Pah! What do art teachers know? 🙃 I never understand why teachers are so negative. My 3rd year teacher put me off drawing until adulthood. Then I did my degree and my painting tutor was amazing! So supportive when showing me me where I could improve, and I feel back in love with painting again. 😊 I love your sketchbook - the birds are beautiful! I have some R&L Gouache as well as some Aquafine Gouache and you've inspired me to get busy with them again. 😊 I think both versions of this painting are fantastic. I especially like the firey oranges of the tree in the updated painting. 😊
Thank you so much Gaina xx I wonder if adults realise what a profound impact their words can have on us. I once won a colouring book of animals (I was about 5 or 6), and my beautiful mother said we would colour it together. Well, I waited as long as I could, but I really wanted to start, so I started with the first picture, a pretty complicated tiger stalking through jungle. I decided he was going to be purple and green, and he was looking awesome. Then my mother came into my room and saw me colouring, "Oh, you've ruined it" she said...and I know now that she didn't mean it like that, she just meant if I'd waited like she said, she'd have helped me pick the colours and it would have been more accurate/realistic...but I'd been really happy with my picture until then. I closed the book, and hid it at the back of my cupboard and I never coloured in it ever again :( I really love the Skillshare class that the Folk Art birds come from, Julia demonstrates them in watercolour and gouache and they are so gorgeous. I'm glad you like my paintings, I always love my originals and I was very pleased that this inexpensive gouache could create such a range of hues and values...that orange tree is very flamey isn't it :) xx

I wish i had art from 30 years ago to redraw but at 11, most of it got chucked in the bin thinking it was rubbish lol
