These are probably my favorite videos because it is a peak into real homes, most likely brand new along with pieces gathered from college, travel, mom & dad leftovers, or Grandma's antiques, thrifting, etc. To me, the editing of art and accessories and seeing what people choose is sooo personal, and its the real punch to a great room. Both these homes had great art & accessories, and your suggestions at lowering or making pieces closer were what felt right! The records were bothering me, then you said, make it rows of 5....exactly, odd numbers, you named what I couldn't!

I have a bunch of friends who are very maximalist in their styles, I'm in that college/ mid twenties age so I feel like that's kinda common in my age group, and it's awesome to stare at as a guest but I can't handle visual chaos in my own space

Art on your walls. Use a gallery wall system (meaning wires you hang the paintings on, instead of using nails in the wall. I don’t know the English term but if you look up “painting hanging system” it should pop up.) It doesn’t get in the way. You don’t have to move it to clean. You can easily get rid of it if you want to change things up/ calm things down. For me, and my ADHD, it works.

    • @FakeSun96
      @FakeSun96 ปีที่แล้ว +5

My way of making a simple space more exciting is using color and lights. For example, an accent wall in a color you like adds warmth and personality without feeling cluttered and without adding more things you need to clean. Lights: different lamps at different heights, especially ones that you can dim. They add a ton of coziness and can have cool designs while still being functional. And you can dim them and/or switch them on/off based on your mood and energy levels.

    • @chandaharkins4418

I don't have ADHD, but I do gravitate towards a minimal home. Like you, I really appreciate the cozy look of these more eclectic homes, but I feel like if I try it, it won't look right without a bunch of STUFF. :)

The first home has beautiful bones. My two cents are that the seating is too matchy matchy. In the sun room, the couches are from the same set and in the living room the couch and the lounge chair are both black leather. They should mix it up.

3:34 Re: adding a tree or green to the right of the console. Usually tree style plants will succumb pretty quick if there isn't consistent or periodically intense lighting in dark corners.
One solution is to add a directional lamp with a strong LED bulb (or a grow bulb if you're ok with bluer light) to point at the tree to help it grow.
Another is to get a really big "low light" tolerant plant to put there for a while, then rotate it to the window to let them photosynthesize. Large snake plants, cast iron plants, or a staked pothos (to look like a tree) will look decent for a while in dark places.
Tip. Low light is just marketing jargon. Check if your plant is growing in the dark corner. If it isn't, make sure you're supplementing some lighting periodically because it's basically dying slowly.
Or a low maintenance solution is to invest in a really nice fake or dry plant...

I have recently started prop styling! And I know you’ve mentioned that you’re not sure what videos to make about prop styling- so I thought maybe a Q&A about it?????
    1. What is in your kit for every shoot.
    2. How do you book jobs, through a company? Or do you just have great personal relationships and book directly?
    3. Where do you store your props? Do you buy “new” (including vintage) for each shoot?
    4. Do you have a really definitive prop style? Or do you often have to pivot for different designers to better match their style?
    5. What is your best advice to a beginner in the industry?
    I hope I’ve inspired some ideas!! 🤩

These are fun Paige! I agree with all you suggested. I would congregate items on the credenza in the first home-not spread them out. In the second home I would pair down the amount of toy/toy box clutter along the floors. Kids play with about 20% of their toys. When my son was little (he is an adult now) we culled his toys every fall and spring. He was fully involved and it was never traumatic-it was always fun.💜

Love these homes!!! They’re cozy and have really great pieces. The thing about putting your bed under a window is that it can get SO HOT in the morning if you’re facing east. We used to have it under the window but would wake up sweating, which isn’t fun. Also, it can make the bed dirty with whatever gets in through the screen.

For example, I am trying to incorperate more bright colors intro my home in the form of blankets, pillows, art and just general details. I dont want the colors to make the rooms feel to ”cluttered”. This was a great vid. I love going into normal folks' homes...magazine-perfect design is often out of reach, so I like to see what people do with what they have. Loved both homes. The first one had a beautiful aesthetic; the second was cozy and lived-in and real. Loved the kitchen art.
I just bought a lovely 122-year old home in upstate NY and have nothing in it save for a large, round antique dining table I found on CL for $250. This home will be a from-scratch thing I'll curate over time. How I wish I could have you consult for me! I just love your ideas, taste, ability to edit, and appreciation for classic design. I want a cozy-but-cool home + great combo dining room/home office + killer attic studio for my 3 drum sets, guitars, basses, keyboards, amps and recording gear. It's a tall order that I have some ideas for, but get stuck when it comes to committing to things and a style. Too bad you don't do "send in your vids of your empty new home" critiques. Lol
Keep up the great work! And if you're in Chelsea, for god's sake, go to Le Zie. Your soul will be rescued.

Hey Paige! I had a thought on a video idea: what if you talked about how to design difficult spaces. For example, I live in a basement apartment that only has windows on one wall, and it’s pretty much a studio apartment. My husband and I have found a way to make it work and we love our little home, but it would be fun to hear your ideas on how to design tricky spaces like ours

Of course I love your design ideas for regular people who still want a put-together home, but I’m sad that The Goo has passed…how wonderful that you got to spend time with her before she went. It would have been much worse to have been away on a fourth month without seeing her. Remember the snuggles that made you smile - and you will smile every time. Hugs from Canada. 💖

The kitchen table in the Geneva house looked like a beautiful midcentury table. If she swapped it with the round one, she wouldn't have to protect/cover it; we could actually see how pretty it is in the living room.

Thank you for saying that about the ottoman! I get that maybe they’re not the most appealing but they’re safer for our maniac kids and I feel like everyone is shitting on them these days in favor of a coffee table that can be styled 🤪. I’m trying to avoid having to get my kids stitched up so I’m holding on to my leather ottoman for a bit longer 🫣

Since you are in NYC, you should review David Harbour’s Loft in Brooklyn, AD tour. Gramercy design is the firm that designed the space

Yes on the tv! Most people hang their tvs too high. Perfect height for that room would pretty much being the tv sitting on top of the console.
