I believe they also included the theme from "Feed the Birds" for a few seconds when Dawes Jr. is telling the story of the Tuppence at the bank. It's not in the soundtrack, but I picked up on it in the theatre.
@@watagashi_mitai AND when I saw it again in theaters, I heard "Life I Lead" in one of the last Mary Poppins/Michael scenes which I didn't pick up the first time I saw it. I was so happy they did that.
'The Life I Lead' is musically referenced when Cherry Tree Lane is revealed during Under the Lovely London Sky as well as when the Banks family have packed up their things and are leaving the house. Fidelity Fiduciary Bank is also constantly referenced anytime the bank appears on screen as underscore.
*_I like how Disney brings back the hand-drawn animation for the movie despite all of those crappy CGI animations (not all) exist in this generation. I'm glad the executives (AKA a bunch of cash-grabbing a-holes) let the director to give the animation a chance to shine through the stars._*
there is quite a lot of CGI animation in Mary Poppins returns but it is done so well you don't notice it at all! F.I. the flowers spiraling of the ceramic bowl in the royal dalton sequence, the grid for that was CGI but hand finished afterward like in the clock sequence of 1986 the great mouse detective
My mom prefered the original one, while I actually loved both of them. Even my 10 year old brother said he was bored to death saying it felt like it was on for 7 hours. While my mom found it boring she fell asleep half the time. Me I was glued to the screen. I loved it
That’s sad to hear! While I don’t think it will ever live up to the original (and it was never going to), it’s still an amazing film! I loved every moment!!
Great research . You vidéo is pratically perfect in every way!! Because Mary Poppins Uncle in the first movie is called Albert not Arthur!! Oh!! and Emily said Spit spots...Thank you!
anyone who's seen the Disney channel show "So Random" and you know the skit with the male model Angus and how his voice sounds like...this guys voice reminds me so much of that!
The story of the King of the Castle and the Dirty Rascal in the A Cover Is Not The Book number is also a chapter in Mary Poppins Comes Back, as "Robertson Ay's Story."
When I saw the trailer I didn't feel very interested in the movie but after seeing your video. The movie looks like an excellent continuation and I really want to see it now :D. Thanks for making this excellent and comprehenisve video!
When Anabel notices Mary's scarf wrapped around the carriage axle, it's a reference to the chapter Bad Wednesday, from Mary Poppins Comes Back. In it, Jane, in a fit of anger, throws her paint box at Michael, misses, and cracks the Royal Doulton bowl on the mantlepiece. Later, Jane enters the bowl and has to be rescued by Mary, who drops her scarf as they leave. The scarf (with Mary's initials on it) is now part of the bowl's picture. This plot device is used several times in the books. Jane and Michael will ask themselves if they dreamed what they just experienced, but then will see that the scene is somehow changed thanks to Mary, so it really happened. Another example: Neleus, The Marble Boy, is a naked statue in the park. He comes to life for one afternoon, plays with Jane and Michael, then has to go back up on his plinth and become inanimate again. Then they notice that he's now wearing Mary's new overcoat (also turned to marble), which she gave to him.
Willowbee was in the book and Mary Poppins can talk to animals. There’s a chapter in which the two younger children (John and Barbara) speak perfectly fine English to the clouds and sunlight. But then realize that upon their first birthdays, they will forget everything that has happened.
Great video, Mary Poppins Returns is an awesome masterpiece! P.S; Will you do some Disney what ifs? Those would be cool. For example, could you do a “What If Michael Gave The Tuppence To The Bird Woman” vid?
one movie reference is missing but that's because it is rather slight there is a reference to chitty chitty bang bang in there when the lantern lighters are dancing with their lighter sticks it is clearly a nod to the musical number me old bamboo from chitty chitty bang bang the movements with the lighter sticks are pretty much the same as dick van dyke's moves with the bamboo stick although not a Disney movie CCBB was scored by the Sherman brothers the same composers that scored Mary Poppins
A bit of an adult theme at 14:03. I'm curious as to why this particular musical dance number had several references to the film Cabaret (starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey). Any thoughts?
Set in Depression England..I thought no one else realized..(then CHICAGO, directed for the screen by MPR's Rob Marshall has from the original songs by CABARET'S Kandor and Ebb.,.Yikes!(
10:46 “Jane exclaims “you came back!” Which is an obvious reference to the title of the novel” . Umm no, she says “you came back” because she came back. I’m pretty sure no reference was intended here. You were reaching for that one
Out of literally every possible thing she could have said (“you’re back” “you’re here” “you’ve returned” “what are you doing here?” “I can’t believe you’re here” etc etc), they chose “you came back”. The movie is, in part, based on the second novel. I can guarantee you it was done on purpose.

I had goosebumps in that very moment.. I guess that was why

@@DaveLeeDownUnder True that there is only one Mary Poppins and that's Julie Andrews.
She is a screen legend
You know, you kinda look like Lin Manuel Miranda in this film. All you need is the fire lighter suit and the bad cockney accent 😅
This is a fantastic movie
Thank you, great video!

Bought the movie in June 2020 and watch it every summer. I noticed and heard alot of great references to the original film and novels.

The heel click jack does is similar to the one Bert does in the original film
Wow amazing job

Mary Poppins had a conversation with Andrew...the dog in reference to uncle Arther....in the original movie
The a cover is not the book sequence is like the 10th chapter in Mary poppins titled full moon.because of all the animals and the snake

also, Merl Streep seems to channel a young Angela Lansbury in the topsy turfy scene and, Angela herself is in the end part of the movie

Does the video talk about Karen Dotrice, who played Jane in the original?
Yes.

@@DaveLeeDownUnder I'm sure it was.
in the description he spells Ben Whishaw's last name wrong.
Early in the film there is a man wearing a boler hat reading a paper on a park bench that looks very much like David Tomlinson
Unfortunately the actor passed away almost 20 yrs before the second film however he had 4 sons!
Mary poppins actually brought the snow globe with her which is weird
