I love how we're instantly thrown into the chaos & panic of it all. Romero questions the pacing of the film but I think its perfect. It starts big & ends big with a whole lotta fun inbetween. Romero sure knwos how lucky he was to have that huge Mall as the main set. Its such a big part of the films identity. It gives the film levels of meaning.
It should be explained that " Zombie" is Dawn of the Dead presented by Dario Argento. Argento helped Romero fund this movie. In return, Argento was given premission from George Romero to have the right to the European cut of Dawn of the Dead Dario wanted all the music to be preformed by "Goblin" and he wanted a more serious tone to this version.
I'm truly impressed by the darker tonality-or "feel," if you will-of Argento's cut. Largely this results from the original Goblin score, plus many variant framings and edits. Quite an experience! Frankly, this is now my preferred version. Thanks!

This is so cool, dawn of the dead is not only my favorite zombie movie it's my favorite movie in general. I'm a massive movie dork and i own thousands of movies of all different genres, but dawn is top i watch it like twice a month and have been doing that for over 35 years so that gives you an idea of how many times i have seen it. It's way cool to find content i didn't know and i have never heard this commentary before. Way cool getting to hear mike gornic talk about this film. I was born in 1977 and this show has been with me since the beginning, my older brother loves zombie movies and introduced me to these as a little kid and they blew my mind. I appreciate the upload and all the cool romero content you upload for all us romero nerds i never get enough. So thanks again for all the entertainment you provide. Romero was, is, and always will be king.

@@dannyjamesband night riders, martin and the crazies are all good ones and he has plenty of great shows but in my comment i was more referring to 4 zombie movies he made that are my 4 favorite of all times. Night of the living dead 1968, dawn of the dead 1978, day of the dead 1985 and land of the dead 2004. He has 2 other zombie flicks called diary of the dead and survival of the dead but they are not as good. The four i named with the years are some of the greatest zombie movies ever made. If you like zombie movies i highly recommend them

Always awesome to find Romero content like this that I haven't seen/heard before! I really need to get a region free blu ray player to watch the supplements like this. I have the second sight set but its supplements are region b locked too. Some of second sight's discs have tricks around the region locking but haven't been able to find one for their Dawn supplement disc.
That second sight set was the catalyst For me to finally break down and get a region free player. It was worth every penny. Literally opens up a whole new world.

That does have the Italian cut on it but with commentary with Foree, Reiniger, Gaylen and Emge. Another great commentary. This commentary is from the French 40th Anniversary box set.
I dont think its ideal to give another director creative rights to re-edit your film. But I understand these were different times & Romero was still not a big name in films in 1978. Well at least not in terms of being a big money maker. His few films were more marginal. Acquired taste. So investors were not lining up. But decades down the line even Romero became confused by how many versions there are of the film. In addition different countries censored certain parts.
