan raising your entire body into the air so you can reach things higher up
      and if you or anyone else needs or what's to ask me something just send me a message
      Take Care

      You simply don’t know what you don’t know. Neither did she get a good explanation of the other features of the track chair. The seat has an electric hydraulic ram that allows you to tilt the seat forward (lean forward) while going up hills, and tilt the seat back (lean back) when descending hills. I’ve had my track chair over 10 years now. And I have only flipped it over backwards once and forward once. But I’m a risk taker, and was finding out the limits the hard way, kinda knew that I was going to get tossed out of the chair in those instances. And in regards to her friends track chair skipping on the sprocket, I’m not sure what the issue was there. But I’ve never even came close to derailing a track. The way the track and idler/bogey wheels and the drive sprockets are designed, makes it almost impossible to derail the tracks. And I’ve definitely put it through it a lot of terrain that has certainly tested the limits. I have thousands of hour’s operating track skid steers and mini excavator, and I’ve derailed the tracks on track skid steers, but figured out what I did wrong to make it pop off the track with that machine. I’ve deliberately made the same maneuver on my track chair and its rock solid.

    • @uncle-beej4385
      @uncle-beej4385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Maddog165 Sorry bud, but l am no amateur when it comes to this stuff, l've got 24yrs dealing with wheelchairs 10yrs with my x8 alone, that tipped over only because l hit a rut going down a hiking trail that was overgrown... and before my wreck, l ran excavators and dozers, a few skid steers. scrapers, loaders and tractors with and without a boggie wheel set up for tracks, l also drove truck.. not to mention the atv's and snowmachines l had and still have, anyway, toss a track off a d7 or worse a d8 and you'll find the limits... and you'll know why that track was skipping... especially from a mechanics point of view
      so, the issue was that he was going up the hill backwards on an angle which put all the weight on the one side of the chair, that's why it was skipping over the top sprocket, because it doesn't seem to have guides to keep it in place... and they're rubber tracks. and the last 3 chairs l've had all have had the tilt feature... l've put my x8 on not quite a 40 degree angle forwards and backwards without tipping it.. l also pull a 48' inch cut dr. mower with it to cut my yard which is around 5-6 acres, hills slanted ditches you name l got it... and l'm a quadriplegic whose got limited function in my upper body... so l do my homework and study anything l'm going to be using
      and so, you saying you've flipped that chair both backwards and forwards proves my point it has stability issues... it's a high centered machine with a short wheelbase... and you'll never be able to put the same stress load on a track chair as you did in a excavator... and l bet you still got the wheel bars on it... as l've took mine off because they were getting in the way of climbing over and up things... not that it stopped me l just got tired of them being dragged over stuff... also it got hung up crossing what seemed like barely a beam so it also has ground clearance problems..
      but hey if it works for you that's great, l happy for you... not being rude or an asshole either, its hard to find a chair that'll take a beating and ask for more
      but there are people out there that will also see the flaws in an ex-bomb disposal unit converted to a mobility chair as l did... instead of a purpose-built mobility chair

    How did you get the lettres of your hat on backwards? That's really talented!
    I want to hear more about this bomb disposal unit.
    Hint...when going up hill (or down)...go at an angle (or backwards to go up). I never would have thought of Johnny-5.

    I have an ST $14k + $3k in options I've used my chair 3Xs in 5 years I don't know which model you tested but my advice to anyone looking for an off road wheelchair DO NOT buy the ST it has 0 suspension 30min off road will have your back hurting for days and that's tackling obstacles and off road the right low speed. Works well on sand snow and mud hard surfaces are a nogo in my experience.

      I have had my track chair for over 10 years now. About 8 months after my spinal cord injury, and I’ve taken it on trails with big tree roots on trail, also on very rocky trails, mud, snow and sand. Mine has zero suspension too and I’ve never had and sore back problems from using it.

      @Brian Murrock what level of injury? I'm a C6 Quad if your injury is higher you might not have as much sensation and if it's lower you probably have more mobility and control over your core so it's not just dead weight absorbing every bump. If I punch you in the stomach twice but 1 time you brace your core 1 you don't they will both hurt but not bracing your core will hurt more.

    I love the chair, yet I know they are a little pricey? I need to get me an electric chair or scooter so I can get out of my house more often and even make a run to the local grocery store on my own. Who knows, I could even motor a mile or two to the neighborhood pond and do some fishing.😀😃😄😁
