    I wear exactly that watch in a railway signal box - and I often need to be able to glance at my watch for maybe half a second and know the time. The readability of the Railmaster is superb; as good as any other watch and better than 95 % of all watches. I haven't yet had a problem reading the time at a glance, so I really don't understand your concerns about readability, certainly in a real-world situation. It's an excellent design. So for my job, signalling trains in a signal box which has equipment from the early to mid 1900s - it's pretty near perfect 🙂

    One other note which I forgot to mention in the video: The Seamaster Professional 300 is actually cheaper than this guy, at $4400. Given, they're very different watches, but still, Omega, what the heck?

    • @markalexander774
      @markalexander774 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mechanical > Quartz. The difference between an Omega Quartz movement and a cheap, Chinese made Quartz movement is not all that much in terms of what it is. Whereas Omega mechanical movements are a lot more special in terms of craftsmanship and design than a cheap Seagull or Miyota movement.

    • @tomjsmith000
      @tomjsmith000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both watches are mechanical.

    • @markalexander774
      @markalexander774 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are not. Look at 0:55 when he pulls the Seamaster Professional 300 out: The seconds hand does not move that slow on any mechanical watch, that is a quartz watch tick. The Planet Ocean that he has is mechanical, but that is not what he mentioned in the comment and nor is it cheaper than the Railmaster.

    • @tomjsmith000
      @tomjsmith000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      markalexander774 the railmaster literally says co-axial on the dial. That’s an automatic movement.

    • @markalexander774
      @markalexander774 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      At no point in any comment that I have ever written did I say nor imply that the Railmaster was Quartz, if you had bothered to actually read my comments you would have clearly seen that I was referring to the Seamaster Professional as the Quartz one. I don't even know why I'm writing this because you clearly will either not read this and/or won't understand it given your limited mental capacity.

    I share your peeve about quick adjust clasps. They can add a bit of cost and bulk, but are so worth it to most folks that have experienced one. It's particularly puzzling when manufacturers have it on a few models but not many models in a given price range. As good as some Omega bracelets are without a quick adjust, they would be that much better with one.

    Dude love the puns at the end of the review. The first one got me chuckled and the next one got me burst out laughing. I agreed with most of what you said however the major factor when purchasing high-end luxury items (be it watch, clothes or bags) it comes to a matter of heart, not head. The head is screaming “GET A FREAKING GRIP!!! PAINTED DIALS, NO DATE!!!!!! YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!!!” But the heart says “however, its a nifty looking watch... looks great on your wrist...... get it.... get it..... get it..... you know you want it..... get it....”

    It's amazing that people fail to realise why this watch has a flat dial, In the review it stated no applied indesies for the money you will find that applied indesies would ruin the aesthetics of the watch and feel that omega is trying to produce plus it's link to the previous models of years gone buy.

      I agree with the better movement but come on, it's 2018 and the "new" movement still beats at 25,500. I personally think the new Basel models are as ugly as sin. I much prefer either the ceramic or old school Brosnan. But hey, buy what you like, wear it in good health and enjoy the heck out of it.

      I understand that the factory accuracy rating is calculated by periods of time in 5 or 6 positions and averaged, and that one user of a watch can experience a fairly significant deviation from the testing or even another user. But even the type of observation you just provide is quite useful to gauge how close to the spec might be likely in a given unit. I've purchased luxury watches that were definitely not in spec and it's always interesting to see the experiences of others.

    This watch is not thick lol ... anything under 13mm these days is drooled over. The Railmaster is definitely on my short list of contenders for my next watch, looking to get an Omega back into the watch box. I still have to check one out in the flesh though to be convinced. I really liked the broad arrow hands on my previous Railmaster (ref 2503), still getting used to the baton hands on this one.
    I'm really like how Omega fully brushed this one, too much polish this day in age in watches. This is a watch for a true watch enthusiast who doesn't care if others notice it.

