Your introduction on right hand position was exactly how my teacher told me almost 35 years ago, i made it a habit, and never failed me. Knowledge is passing trough generations. Nice.
Recieved "STARSHINE"pdf July 13,2022. My first composed tremelo exercise ever. Study etude today 2/26/2023 as an (absolute beginner)with 8 months of daily practice and the ability to just barely use the lesson as classical guitar study. The "STARSHINE" composition lights the way and your light shines on me now. Thank You
It's not easy, I know, been practicing tremelo for years and don't think it will ever be consistent, but sometimes ,when no one is listening, it just flows , but not at will, maybe just luck. Great to see a lady keeping classical guitar alive.
The most difficult part of tremolo technique is how to portray the fellings behind in each piece, anyway thanks the method teaching master the technique. We play classical guitar for years so glad young and pretty ladies willing to share this treasures.多谢你!
Great tutorial and good to know people value the guitar as an instrument. Your learning a very proper and valuable style of playing. Classical provides a deep understanding the theory of music.
Nice tutorial!! Very informative, insightful tips for a challenging technique! Plus an attainable, original piece to play instead of the alternative of possibly being overwhelmed by Recuerdos and/or Limosna.
Very helpful indeed, Thank you for taking the time to teach us property. I watched about 10 videos about tremolos before I found yours, but everyone was very fast.
Hannah, I am an old man, but I am learning much from you, including this video on the basics of tremolo. You mentioned an advanced lesson... if/when you ever have time again. :)
Though I learnt classical guitar with a teacher who was Narciso Yepes` apprentice here in Argentina... I could never grow my nails hard enough for them to play really fast... They just kept breaking and breaking no matter how much warm sunflower oil I dipped them in. I kept playing electric guitar and bass... Today I play a lot of speedy things from metal shredders like Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Walter Giardino. But I know someday I`ll buy a classical guitar and start once again with the right hand technique exercises at full speed... My mother comes from Spain and she was born in Gallaecia... not too far from Asturias. So you could say I have it running in my blood. Nice video, really helpful and wonderful insight on this difficult art. You`re a wonderful tutor. Greetings from Argentina!!
Hi Hannah! My name is Andrés, I'm a guitarist and Argentinian! I thank you for the information you give in this video! They helped me to unlock the tremolo and take a step forward with this beautiful technique! I really can't put into words what you helped me. Although it was months of work to do it, I feel that these exercises helped me to move forward with greater fluidity when playing the tremolo! I don't play as well as you do! I hope one day to become as good a guitarist as you! A big hug from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
Thank you Hannah. I have seen many tremolo tutorials but I must admit your approach has really helped me.I guess one is better off with a metronome to have a smooth approach
BTW, the intro you played at the beginning was wonderful! I could only hope to do tremelo as well as you, and so softly, too! Awesome! And I liked how you said (in another video) "the world can create all kinds of reasons for you to not become a musician, but if you work through it, you'll be rewarded in ways you couldn't imagine." (Paraphrased a bit, I think.) That's very encouraging! It inspires me. Good lesson, thank you! Jeffro 🤪
Hannah, This was so helpful to introduce me to tremelo. I have avoided such pieces but I will start practicing the exercises you showed an work on your piece. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Hannah thanks for the exercise you compose for us. I have progressed a lot with my tremolo after your encouragement. I can play the whole Recuerdos now. It's not brilliant yet, but after a few more months of polishing I think it will be reasonably good. During my learning process, I found that the last bit of Recuerdos is good for starting the tremolo exercise as it has easy LH fingering. The 2nd easy LH bit is from the beginning of the major part till the end. That's to say that the major is a lot easier to start with. The minor part, which is the beginning, has difficult LH stretch which take a few months for the fingers to get used to. I think that should be left till the end. The slurs can also be ignored at the beginning, until we can play reasonably well.
I know that I am in no way qualified to try and advise you on how to improve your technique, so I just wanted to SHARE with you something I read in the Aguado method. He teaches to stop directly behind the fret (as much as comfortably possible) because it requires the least amount of energy when compared to, for example, stopping in the middle of the frets. So that you can have more energy to play longer, and so you don't have to press too hard in general. The more relaxed, the better, right? It requires so little pressure. I thought, just in case you didn't know this, that you might want to know. I only noticed this towards the end, when you played your ballad. ( I type these words humbly and respectfully to you.) I appreciate you teaching us this technique. Your performances are always precious and so very peaceful. It's like heaven. GB you and Phil.
I badly burned the tip of my index finger a few weeks ago. I can still softly chord, no quick changes, and absolutely no lead work. I thought to myself, how can I still practice guitar discipline with my limited mobility? So I focused on my right hand and it led me to classical tremolo picking. I love it and I would have never known. Life is funny. I don't really have the nails for it so the attack is not as pronounced but it's still fun. I look forward to learning this
Hi Hanna... Thanks for providing the tremolo practice song "Starshine". It's my go-to practice piece when I want to spend a few minutes several times a week focusing on tremolo. I love the final powerful final C-Chord in bar 19. It sounds like that big stong sound a symphony orchestra makes as it's final "note" (chord). I guess this is why guitar is sometimes called "an orchestra in a box", as it can emote that feeling of an entire syphony orchestra in a single instrument. Thank you again!
Thank you, Hannah, for the lesson. I try to learn playing guitar on my own and I didn't know the french names are used: P (Pouce/Thumb); I (Index); M( Majeur/Middle finger); A(Annulaire/Ring finger). Music is somewhat universal! :)
@@HannahMurphyguitar thanks to you .I am from Venezuela. I also have a channel. I am teaching some advices of the venezuelan valse Natalio From Antonio Lauro. Great video Hannah. This will be my first attempt of trying “tremolo”, and I think it’s well presented. Thanks for the work you’re doing; it’s certainly helping me personally.
Hannah, I was looking for a simple yet musical tremolo piece that presents a few challenges. With fret changes, barre work, and a great finish, your "Starshine" fills the bill. I hope you compose additional studies leading up to mastery of the technique. Thanks!

Le travail lent que vous proposez (60 bpm) m'a fait progresser en quelques jours plus que des années d'exercices basés sur la rapidité. Merci Hannah !