    Great review! Just bought this beauty for 3600 Dollar, brand new, from a France AD. I was looking for a discreet but very good watch - as an alternative to my Explorer 1 or 2 or IWC Pilot... if you like the design (flat, retro-inspired dial), it's a super cool watch. Unobtrusive and robust, with excellent technology. It's a shame that the model has been taken out of the Omega portfolio...we'll see what comes next, but it's unlikely to get any better, in my opinion ;-)

The brushed dial doesn’t do anything for me and the colour of the stainless steel is very dull looking. As good as it is quality wise I find it unexciting style wise. I disagree that it is overpriced vs. a Rolex. This watch is more magnetic resistant than a Milgauss, META certified, greater depth rating, and yet with discount available at any Omega AD, it is easily 2K less than an Explorer, and 4K less than a Milgauss. Regarding lack of indices and lack of date- that is by design to be more of a tool watch and more vintage inspired. Clearly this watch is for those who want a simple and reliable tool watch without a lot of flash. If you want polished indices and flash, get an Aqua Terra, or a a modern Explorer or Milgauss. If you want a movement that has not met as stringent of standards as a Master Chronometer or Superlative Chronometer, then pay a little bit less and get a Tudor. Omega's pricing fits nicely between the two, and makes sense. Now if you want to argue that all luxury watches are overpriced, then I won't debate you on that, but Omega and specifically this Railmaster is not overpriced compared to the rest of the market.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but look at loss of value. Buy a Rolex explorer, you'll lose a grand max. Buy one of these retail, and poof.

    • @patrickmacleod2415
      @patrickmacleod2415 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's always the argument for Rolex, "But what about resale?" You could say this about any luxury watch that isn't Rolex then. I could understand if the prices were close, but as I mentioned, this Omega is 2 to 4K less than comparative Rolexes, even if you paid full retail for the Omega. As you mentioned in your review, buyers should ask their ADs for a discount. Omega ADs tend to give decent discounts. I have already know two people who sold this very watch and they each lost less than 1K (after buying at discount). But my point was not about resale value, but comparative value in the market place. Omega in general, and this watch specifically, is significantly less expensive than comparative Rolex watches, so it really doesn't make sense to cite the cost compared to Rolex as a negative. And I'm talking about "comparative" watches were Omega actually has the technical advantage- better water resistance, better magnetic resistance, more stringent METAS chronometer testing. By the way, my Railmaster is +1 second after two weeks.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, it's a relative value. But it's still relatively overpriced. I feel like what they're delivering shouldn't be as expensive as it is :)

      The same can be said and worse about the Pelagos with bigger losses and much cheaper build quality. I understand if you buy watches for value retention but the price of entry negates the argument. Spending double to gain value retention then everyone would drive Lexus SUV instead of Range Rover. Sometimes a watch that flies under the radar is a good thing.

    I get that these reviews can't only have the positives. However to compare this against a Rolex Explorer 1 is a reach. Try getting the explorer at retail. This is a larger watch secondly and with arguably a slightly better movement. There are many great butterfly clasps without fine adjustment look at the Nautilus. When did quick adjust become the standard for a watch costing 5k? IMO some watches just look more proportionate without a date and this is one of them especially as a tool watch. It's hard to argue with all the positives here and the pre owned deals on this are great as well. At 12.7mm thin that's slimmer than the new speedy.

    One is paying a very high price for the co-axial technology...great invetion but should be less expensive now as it has been arround for a while. Now, I love Omegas but the Planet Ocean or any of the Seamasters look way much better as high end watches......this watch honestly is stuck in the middle....it is definitively not targeting the jewlery market but has an extremely high price....it looks cheap and brushed watches are way much difficult to restore to its original looks when scratches appear as jewlers need to use the exact brush to restore damage othewise patched brushed sections are noticeable....anyway, very good review!

      It's not difficult for restore brushing at all for anyone who knows that they are doing. It's not just coaxial that you are paying for, but completely anti-magnetic and META certification for accuracy and durability. Mine is +1 seconds after two weeks and it is more magnetic resistant than a Milgaus.

    From what I've read, Omega doesn't claim anymore longer servicing intervals with the coaxial, and others say that it doesn't matter as far as increased accuracy is concerned. No tangible advantage. So people talk of Omega's innovation in incorporating the movement. Why would I want a coaxia, then? It's a gimmick, no?

      It was a hook and bait in the beginning to make people buy their watch. Now they want to make money off regular service.
